DAVID JAMES SYMINGTON
DAVID JAMES SYMINGTON December 8, 1956 – January 25, 2025 It is with profound sorrow and shock that we announce the passing of David James Symington at the age 68 years.
David was predeceased by his wife Gail Ungstad, his parents George and Sylvia, and his brother Andrew. He is survived by his brothers: Bruce, Alex (Carol), Murray, Duncan and Craig; his mother in law Dorothy; his sisters-in-law Eileen (Dan) and Joan (Gerry); his brothers-in-law Peter (Christine) and Wayne; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Friday at 1:00 PM, February 7, 2025 at St Peter’s Ecumenical Church, 508 7 ST SE, Slave Lake followed by lunch in the Church Hall.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Alberta Diabetes, Cancer fund or a charity of your choice.

JOAN DARLENE JEWER May 21st, 1951 February 1st, 2025 Joan Jewer passed away on February 1st, 2025, at the age of 73 years. She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Ken (Chasity) Jewer; daughter, Shauna Jewer (Jason Lentz); stepdaughter, Brenda Jewer-Snow; grandchildren, Joshua, Logan, Raistlin, Kiara, Macklin and Augusta; brothers, Lindsay Vogel and Terry Vogel; stepbrothers, John Smith and Barry Smith; sister, Jean (Wayne) Crawford; partner, Wally; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Joan was predeceased by her parents, Chester and Sheila Vogel; stepmom, Rose Vogel; brother, Larry Vogel; stepbrother, Wayne Smith.
Joan will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

1933 -VALERIE “JOYCE” QUAST – 2025
It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Valerie “Joyce” Quast, who departed this world peacefully on February 4, 2025, in her beloved hometown of Medicine Hat, Alberta at the age of 91 years. Joyce was born on March 24, 1933, to the loving parents, Stanley and Grace Dowling. She lived a remarkable life that spanned nearly 92 wonderful years, filled with love, joy, and countless memories that will forever be cherished by those who knew her. Joyce was a beacon of kindness and generosity, traits that endeared her to all who crossed her path. She was known for her feisty spirit and unwavering zest for life, saying, “I have lived a good life.” Her presence inspired many, and she touched the hearts of her family and friends with her warmth and compassion. Joyce, Ray and Ross resided in California for over 45 years before her returning to Medicine Hat in 2018. Throughout her life, Joyce pursued a dedicated career as an administrative clerk before enjoying her well-deserved retirement. Her commitment to her work mirrored her dedication to her family and community. She was a cherished member of the UKE Crew and an active participant in her church. Joyce was a woman of many passions. She loved dancing, particularly as an avid square dancer, and her enthusiasm for music was boundless. Whether playing, singing, or attending concerts, Joyce found joy in every musical note. She also delighted in helping with coffee parties and potlucks at her condominium and with her church community, bringing people together with her vibrant spirit and infectious laughter. Joyce was preceded in death by her beloved spouse, Raymond Quast; her son, Ross Quast, and daughter-in-law, Loretta Quast; her brother, Ronald (Marie) Dowling; and her devoted parents, Stanley and Grace Dowling. She is survived by many family members and friends, who will remember her fondly for her warmth, her stories, and the many lessons she imparted to them throughout their lives. A memorial service will be held to honor Joyce’s life at 1:00 pm on Friday, February 7, 2025, at Crossroads Church, 1340 22 Street SE, Medicine Hat, AB. WALTER BERGSTRESER
WALTER BERGSTRESER 1947 ~ 2025 Walter Reinhart Bergstreser, of Medicine Hat, beloved husband of Vivian, passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones on February 2, 2025, at the age of 77 years, following a brief battle with cancer.
Wally was born on October 22, 1947, in Empress, Alberta, the youngest son of Walter and Frieda of Acadia Valley, and grew up on the family farm. After university, Wally pursued teaching, farming, travelling, carpentry and ministry. He married Vivian in 1980, becoming a father to Debbie. The new family welcomed Jennifer in 1982 and Shannon in 1988. Wally had the heart of an educator, teaching in Rosemary, Plenty, Mayfield Colony, Manyberries, and Margaret Wooding. Mr. Berg loved every one of his students. Retirement was spent woodworking, gardening, volunteering, reading, camping, and doting on his beloved grandchildren.
Dad was a kind and gentle man, and a steadfast friend. His happiest times were spent in his garden and creating in his workshop. He was totally devoted to his wife of 45 years and his loving family. He will be deeply missed.
Wally is survived by his wife, Vivian; children Debbie (Steve) Foley, Jennifer (Jordon) Duncan, and Shannon Bergstreser; grandchildren Dustin Enslen, Amanda Enslen (Rhys Morgan), Paige Kirkpatrick and Summer Kirkpatrick; brother Hugo Bergstreser and brother-in-law Gary Sample (Margaret), as well as many nieces, nephews, and their families. He was predeceased by his parents, Walter and Frieda Bergstreser, sister and brother-in-law Vivian and Nick Stark, and parents-in-law Cyril and Gene Sample. The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME & CELEBRATION OF LIFE CENTRE on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. with Marg McCulley officiating.
