MIKE SCHOTTNER

MIKE SCHOTTNER 1966 – 2025 It is with broken hearts and profound sadness that Ryan and Mason Schottner announce the sudden and unexpected passing of their Dad, Michael ” Mike” Neil Schottner on Monday, January 6, 2025, at the age of 58 years.
He was predeceased by his parents, Dorothy and Louis Schottner, one sister Karen, and his aunts, Jo, Esther, Regina and Klela. He will be forever missed and lovingly remembered by his sons Ryan and Mason Schottner, their mother Tracey FitzGerald, his brothers and their wives Lou and Kim Schottner, Tim and Anna Schottner and Steve Schottner; his sister Suzie; nephews Rob, Carson, Kyle, Luke, and Josh; his nieces Francesca and Brittany along with their spouses and children; as well as his many friends and coworkers.
Mike was a big fan of the Saskatchewan Roughriders and enjoyed many trips with his friends to attend games. His love of football began when he first attended a Roughriders game at Taylor Field in his youth. He continued to follow this passion at McCoy High School where he joined the Colts football team. His team jacket, still in his possession, is now a treasured memento for his boys.
Mike enjoyed many fun times and adventures with his friends and family whom he loved spending time with. He had a great sense of humour and was always the life of the party. He loved camping and sitting around a campfire talking, reminiscing, and especially laughing. He took his sons on lots of road trips, creating many special and happy memories. He was lucky to have an amazing group of friends from his youth who have remained close throughout their adult lives and whose friendships meant so much to him.
After high school, Mike completed his masonry apprenticeship and became a certified and talented bricklayer. He worked in the trade for many years, and his workmanship can still be seen in homes and buildings around the city. Wanting a change of pace, he moved to Calgary and ran construction jobs and managed several big projects. In 2012, he moved back to Medicine Hat to be closer to his boys and family. He got a job working at Home Depot where he became a Department Manager and has worked there for the past 11 years. One of Mike’s greatest sources of joy came from spending time with his sons. He was very proud of them and would often say he had the best kids. He was very excited to have purchased a home where his boys could come and stay with him regularly. The weekends and happy times they spent together, with their dad there, will be forever cherished.
A celebration of Michael’s life will be held at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME & CELEBRATION OF LIFE CENTRE (540 South Railway Street SE) on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. with Life Celebrant David Townsend Officiating. Everyone wishing to attend is welcome. The service will be live streamed. Please visit Mike’s obituary page on our website, for the link. Interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery. Those who wish to remember Mike with a donation may do so to the charity of your choice. To leave a message of condolence you may visit http://www.pattisonfuneralhome.com.
