ROBERT VAN WERT
ROBERT VAN WERT January 29th, 1943 September 19th, 2025
Van Wert, Robert (Bob) passed away peacefully at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on September 19th, 2025, at the age of 82. He will be remembered as a loving dad, grandpa and great grandpa. He is survived by his children, Dave (Sandra) Van Wert, Pam (Jamie) Grant and Ross Van Wert. Also fondly remembered by his 5 grandchildren, especially Shelby and Chelsey and 10 great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Georgina in 2013.
Dad would check the obituaries every morning to make sure he wasn’t listed but now would be happy to know his family finally got him in the paper.
Life wasn’t easy for Dad after Mom passed with his various health concerns. It was during these years that he became very close with Pam and Ross and relied on them greatly. He enjoyed our many visits with him at his home in the Wellington and was often heard telling everyone how great his kids are. We felt needed and loved and knew he was proud of us. He was always happiest being surrounded by his family at dinners and functions. There was always a discussion about how many desserts were reasonable to have at one dinner, he insisted on two minimum.
He also enjoyed listening to a good band, loved planting flowers and bird watching from his window.
He loved the many years he spent at Elkwater and the daily road trips out there when his health declined to the point where overnight stays became impossible. Both Mom and Dad loved it there.
We will remember his laughter, his ability to make up scary stories and the special gleam in his eye when he thought he was getting one over on us.
Special thanks to the staff at the Wellington for taking such good care of Dad. We appreciated the care and compassion immensely. He thoroughly enjoyed his life there. Thank you also to the staff on 2 North for the special care over the last few months and the many trips you made for Dad to Tim’s for chili. They went above and beyond.
Dad, you gave us some good stories to tell over the past few years, you were such a big part of our lives.
You will be missed.
