EILEEN REINHELLER

EILEEN REINHELLER December 23, 1935 – December 21, 2024
Eileen Reinheller of Medicine Hat died on December 21, 2024 at the age of 88. Eileen was born on December 23, 1935 in her parents’ farmhouse near Golden Prairie, Saskatchewan.
Along with her parents Henry and Martha Fischer, Eileen was predeceased by big brother Ray Fischer and her son Lyle Reinheller. Eileen is survived by big brother Ben (late Carrie) Fischer. Eileen leaves to cherish her memory; son Lee (Corili Hepner) Reinheller, Della (Carmon) Dewald and Angie Maser. She is survived by seven grandchildren, Charr (Mike) Drever, Amber McArady, Justin (Alycia Budgell) Reinheller, Jennifer (Charles) Rocheleau, Kristy (Brendan) Hertz, Jessica (Joshua Ehman) Maser and Savanna Schneider; and ten great grandchildren Karleigh and Addison Drever, Miaya Boucher, Melody and Ben Rocheleau, Ivy Hertz, Alize and Bishop Stoa, Korbin and Kaine Ehman.
Eileen was an amazing story teller. Many of her stories were about the struggle of growing up and living on the farm getting by with very little. She often talked about her horse Trixie with her beautiful white face and black shiny coat. Trixie would stand on the back step of the house looking in waiting to ride her to school. Eileen also told us about her favorite white and fluffy kitten, Snowball.
Eileen played the guitar and pump organ that she learned to play-by-ear. She had a beautiful singing voice and in her youth loved singing in choirs and playing the organ for church and family events; she said in those days everyone gathered around and sang. She talked about how much she loved her big brothers singing like larks around the organ or playing red light green light for hours. As a young girl Eileen moved to Medicine Hat and lived with a girlfriend in Riverside getting a job at a factory sorting peas to help support her family. Eileen married Albert and they moved their little family to Medicine Hat in 1967. They loved dancing, camping, travelling to the States in their motorhome, their first big trip to Hawaii and making homemade sausage and noodles. She loved taking Lyle camping, drinking beer and juice and sitting around the campfire for hours. Later she loved taking the grandkids camping in granny’s van, teaching them how to talk to the trucker’s on the CB radio, showing them how to make campfires and cook pie irons and telling them stories late into the night.
Eileen did many things to support her family, in the early years she worked at dining rooms & restaurants eventually settling on driving a school bus for Totem Transportation for 25 years mostly driving for students attending George P. Vanier School, with some of those students fondly calling her “Reinheller Baby”; she then took up selling real estate for a number of years before retiring. She had many close friends and colleagues which she greatly valued. Eileen served on a number of Boards.
She loved curling when she was young and then watching every game on TV; she loved the Toronto Blue Jays and bantering over the game with Lyle. She loved visiting over the phone with her kids, family & friends and her dear cousins, she also loved the sunshine that shone in her condo every morning.
We loving called her granny and more than anything Eileen loved her family. She loved her children and the families they raised. She said I feel so lucky to have such a beautiful family to share my life with. Whether it was making pinwheel cookies in her kitchen, our really big Christmas parties, birthdays and all the family celebrations in between these were her most treasured moments. We will miss you granny. A private graveside service will be held at Hillside Cemetery. EDWIN MEUCHEL

EDWIN MEUCHEL 1936 ~ 2024
The family of Edwin George Meuchel regrets to announce his peaceful passing at the age of 88 years on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. Edwin was born on May 8, 1936 to Tillie and John Meuchel in Maple Creek, SK. His father, John, passed when Edwin was one year old so Edwin spent much of his early years on his grandparents’ farm in the Blumenfeld area close to Prelate, SK. The young boy loved the freedom of helping on the farm, and it was there that he developed his lifelong love of horses. He went to Prelate School, then in grades 9 and 10 he had the opportunity to attend St. Thomas College in North Battleford, SK where he played hockey on the college team. He then returned to Prelate to complete his education. The city lights of Calgary beckoned this young, adventurous man so he moved to work at Calgary Power and play hockey. While there, a romance kindled with a hometown girl named Dolores Hoffart. Realizing they had a pretty good thing, the couple moved back to Prelate, where they married on February 22, 1960, the last couple to do so in the Blumenfeld Church. Carol Ann was born a year later, and Mark, Glen, and Troy followed. Edwin worked at St. Angela’s Academy, and farmed his grandparents’ land with his Uncle Pat. After retiring from the Academy after 47 years, Edwin enjoyed travelling, camping, golfing, hockey, and watching his beloved Blue Jays. He and Dolores moved to Medicine Hat in 2013. Edwin was predeceased by his father, John in 1937; his mother, Tillie in 1988; his sister, Marlene Materi in 2013; nephews, Tim and Darvin, and niece, Cindy. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Dolores (nee Hoffart); his daughter, Carol Ann; sons, Mark (Sandy), Glen (Pauline) and Troy (Jami) along with10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his nieces, Jackie, Lila, Joanne, and nephew, Tom. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Parish, 1451 Strachan Road SE, Medicine Hat on Monday, December 30, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. with Father Iqbal Khurshid celebrant. Those wishing to join the family virtually and experience the Funeral Mass are invited to watch via live-stream by connecting to YouTube and searching: Medicine Hat Holy Family Church and selecting the video link. Interment will be held at a later date at the Blumenfeld Church Cemetery. RICHARD ALLAN FRAZER

RICHARD ALLAN FRAZER 1945 – 2024
Richard (Rick) Frazer, of Swan River, died on December 21st at the Medicine Hat Hospital after a long struggle with esophageal cancer.
Rick was born in Swan River on September 25th, 1945, where he attended primary school and high school. After high school he studied at Brandon University to acquire a teaching certificate. He taught in Birch River and Benito Manitoba for two years before moving to Edmonton Alberta to start a local moving business with a friend. While in Edmonton he met Jackie Chaykowski, of Medicine Hat, and they married in 1970 and they had their first son, Kevin, in 1973. In 1977, the family moved back to Swan River and added another son, Corey. Richard worked for many years in the office of Cox’s grocery store doing accounting and payroll, followed by Riddell’s Plumbing and Heating. In 2017, Rick and Jackie (and his beloved dog Maggie) moved to Medicine Hat to be closer to Jackie’s family, with whom Rick was also very close.
Rick was well known in Swan River and surrounding communities due to the public facing aspects of his work at Cox’s and Riddell’s as well as his activities with the Lion’s Club and membership of the Swan River Curling Club. He loved golf, playing cards, the outdoors and road trips with the family. His yearly fishing trip to Elbow Lake was very special to him. Those who were able to share that place with him cherish many warm memories. He will be remembered as being hard working, generous to a fault, and giving of himself to his friends and family. He had an understated wit, an easy laugh and the mischievous twinkle in his eye. His quiet stoicism through Jackie’s declining health, and then his own was remarkable. He took his changing life circumstances as they came and did the best that he could to enjoy what time he had left, even getting cataract surgery in both eyes although he know he wouldn’t have much time to enjoy his crystal clear vision. He was a wonderful father, husband, brother and friend, and will be sorely missed.
Rick is survived by his son, Corey; sisters, Doreen Phimister (Don), Susan Fraser (Robert), Joanne Frazer (Ken); and his brother, Ken Frazer (Eileen). He was predeceased by his parents, Bena and Harold Frazer; his wife, Jackie; and his son, Kevin.
A small private memorial will be held in Medicine Hat. A public memorial service will be held in Swan River, MB in June of 2025. He and Jackie will be laid to rest in Swan River Cemetery at that time.
Donations in Richard’s name can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
