She is also survived by her sister, Debby (Allan) Marriott and numerous nieces and nephews. Jan was predeceased by her beloved husband, Peter Hintz; her parents, Lily and Harvey Grandbois; and brother, Duane Grandbois. Jan was born on a small farm in Torquay, Saskatchewan, though she was still an infant when her family relocated to Weyburn, the community that shaped her upbringing. She married Peter in May of 1959, and together they raised their family before relocating to Medicine Hat in 1970. Jan dedicated herself to public service, working at Canada Employment Centre from 1973 to 1997. Upon retirement, she was honoured with a certificate of gratitude from the Canadian Prime Minister. She later continued her passion for helping others as an instructor at Medicine Hat College for the New Worlds for Women program. A devout Catholic, Jan was a proud member of the Catholic Women’s League for over 65 years. Her leadership was felt deeply as she served as President of both the Christ the King and St. Pat’s CWL Councils. She also gave generously of her time as a Eucharistic minister and reader and remained actively engaged in the Diocesan and St. Vincent de Paul committees, reflecting her lifelong commitment to faith and service. Jan had a lifelong passion for creativity and connection. She found joy in crafting, knitting, quilting, and lively games of cards, always bringing warmth and laughter to those around her. Her love of travel carried her across North America and Europe, where she embraced new experiences and delighted in forming lasting friendships. She lived by the values she held dear kindness, integrity, and the quiet strength of showing up. Whether for family, community, or those in need, Jan’s presence was steady and sincere. Her thoughtful nature touched countless lives, and her legacy endures in the values she passed on and the cherished memories she created. Jan is deeply loved and will be dearly missed. Her warmth, resilience, and unwavering faith left an indelible mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
