LYLE HILLIS

1936 LYLE HILLIS – 2025
Lyle Arthur Hillis, February 17, 1936 July 31, 2025, was the second child of seven, born to Arthur and Maisie Hillis. He grew up on a farm in Carlea and enjoyed a fulfilling career with SaskPower, serving his last years in management. It was in his early years, working on a crew that brought power to many locations in Saskatchewan, that he met his future wife, Joyce. They married on April 2, 1955, and raised five children. Lyle’s job enabled he and Joyce to make many new friends and experience different communities while living in Aneroid, Gull Lake, Moosejaw and Prince Albert.
Despite his busy work and family life, Lyle went back to school and earned his grade 12 diploma. Lyle would never refer to himself as an intellectual, but he was an avid reader, and often (out of necessity) taught himself many new things, such as home renovations, building a garage, renovating a school bus into a motor home, playing the guitar and banjo (not always well), lathing and wood carving. Knowing Joyce’s fear of snakes, he even built a fold-up camping trailer so they could go camping (because tenting was out of the question).
Lyle and Joyce spent many happy times in northern Saskatchewan with friends and family, enjoying fishing and fireside sing-alongs. As well, they loved spending many winter months in Texas, where they enjoyed golf, cards, shuffle, and many social gatherings with friends.
Lyle was the kind of man who was helpful, thoughtful, and gave generously of his time if he could be useful. He shared his knowledge with his children, including whittling, fishing, hunting, renovations, and vehicle maintenance. Throughout his life, Lyle was community-minded – a member of the Elks club, a senior volunteer (even though he was one himself), and with the United Church in his early years. One of the things Lyle inadvertently passed onto his children was trying new things. This was evident in Lyle’s willingness to learn to use and enjoy computer technology in his later years.
After Joyce’s passing in 2022, Lyle continued to live independently right up until his passing, while enjoying his hobbies of golf and carving. He always looked forward to his visits with his family and friends, whether it was in person or virtually. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren would always say that he gave the best hugs and that he was a source of comfort, which certainly speaks to his love of family.
Lyle is lovingly remembered by his children, Doug (Karen Chad; children, Kit (Julene), Katie and Mitch (Emily)), Shelley Tien (Joe; children, Amanda Finke (Craig) and Carrie Anne Tien-Sander (Simon Sander), Brian (Kate Tseng) and Karen Steed (Colin; children, Finn and Lilly), great grandchildren Daizee, Brianna, Joseph, Brennan, Averie, and Bowyn.
Also surviving him is his brother Dale (Jeanette), brothers-in-law, Jimmy Morgan (Kathy) and Delmar Morgan (Sheryl), numerous nephews and nieces, and many good friends.Lyle was predeceased by his wife, Joyce and his son, Rick (surviving children Cullen and Cassidy).Respecting Lyle’s wishes, there will be no memorial service. However, knowing Lyle, we are sure he would like everyone to spend a moment giving thanks to the wonderful family and friends we have in our lives. Lyle will be interred with his wife, Joyce and son, Rick at Saltcoats Cemetery. Condolences may be sent through http://www.saamis.com or to condolences@saamis.com subject heading Lyle Hillis. ROBERT “BOB” KUHL

ROBERT “BOB” KUHL 1937 ~ 2025 It is with deep love and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Bob (Robert) Kuhl, who left us on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at the age of 87 years. A loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. If something was broken, we took it to him, it almost always came back fixed, sometimes with spare parts and usually a few colourful phrases delivered as the operation progressed. He was a big saver and recycler way before it became the thing to do, he could have started the crumbled tire playground business without help.
A proud member of the Foremost Elks Club and later the Sage Club, he was involved in many community fundraisers and renovations. He was on the Foremost town council for a few years but never really took to the politics of it all. Bob loved playing golf almost daily in the summer with friends on the Foremost golf course.
Bob was a self-taught carpenter who kept busy renovating and building houses in his earlier years and later made things that we found pictures of and decided he could build. He found a new hobby after he moved from Foremost to Medicine Hat and became a very accomplished self taught Intarsia woodworker. You are a very lucky person if he gave you one of his pieces.
A farmer through and through, he was very proud to receive the one-hundred-year certificate for the family farm, south of Etzikom, it is where his legacy will forever live on.
He had a great love for speed, be it in the family car, the old farm Subaru or the combine. A favourite family memory is of him yelling at whomever was driving the grain truck and later the grain cart, “Go Faster – Ya Gotta Keep Up!”
He is survived by his wife of sixty-eight years Myrna, daughter Debra, granddaughter Daryl (Nathan), great grandchildren Jagger and Harlow, grandson Spencer. His special canine buddies, Gilbert, Saddie and Doug.
He was predeceased by his parents Herb and Helen Kuhl and his son Darrel.
In place of a formal service, we invite you to crack open a Kokanee or Pilsner, share a memory and raise a glass in his honour. Cremation has been entrusted to the Pattison Funeral Home and Crematorium. To leave a message of condolence you may visit http://www.pattisonfuneralhome.com.
