Every great idea begins with a spark of inspiration.
A flash of a story you can’t stop thinking about, or a conversation that deserves a wider audience. Turning that spark into something real, however, takes more than creativity. It takes planning, guidance, community, and yes, sometimes funding.
Fortunately, STORYHIVE has your back.
TELUS STORYHIVE has announced the return of its Video Podcast program. Now in its third year, the program invites new and emerging creators across Alberta and B.C. to bring their stories to life on screen and online. No experience is required to apply. What you need to know
The Video Podcast program offers $10,000 in production funding, alongside customized online training and a community of support for creators to produce a locally reflective eight-episode video podcast series on a subject of their choosing. Selected participants will also gain access to an engaged community of fellow creators, support from a dedicated program manager, and expert guidance from Jar Podcast Solutions.
And perhaps the most exciting part? Creators retain 100% ownership of their projects. That means the podcast you create through STORYHIVE remains entirely yours, to share, grow and monetize however you choose.
From idea to impact For Alberta creator Dalton Ehry, the program was a turning point.
His first STORYHIVE project, Adapting, explored life in the disability community in Medicine Hat. Through candid, heartfelt interviews with eight families and local advocates, Ehry was able to explore how disabilities have impacted their lives, and the ways they subvert expectations and barriers.

“The support from the team, and the training sessions to kick off the STORYHIVE journey were extremely helpful to me as a first-time creator,” says Ehry. “The peer connection through Slack was also helpful to connect with the other participants in my community.”
Whether you’re picking up a mic for the first time or looking to gain the support and tools to take your podcast to the next level, the nine-month-long program could be just what you need to transform your idea into something real. That creative kickstart helped Ehry bring his first project to life. Now his second project, Crafted in the Hat will celebrate the local food and beverage scene in Medicine Hat, and the people behind it.

Whether you live in a major city or a small town, the program believes that every community has stories worth telling, and that anyone with curiosity and passion can learn to tell them.
“Through our innovative programs, we’re committed to supporting underrepresented voices across B.C. and Alberta,” says Shaun Cathcart, Southern Alberta territory manager. “We’re eager to see the creative projects that will emerge from this program, especially from new and emerging video podcasters.”

If you’ve ever dreamed of starting a video podcast but weren’t sure where to begin, this might be your moment. As Ehry puts it: “If you believe in your project, shoot your shot. The application is super easy, and it helps you get the framework of your idea on paper and start creating.”
