PIERCEN MEIER

2003 ~ PIERCEN MEIER ~ 2025
He was just so gifted. When Piercen entered a room, he ENTERED a room with a stride so graceful and swag that radiated confidence. But that wide smile and bright blue eyes would welcome you into his energy. He was a lifelong learner, picking up random skills as he committed to mastering several things simultaneously. He often self-taught himself to an advanced level before abandoning it to start a new skill. He was unapologetically himself with the strength of a lion but the heart of a good friend. Wherever he went, Piercen would make friends. His energy and kindness would attract all walks of life. He wasn’t aggressive despite the chiseled chest and defined biceps. Piercen was the most amazingly positive soul with a quick wit and wickedly divine sense of humour. His creativity could be overlooked, but only because his ideas were often overlapped by comedy. A family Christmas calendar donning his abs for each month is clear evidence of that. Always polite and helpful, he’d clear dishes after Thanksgiving Dinners, rarely needing to be asked. He always said “I love you” before leaving and took a tremendous amount of accountability for his decisions. It saddens us that he struggled so much in life. He was absolute magic, and we’ll miss him dearly.

Until recently, we remembered Piercen as the loud and aggressive little brother to Kaden. That was until some old tapes were converted into digital files and we were reminded that Piercen was a soft, gentle young boy being pushed over while Kaden would shreak. “Look at me. Look at me!” We don’t know a life other than “Kaden and Piercen.”

Even at a young age (says every obituary), Piercen enjoyed making people laugh either by being the centre of attention or by making someone else the centre of attention. He’d carefreely allow you to draw mustaches on him with a marker or defiantly laugh when his Dad would pull his sideburns. He preferred to learn lessons the hard way:) The gentleness of his Mom was in him as he’d tenderly hug her regularly and express his love for her. He was her boy.

Cars, football, friends, and the gym became favourite pastimes for Piercen as a teenager. This is when we started to see his capability to give 100% to anything he wanted to hyper-focus on. His physical dominance (you’re welcome, Piercen) over his brothers and Dad created chaos at many family functions. Oftentimes, someone would end up in tears from laughing by disguising the real tears from a slightly too hard Charlie horse issued by his massive fist. He was incredibly loyal and always celebrated others’ wins, particularly with his best friend, Elic. When it’s easy to tear people down, even in high school, he lifted them up.

As a young adult, he was torn in which journey to follow. After attending the University of Western Ontario on a football scholarship, he knew that wasn’t his journey. Never afraid of trying something new, even a Women’s Studies course his Aunt wanted him to take because it was important to her; not him. By focusing on getting his crane and real estate license simultaneously, he was forging his own path, seeking joy and fulfillment in a career, but not sure in what. It takes a lot of bravery to change directions in the search for joy. There’s no denying that he went into everything with heart and independence.

Piercen’s larger than life presence leaves a crater in our family. His life will not be forgotten. His laugh, walk, smiling eyes, and playfulness will always be remembered by not only family, but hundreds of friends and acquaintances.

His passing on Monday, June 9th, 2025, at the age of 22 years is heartbreaking to his family and friends. Piercen leaves to cherish his memory his loving parents, Darcy (Melissa) Meier and Kristie Meier; brothers, Kaden Meier, Brady Ulmer, and Brennan Meier; sister, Cara Reid (Luke Miller); grandparents, Terry Meier (Joanne Otto), Marilyn (Jim) Ogston, Roxanne (Dave) Marr, and Doug (Carol) Irving; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Piercen was predeceased by his grandma, Lynn Meier, and great-grandparents, Doreen and Herb Beierbach.

A Memorial Service honouring Piercen’s life will be held at Holy Family Parish, 1451 Strachan Road SE, Medicine Hat, on Friday, June 20th, 2025, at 1:00 pm with Pastor Shane Hein officiating. MARLENE LILYAN (EGAN) NOGA

MARLENE LILYAN (EGAN) NOGA The family of Marlene Lilyan (Egan) Noga are saddened to announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, grandma and great grandma on June 10, 2025. Marlene was born on January 15, 1937 – the only child of William and Julia Egan, delivered in the middle of a snowstorm by her midwife grandmother. Marlene spent her childhood on the farm NE of Bow Island which is currently being farmed and lived on by the next three generations of her family. She moved to Medicine Hat in 1954 and met Tom; they were married on November 3, 1956. They moved to the farm in 1957 and welcomed four children: Deanna in 1958, Debbie in 1959, Aaron in 1962 and Barry in 1964. They had a lot of good times and a few bad. In 1964, a hail storm wiped out the crop, so they decided to pack up the family and instead went on a camping trip. In 1986, they decided it was time to move off the farm and built a house in town on the golf course – mom wanted it large enough to host everyone on Christmas Eve, and was so proud to continue spending holidays including up to Easter this year with them and watching her ever growing family run around and enjoy the house as much as they did, wondering how all the young children had so much energy when in fact it should be saved for “old” people. Mom and dad were snowbirds spending many winters in Arizona first making the trip in their motorhome. They would return home in time for Christmas, but later purchased a park model in Casa Grande, AZ and instead, their family would travel down to visit them for the holidays. They enjoyed travelling and had many family vacations with their kids and grandkids including visiting Disneyland and Disney World. She learned to play the accordion as a teenager; and her and grandpa would attend the annual accordion festival in Kimberley to listen to the music; it was also a common ground to catch up with friends from all over. Marlene was very musical; playing the piano, the organ and was part of the choir at St. Andrews United Church. Grandma had many hobbies; she was an amazing cook and baker; taught her granddaughters to sew and crochet; made many dresses and quilts for her children and grandchildren. There was never a need to knock at their door, many children would walk through whether they were family or not – they were always welcomed with a snack and toys. In 2017, poor health moved them into the Pleasant View Lodge. She loved being a mom, but her greatest joy came in being a grandma and great grandma, she loved cuddling the babies. In 2022, dad passed away and life wasn’t quite the same without having him to argue with. Marlene is survived by her children Deanna Noga (Howard dec.), Debbie (Rodney) Nelson, Aaron (Bonnie) and Barry (Tracey); grandchildren Scott (Christine) Nelson, Steven (Deenna) Nelson, Cesilee (Ryan) Storkson, Taylor (Trent) Mazutinec, Travis (Erica) Noga, Tomara (Tanner) Holmes and Anndee (James) Webster and twenty-one great grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME & CELEBRATION OF LIFE CENTRE on Friday June 13, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. A private family memorial service will be held. The family wishes to thank the Pleasant View Lodge for the years of great care and the doctors and nurses at the emergency department and 4 West at the Medicine Hat Hospital, especially, Helen and Nancy, for the compassionate care that she received.
