THOMAS KOWALSKI
THOMAS KOWALSKI 1947 ~ 2025 Thomas (Tony) Kowalski of Medicine Hat, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 27, 2025, at the age of 78 years. Tony was born in Heerlen, Netherlands on March 22, 1947, to Leo and Maria Kowalski. He moved to Canada on March 25, 1957, and became a Canadian Citizen. After completing high school, he lived in Calgary, Alberta before eventually moving to Medicine Hat. Tony worked for the Department of National Defence in the supply department at CFB Suffield, until he retired. After his retirement, Tony spent his days golfing at Paradise Valley Golf Course and hoping that the Toronto Maple Leaf’s would eventually win a Stanley Cup. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and loved to watch them in their activities (sports). Tony is survived by his two sons, Mike Kowalski and Steve (Dana) Kowalski; his four grandchildren, Megan, Ava, Kapri and Kane; one brother, Hans (Patti) Kowalski; one nephew, Neil (Britt) Kowalski and their children, Rove and Burke, and his niece, Sarah Kowalski. He was predeceased by his parents, Leo and Marie Kowalski. A private interment will take place at a later date. ERNA OHMANN (FORMERLY HILGENDORF) March 11, 1930 ~ November 26, 2025 Erna Ohmann (formerly Hilgendorf) of Medicine Hat, beloved wife of the late Kurt Ohmann, passed away on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at the age of 95 years. She leaves to cherish her memory three children, Rita (Doug) McArthur, Hardy Hilgendorf and Frank (Lorraine) Hilgendorf; one step daughter-in-law, Wally (Manfred) Gutzmann; seven grandchildren, Jennifer McArthur, Jill (Colin) Gayford, Nathan (Trina) Hilgendorf, Christopher (Ivanna) Hilgendorf, Andrew (Megan) Hilgendorf, Brandon (Leanne) Hilgendorf and Danielle (Ian) Haberlack; two step grandchildren, Christopher (Mel) Ohmann and Shawn (Jodie) Ohmann; numerous great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, especially Evelyn, Karin and Petra from Germany. Erna was predeceased by her parents, Immanuel and Olga Schottle; her husband, Kurt Ohmann; one step son, Horst Ohmann; two daughters-in-law, Jodi Hilgendorf and Carol Hilgendorf; one brother and two sisters in Germany. Erna immigrated from Germany with Kurt in 1954, to start a new life. Their first stop was a farm near Irvine before settling in Medicine Hat. Over the years, she ran European Imports and Folklore Hobbies and Crafts. In her retirement years she enjoyed tending to her flowers and plants, as well as puzzling, reading and playing cards. When she had any aches and pains Erna would say “it will be better tomorrow”. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Scholtz and the staff of 4 West, at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital, as well as to Marcia and all the staff at Chinook Village, who were Erna’s second FAMILY and her home for many years. The Funeral Service will be held in the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME & CELEBRATION OF LIFE CENTREon Thursday, December 4, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Heather Carlson and Rev. Dr. Nancy Cocks officiating. MARJORIE DIRK
MARJORIE DIRK 1940 ~ 2025 Marjorie Margaret Dirk of Medicine Hat, beloved wife of the late Joseph Dirk, passed away on Friday, November 28, 2025, at the age of 85 years. She leaves to cherish her memory three sons, Miles Dirk, Tracy (Janice) Dirk and Dean Dirk; six grandchildren, Christina (Dave) Dekreek, Ashlee Poppe, Justin (Krystin) Dirk, Quentin Dirk, Brady Dirk and Landon Deelstra; five great grandchildren, Aislynn, Haylee, Kallie, Jack and Nate; one sister, Tillie McBride; two brothers, George Weinberger and Gordon (Gale) Weinberger; one sister-in-law, Diane (Murray) McCartney and numerous nieces and nephews. Marjorie was predeceased by her beloved husband of 58 years, Joseph Dirk in 2018, her parents, Lee and Barbara Weinberger, her step-mother, Florence Weinberger, her sister, Clara Sehn and two brothers-in-law, Lucas Sehn and Jim McBride. Marjorie was a very dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, who always put others before herself. She had a deep appreciation of family and will be remembered for her gifts of hospitality to others. Her legacy is one of love and kindness and she will be profoundly missed but will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends forever.
