DEBI AKERS

DEBI AKERS July 30, 1950 – November 30, 2025
Deborah Rose Marie (Hall) Akers, was born on July 30, 1950, in Medicine Hat, Alberta and passed away peacefully on November 30, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was the cherished daughter of Rose Hall (2009) and Arnold Hall (1999), who raised her with love, strength, and the values she carried throughout her life.
Debi spent her earliest years living with her mother at her grandparents’ home in Medicine Hat while her father served in the Navy. Surrounded by close family and the comfort of her grandparents’ care, she grew up with a strong sense of love, belonging, and resilience. She later lived in Edmonton for several years before returning to the community where she grew up. Debi attended St. Mary’s School and completed her education in Prelate, Saskatchewan.
Following high school, Debi returned to Edmonton to pursue her lifelong calling of caring for others. She earned her LPN nursing designation and began her career at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, where her compassion, steadiness, and gentle nature quickly became evident. She later moved to Red Deer for a time before returning to Medicine Hat, where she continued her nursing career with unwavering dedication. Debi worked at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on 4 West for 23 years, retiring in 2008. She was known for her professionalism, kindness, and the quiet yet profound impact she had on patients and colleagues alike.
In 1983, Debi married Rob Akers, beginning a devoted and loving partnership that lasted the rest of her life. Upon retiring, Debi and Rob moved to their cherished acreage in Elkwater, lovingly named “Someday,” where they embraced peaceful days surrounded by nature. Debi especially loved camping with Rob, enjoying long drives, quiet mornings, and evenings by the campfire. She also treasured her cruise to Alaska and a memorable European river cruise, both of which she spoke of fondly.
From 2015 to 2024, Debi and Rob spent their winters traveling south, escaping the cold and enjoying sunshine, new friendships, and the freedom of the open road.
Debi was the eldest of four children and embraced her role with love and responsibility. She is survived by her sister, Nancy Dent; brother, Daniel Hall and was predeceased by a brother, Samuel Hall in 1989.
Debi is lovingly remembered by her devoted husband, Rob; sons, Sheldon (Victoria) and Trenton Akers and her “favourite” son, Kyle Anderson, who were constant sources of pride and joy in her life. She was also blessed with three treasured grandchildren, Alizibeth, Asher and Abigail whose laughter, milestones and visits brought her immeasurable happiness.
Debi will be remembered for her warmth, kindness and the gentle grace she carried throughout every moment of her life. Her legacy of compassion, resilience and love lives on in all who had the privilege of knowing her.
The family would sincerely like to thank her close friends, Deb W, Jan O and Judy R for being there for everything Debi needed. They would also like to say thank you to the nursing staff and the doctors of 5 west for their wonderful care.

Ernie was born to J.D. and Sara Nickel on July 9, 1927, in Beaverlodge, Alberta. He loved hunting and trapping to help support his family’s homestead. As a teenager he moved with his family to Rosemary, Alberta, and in 1948, he married Irma Janzen. Soon after, they moved to Calgary to raise and expand their growing family. Ernie began his career in the construction trade and later when they moved to Medicine Hat he continued to work in construction. He was hopeful that he would not need to move rooms within the care facility again. Ernie is now home, fully in the arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. His traveling days are done.
