Medicine Hat News There was a new winner in Medicine Hat’s Ladies Bonspiel, though the defending champs made it close. Deb Lutz’s team including Vicki Sjolie, Deb Hubich and Norma Lippert held on for a win Sunday at the Medicine Hat Curling Club over Holly Stroh’s squad. Facing a Lutz stone and without the hammer in the eighth end, Stroh missed a runback hit on her last throw. Lutz didn’t need to throw her final rock to win. That capped a stellar weekend for Lutz and company in the 70th annual bonspiel, which had a typical lighthearted theme encouraging players to dress up. This year it was the ’70s. Suzette Parahoniak and Bev Garlock’s rinks finished third in the A event. In the B event it was the team skipped by Celine Linfoot (including Lorraine Hilgendorf, Ylonda Jordheim and Faye Nunweiler) winning over the Gaylene Senft side from Maple Creek. Laura Deschamps and Wanda Fishcher’s teams were third. Tammy Foster’s side (including Shannon Norman, Launie Hagel and Judy Hill) beat out Sheila Rumberg’s in the C event final. Erin Romaniuk and Andrea Wilson’s teams were third. The Oilmen’s Bonspiel is the last in the Medicine Hat club for the season, starting Friday and winding up Sunday. 10
