1. Outside of pipelines, what is the biggest challenge facing Alberta?
I think the looming infrastructure upgrades that are required by rural Alberta will be a significant challenge for the next legislature. With the MSI program coming to an end in 2021, where will municipalities find the fund to continue the necessary improvements to rural roads and bridges? Almost everything related to a healthy economy runs on the roads of rural Alberta. This transportation system is often the first link for Alberta’s resources to a global supply chain.
2 How do your party’s policies bring jobs to Southeastern Alberta?
The Alberta Party is the only party in opposition to post an annual shadow budget. In our budget, we propose an injection of 100million dollars into the business community geared specifically to job creation. The funds will be made available through the ATB and AIMCo to be used as venture capital and start-up funds. We believe the funds are best distributed through these two companies because they have between them, a wealth of knowledge and insight that will help small business thrive.
3. What improvements can be made to the Alberta health care system?
Two things need to happen as a preliminary to all future improvements: Government needs to conduct a genuine review to ensure that duplication and redundancies between AHS and Alberta health are eliminated. Secondly, hear what front-line health care workers have to tell us about changes, innovative or otherwise that will enhance service delivery and improve patient outcomes. If anyone knows, they do!
4. Why should youth be optimistic about the future of Alberta?
As long as our society remains free, Alberta youth have plenty to be optimistic about. They are the future!
