GILBERT BODIN
GILBERT BODIN 1929 ~ 2025
Gilbert Bodin passed away peacefully on Monday February 10, 2025, with family at his side. Gilbert was the beloved husband of the late Ivy Bodin for almost 68 years. He leaves to cherish his memory his children Brenda (Larry) Robinson, Rod (Sharon), Wayne (Marlene), Elaine (Randy) Humphrey, Syd (Sharon), Keith (Brenda), Todd (Samantha) and his sister Beverly, as well as 18 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. Dad was anxiously awaiting the arrival of two more great grandchildren this summer. Gilbert was born on April 9, 1929, one of four children born to Fred and Esther Bodin. As a young man he worked at the Brick and Tile in Medicine Hat before marrying Ivy in 1950. They moved to Etzikom in 1952, at which time he began working for the County of Forty Mile as a grader operator. He had a strong work ethic and took pride in doing a good job of blading roads or plowing snow. In 1958 they moved to the family farm north of Orion. Dad loved the farm, working with the cattle and seeding cops. He was a helpful neighbor, often pulling calves in the spring or helping at harvest. Gilbert was a real “people person” enjoying the company of others at community dances, auction sales or over a cup of coffee at the kitchen table. Family was important to Dad, and he looked forward to his children’s graduations, weddings, sharing their successes and happiness. In 1993, Ivy and Gilbert started a new chapter in their lives when they moved to Medicine Hat, making new friends and enjoying a few bus trips. After 24 years in their own home, they moved to a seniors complex where they enjoyed home – cooked meals, music, dancing, bingo games, marble games and picnics on the patio. After Mom passed away in 2018, Dad continued to live at Vallyview, always eager to have his kids visit or take him out for lunch. Gilbert was predeceased by his wife Ivy, his daughter Wanda, his granddaughter Staci as well as his parents Fred and Esther Bodin, his sister Irene and his brother Wallace as well as his in – laws Adolph and Emma Greene. We were indeed blessed to have Dad for 95 years and will remember his smile and words of encouragement. Family and friends who wish to pay their respects may do so one hour prior to the funeral service. The funeral service with take place at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME & CELEBRATION OF LIFE CENTRE on Friday February 14, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. with Life Celebrant David Townsend officiating.
