GARY HOLLINGSHEAD

GARY HOLLINGSHEAD February 11, 1939 ~ May 31, 2025
Gary George Hollingshead was born in Edmonton, AB., on February 11, 1939, and passed away peacefully at Masterpiece Southland Meadows in Medicine Hat with family by his side on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at the age of 86 years.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Claire; daughters, Susan Hollingshead and Shauna (Bruce) Sederberg; grandchildren, Alexandra Payze, Danika Mattson, Clancy (Sarah) Sederberg, Olivia Sederberg (Layne Woods) and Lauryn (Brett) Salzl; great-grandchildren, River, Finley, Josie, Robin, Rosalind and Rowan; sister-in-law, Karen Charbonneau and brother-in-law, Arnie Ingram as well as numerous family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Harry and Bea Hollingshead and sister, Joyce Ingram.
Gary was known for his relaxed, happy demeanor and was always up for an adventure. He was an avid golfer, skier and runner who always said the activity was necessary so he could have desert at every meal. Gary had many interesting jobs over the years that eventually let to the proud ownership of G & C Bearing & Supply. He was involved in Kinsman and was also on several boards over the years. After retiring, Gary continued to be busy golfing, skiing and running, as well caring for his small apartment building. One of his favourite jobs was being a lifty at Hidden Valley Ski hill when he was in his 70’s; he laughed at being the old guy at the ski hill. Gary met many wonderful people along the way and was always ready for a visit.
Gary will be remembered without the proceedings of a formal funeral service. (Condolences may be expressed by visiting http://www.cooksouthland.com) In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to a charity of your choice. Honoured to serve the family is

JOAN STANDISH 1942 ~ 2024
It is with deep love and gratitude for her life that we announce the peaceful passing of Joan Kathleen Standish on December 18, 2024, at the age of 82.
Joan was the youngest of seven children born to Pauline and Benjamin Anderson, and was raised in Buffalo, Alberta. She attended high school in Oyen and completed her Nursing Aide training at SAIT in Calgary, going on to work at Deerhome Institution in Red Deer.
In 1964, she married Charles Standish and moved to Burstall, Saskatchewan, where they raised their daughter, Joanne. Joan was a vibrant part of the Burstall community active in school events, supportive of local initiatives, and a talented oil painter whose work lives on as part of her legacy.
Diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1973, Joan approached life with bravery, grace, and determination. Her personal motto, “I have MS, it doesn’t have me,” was a testament to her enduring spirit. She was proud to be named “MS Person of the Year” and actively supported the MS Society throughout her life.
Joan spent the last 36 years in Medicine Hat, where she was a devoted member of the Catholic Church. She sang in the choir, participated in Catholic Women’s League activities, and maintained strong faith and friendships throughout her life.
Joan’s family meant the world to her and she was a very loving grandmother to her two grandsons, Austin and Max. Although unable to travel in later years, Joan continued to hold them foremost in her heart.
Joan was predeceased by her parents, her siblings and their spouses: Gene (Violet) Anderson, Iris and Ted Anderson, Sheila (Sylvio) Talarico, Alice (Ed) Fischbuch, Bill (Frances) Anderson, and her nephew, Billy Anderson.
Joan is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Joanne Standish (Penticton, BC) and her grandsons, Austin and Maxwell Hawthorne (Lake Country, BC), along with many close friends and a large extended family of nieces and nephews whose care and support meant so much.
Our heartfelt thanks go to the staff and leadership at Good Samaritan Society for the compassionate care Joan received in her final years.

GARRY HESCH

GARRY HESCH 1956 ~ 2025
We lost our beloved Garry on Tuesday, June 3rd, 2025, after a short battle with cancer. Garry was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and many more whose lives he touched.
Garry was born the youngest of four children and spent his formative years on the family farm north of Shaunavon, Saskatchewan. Garry married his high school sweetheart, Michelle, on October 16th, 1976, and was blessed with one daughter, Karly.
A jack-of-all-trades, Garry worked in many careers throughout his lifetime. His background in construction served as the foundation for his willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone, for any project, at any time. Early in his career, Garry studied drafting technology at Lethbridge College, later transitioning into the oil industry in Calgary and Medicine Hat. His passion for learning led him to study business at Medicine Hat College, followed by a successful career as a partner at Cypress Insurance. Thirteen years ago, Garry and Michelle retired to pursue their passion for travel. This led them on many memorable adventures in North America, Central America, Europe, and Oceania, collecting memories and stories that they treasured and would share often. Notable highlights include motoring around Canada, winters spent in Mexico, and their recent trip to visit Kary and Nik in Fiji, New Zealand, and Australia.
Garry dedicated countless hours to the community, coaching Michelle’s ball team and Karly’s ringette team. He loved a good game of golf with great friends, camping, boating, fishing, and skiing, especially for many memorable years at the Fernie cabin. Those who knew Garry will remember him for his love of a great Caesar, a thrilling game of cribbage, and his favourite pastime, spending time with family and friends.
Garry’s life is celebrated by his wife of 48 years, Michelle Hesch (nee Tetrault); daughter, Karly Hesch (Nik Dean); brother, Rick Hesch (Carole Wickenheiser); sister, Dianne (Brian) VanSandt; sister-in-law, Lise Tetrault (Linda Mulhall); brothers-in-law, Guy (Donna) Tetrault, Rob (Betty) Tetrault, Alain (Gail) Tetrault, Denis (Marie) Tetrault, Don (Brenda) Tetrault, as well as dear friends, relatives, and colleagues. He was predeceased by his parents, Ivan and Hazel (nee Hermanson) Hesch; his sister, Sharon (Peter) Leggett; his mother and father-in-law, Yvon and Laurette (nee Roy) Tetrault, as well as grandparents, relatives, and friends.
We ask that you remember Garry not for the way his life ended, but for the way it was lived, and for the profound impact it had on the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Please join us for a celebration of life on Thursday, June 12th, at Holy Family Parish, 1451 Strachan Road S.E.with Fr. Iqbal Khurshid celebrant. There will be a eulogy read for Garry at 12:45 p.m. followed by mass at 1:00 p.m. and then a luncheon.
