Sam S. Hofer passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at the age of 67 years after fighting a lengthy battle with Multiple Sclerosis.
Sam was born in Medicine Hat on April 27, 1958, to Pred. John and Barbara Hofer, the 10th of 12 children. He lived the first 21 years of his life at Spring Creek Colony. In 1979, he moved to Elkwater Colony and married the love of his life that same year, Susan, who he called ‘My Sweetheart’. Upon moving to Elkwater, Sam became a mechanic, a job he was very passionate about. In 1984 at the age of 26, Sam was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Towards the late 90’s, Sam’s health started to decline which forced him to retire from being a mechanic, but he never let MS define him. His patience and perseverance were an inspiration to many. Sam carried his trial with great humility and his faith in the Lord helped him immensely. Whenever he was asked, “How are you?” Sam replied with a very enthusiastic, “very good!” Sam had the sweetest smile. His wife, Susan cared for him for 30 years and their 5 boys fulfilled their purpose in helping to take care of their Dad.
Along with Susan, his wife of 46 years, Sam is survived by their sons, Gary (Brenda), Ted (Rosey), Glen (Amy), Samuel (Eda) and Nathan (Joni); 20 grandchildren all of whom he loved and cherished, Sheldon, Tanesha, Kelly, Sylvia, Kaden, Janaya, Teanna, Carson, Liam, Angela, Natalya, Jayven, Avery, Adoniram, Kamden, Evander, Sarah, Kaity, Cai and Shailom; 5 brothers; 3 sisters as well as numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, too many to mention. ‘Dad, we will miss you greatly but we know you are in a place more glorious then we ever could imagine; free from pain and suffering in the presence of Jesus. We love you Dad! Rest in peace.
The family would like to thank everyone who helped take care of Sam throughout the years. Your kindness is appreciated more than you know. Your reward will be great; may God bless you! ELAINE BRODIE

ELAINE BRODIE 1945-2025 Elaine Katherine Brodie of Burstall, Saskatchewan, beloved wife of the late William Gordon Brodie, passed away on Friday, May 2, 2025, at the age of 79 years.
Elaine was born in Leader, Saskatchewan on November 20, 1945, to John and Johanna Helfrich. She was raised on the family farm and attended school in Empress, where her mother was a teacher. While in high school, Elaine found the love of her life, Bill Brodie. Elaine and Bill married in 1964, and together they raised four boys: Shawn, Shane, Michael and Brendan.
Elaine earned her Business diploma and worked in banking before becoming the Burstall Town Administrator. Even while working full time and raising her very busy family, Elaine was an active and engaged community member. She held many roles and responsibilities in support of Burstall, such as bookkeeping for the Fall Fair and fundraising for the new hall. When the boys were young, Elaine and Bill spent many hours on the road and in arenas watching them play hockey, cheering them on in school sports, enjoying summer vacations, and visiting extended family.
Elaine had many interests and an active social life. She enjoyed playing sports, including fastball, basketball, curling, golf and bowling. For hobbies she liked to knit, sew, quilt, crochet, preserve, bake and garden – basically anything she set her mind to. She loved watching sports, playing cards, and visiting with friends over coffee on her back deck or at Sunday brunch at the restaurant.
More than anything, Elaine loved family gatherings. She hosted her siblings and their families, and later on, her children and an increasing number of grandchildren. Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, and summer vacations in Burstall were anticipated events, and Elaine always had a few freezers full of baking and a large supply of treats waiting for her guests. She especially enjoyed cuddling and chatting with the new babies in the family.
Elaine will be sadly missed by her son Shawn and his daughters Keanna (Coel and their daughter Scarlett) and Brooke, and their mother, Sherry; her son Shane (Gayle and their children Dusten (Kim) and his children Alaura (Sebastian and their daughter Makinley), William, Paige and Emersyn; Bryce (Sara) and their children Bella, Brielle, Sadie, Samuel and Deacon; Ben (Leah and their children Finn and Isla) and Jeana (Kade and their children Tilly and Shane); her son Mike (Dianne and their children Alison (Dylan) and Jordan (Patti)); and her son Brendan (Deanna and their children Greyson and Charlie). Elaine is also survived by her sisters Clara (Raymond Antoni) and Sarah (Dan VanMaarian), sisters-in-law Judy Dirk and Maureen Helfrich, brothers Wayne (Lise), Jack, and Bill (Anne), and brother-in-law Dennis (Val) Brodie, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends, new and old.
Elaine was predeceased by her husband Bill (GG), her parents John and Johanna, sisters Marion (Jim Brown) and Leona, brothers-in-law Rick and Bob (Kathy) sister-in-law Denise, and nephews Michael Scott Brodie, Robin Antoni, and Robbie Dirk.
Elaine was a woman of lifelong deep and devoted faith. Upon moving to Burstall, she was a founding member of St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church where she worshipped and served throughout the rest of her lifetime. Her faith sustained her right until the end.
Elaine will be remembered for her beautiful smile, her fun-loving spirit, her generosity, her amazing memory, financial sense, and her unwavering love for her family. She was a devoted and selfless daughter, sister, wife, mother, and friend, and she will be sadly missed.
The funeral mass will be celebrated in ST. PATRICK’S ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH (238 2nd Ave N.E.) on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Roque Pereira Celebrant. Reception will follow. A private family interment will take place at the Burstall Cemetery.
Donations in memory of Elaine can be made to the Burstall Community Hall Box 250 Burstall, Saskatchewan S0N 0H0
The service will be live streamed. Those who wish to attend virtually, please visit Elaine’s obituary page on our website, for the link. To leave a message of condolence you may visit http://www.pattisonfuneralhome.com.
