STEPHEN “STEVE” DONALD SMOLNICKY January 22nd, 1952 May 3rd, 2025 The family of Steve Smolnicky are saddened to announce his passing peacefully on May 3rd, 2025, at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. Steve built a life defined by dedication to his family, his work, and his community. He worked in the environmental and geotechnical field for forty-five years and took great pride in owning his own business, Enviro Geotechnical, for twenty-five years.
Steve met numerous people in the Medicine Hat area during his working years and valued their friendship.
In retirement, Steve and Jeannette launched a successful laundromat/drycleaner, a project that brought them both pride and joy. Steve especially enjoyed family vacations in Mexico, where he created lasting memories with those he loved the most.
Steve is survived by his wife, Jeannette; much loved step children, Terry (Janice) Smith and Andrea (Danny) Sanders; as well as his cherished grandchildren, Emma and Jacob Smith; grand fur dogs, Krieger and Seamus; brother, Roger (Judy) Smolnicky; sisters, Ramah Zima, Debbie McNab; sister-in-law, Marcella Dola, and brother-in-law, Garry (Glenda) Vossler; as well numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held on May 17th, 2025 at 1:00pm at Chinook Village Terrace Room (2801 13th Ave SE entrance 10). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the local SPCA (55 Southwest Drive, Medicine Hat AB. T1A 8E8) in Steve’s memory. Condolences may be made at

MARIAN GROSS
1933 – MARIAN GROSS – 2025 Marian Barbara “Barb” Gross of Medicine Hat, AB, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at the age of ninety-two years. She was predeceased by her husband, Ernie, in 1994. She is survived by her two daughters, Heather (Dean) Smith of Calgary and Sue (Jim) Van der Sloot of Medicine Hat; her four grandchildren, Kirsten (Max) Lancee, Jackie (Jeremy) Pui, Jessica (Jerrett) Stephenson, and Nick (Brooklyn) Van der Sloot; her sister, Diane Hopkins, as well as many nieces and nephews. Barb was born in Saskatoon, SK, and met Ernie while they were attending university. She received her B. Sc. in Medical Laboratory Technology, she especially enjoyed working as a technologist in an endocrinology research lab while her husband completed medical school. They moved to Medicine Hat in 1975, where they happily remained for the rest of their lives. Barb was a lifelong member of a sorority, and she enjoyed the friendship and camaraderie within Beta Sigma Phi, particularly her involvement in the sorority’s annual Christmas gift wrap fundraiser at the old mall. She loved gardening (raspberries galore, begonias, and beautiful indoor violets), and was the trivia expert in the family (crosswords and the best partner one could hope for at Trivial Pursuit matches). She was a wonderful dog owner for many years, giving her black standard poodles daily walks and enjoying their company. She was an avid reader, an accomplished knitter, and enjoyed watching all team sports on TV, especially her beloved Saskatchewan Roughriders. The family greatly appreciated the wonderful care that Barb received on the dementia unit at Southlands Masterpiece. A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date. MARGARET LEONARD 1931 ~ 2025 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Margaret Theresa Leonard, on May 4, 2025, at the age of 94 years. She leaves to cherish her memory 3 daughters, Cheryl Ellis (Brian Hill), Lori (Marty) Ross, and Marlene (Billy) McKinley; 5 grandchildren, Lindsay (Dallas) Monk, Bradyn (Skyla) Ross, Taylor (Ben) Robinson, Eryn Santink, and Ethan Ross; and 3 great-grandchildren, Morleigh Monk, Lainey Monk, and Billy Robinson. Mom was born in Medicine Hat on February 2, 1931, to the late William and Florence Anson. Her siblings were Gladys (Wilf Hurlburt) and Bill (Lorine Bohnet). She lived her entire life in Medicine Hat, attending elementary school at Connaught and graduating from Alexandra in 1950. As a teen, she worked at the MHRH and the Monarch Theatre. Mom married our father, Murray Leonard, in 1950 and was his beloved wife for 62 years. They owned and operated “Leonard and Perrett Transport” in partnership with Garth and Nell Perrett for over 50 years. Mom and Dad were involved with the Medicine Hat Exhibition and Stampede for many years and were long standing fans of the Medicine Hat Tigers. They travelled with friends to the NFR in the US and to the CFR in Edmonton for 20 years. They took bus tours and cruises to various locations. Mom continued moved into Senior Living in 2020 and was hospitalized 2 months prior to her death. We would like to extend a special thank you to Dr Majeed, the 5 West nurses at the MHRH and all of the outstanding medical staff at St. Joseph’s Carmel Hospice for the wonderful care that Mom received.
