Medicine Hat News The season came to a bitter end for the Medicine Hat College Rattlers soccer teams on Friday at the Alberta Colleges Athletics Conference championships — but they made sure to go down swinging in a pair of one-goal games. The women’s squad came up just short of a comeback in a 2-1 loss to the Concordia Thunder in Olds, while the men’s team fell 3-2 to the host NAIT Ooks up north. Meagan Clarke scored the lone goal for Medicine Hat in Olds, cutting into a 2-0 deficit in the 81st minute to force the Thunder back onto their heels — but the Rattlers were unable to find an equalizer. Concordia’s Rebecca Leavall scored both of her team’s goals, in the 17th and 68th minutes. The Thunder will move on to face the NAIT Ooks in Saturday’s semifinal. The Grande Prairie Wolves advanced to take on the SAIT Trojans in the other semifinal after defeating the host Olds Broncos, 3-0 Friday. While Medicine Hat’s men’s squad was able to rebound from an early 2-0 deficit to NAIT, Armando Garcia stole away the game with the eventual winner in the 80th minute to end Medicine Hat’s season early. Rodrigo Tavares and Mark Elson both scored to erase NAIT’s early lead — set on a pair of goals from Ali Musse. 9
