Medicine Hat News Medicine Hat is hosting a pair of under-18 boys indoor soccer provincial championships this weekend, and both host teams got off to a great start Friday. At the Family Leisure Centre, both the Tier 2 and Tier 3 Rattlers Academy Soccer Club squads opened with wins over Calgary sides. First, the Tier 3 Rattlers beat Deerfoot United’s Juventus 3-2 thanks to goals from Atomsa Ahmed, Noah Dolter and Tyler Wlad plus some fantastic goalkeeping from Trey Lukye. Lukye’s best save came in the second half, deflecting a shot high and then diving backwards to somehow keep it from falling in. Navdeep Brar and Brayden Karmin replied for Juventus. On the adjacent field the Tier 2 Rattlers had four goals in the final 10 minutes to turn a close game into a 7-1 rout of Calgary Northeast’s Venom. Both tournaments include eight teams split into two pools. The finals are set for 11:15 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. Sunday. 8
