ALOYS BISCHOFF 1932 ~ 2024 Mr. Aloysius ‘Aloys’ Bischoff, beloved husband of Bernadette, passed away in Medicine Hat on Sunday, September 22, 2024, at the age of 92 years. RICHARD MICHAEL LEWANS

RICHARD MICHAEL LEWANS October 20th, 1953 August 11th, 2024
The family of Richard Lewans regretfully announce his passing on August 11th, 2024, at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital.

Rick was born on October 20th, 1953, to Doreen (nee Barth) and Leo Lewans and was raised in Medicine Hat. He left school early and worked numerous jobs before finding his calling as a civilian employee at CFB Suffield, where he worked until his retirement after more that 30 years.

Rick was a member of the Moose Lodge as well as the Elks. He enjoyed donating time selling raffle tickets each year. Rick loved playing cards and had many trophies to prove his skill. For many years, Rick also liked to help his cousin, Jerome at harvest time trucking the grain from the combine. In later years, Rick called bingo at South Country Village which he loved to do. He also had a huge TV, watching every sport from curling to wrestling but especially his beloved Blue Jays. Rick was very appreciative of all the care he received at South Country Village and often spoke of the good staff who looked after him so well.

Rick is survived by his father, Leo Lewans; his aunt, Irma Syrenne; uncles, Al and George Lewans; as well as many cousins. He was predeceased by his mother, Doreen.

The Funeral Mass will take place at Holy Family Parish on September 30th, 2024, at 10:30am with Father Iqbal Kurshid celebrant. Interment will take place after service at Hillside Cemetery, where Rick will be laid to rest with his mother, Doreen.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at South Country Village for the care and friendship Rick received over the years. Also, thank you to the staff of the dialysis unit of Medicine Hat Hospital, as well as the doctors and nurses of 4 West for the compassionate care Rick received during his final days.

PETER JOHN FREY
March 26th, 1956 September 19th, 2024 Peter Frey passed away on September 19th, 2024, at the age of 68 years. He leaves to cherish his memory his sisters, Lola Frey and Bernadette (Al) Wahl; as well as numerous nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; great great nieces and nephews. Peter was predeceased by his parents, Vincent and Katherine Frey; brother, Earl Frey; sisters, Ella Miller and Sheila Walker.
Peter was born in Taber, AB. Bowling was his life and he loved to sit at the mall and visit with friends.

JOYCE RASMUSSEN

1936 ~ JOYCE RASMUSSEN ~ 2024 Joyce Catherine Rasmussen (nee Peter) passed away peacefully at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at the age of 88 years. Joyce will be lovingly missed by her son, Duane (Janine); her daughter, Wendy (James); her grandchildren, Cale (Cheryl), Michael (Lauren), Jay (Sarah), and Sarah (Tait); and her great-grandchildren, Tyson, Ethan, Quinn, Hadley, Hazel, Blayke, Ellie, Ruby, Cooper, and Colby. She will also be missed by her sisters-in-law, Gladys, Carole, and Mary Rose; her brother-in-law, Dick, and her very good friend, Jeannine. Joyce was predeceased by her husband, Gordon; her parents, Hilda and Harry Peter; her brother, Arthur; and her sister, Mae. Joyce was born in Medicine Hat in 1936 and raised in the Elkwater area. She received her education in Elkwater (up to Grade 9), Irvine (Grade 10), and boarded at the Dormitory in Medicine Hat for Grades 11 and 12. Joyce also took a French Course at the Banff School of Fine Arts one summer. She married Gordon Rasmussen in 1957. For the next 37 years, she was an active member of the community chaperoning school trips, a Cub Leader, a member of the Alberta Women’s Institute and the Orion Community Association and so much more. In 1994, Joyce and Gordon retired to Medicine Hat. Joyce loved to walk, whether it be out on the farm or in Medicine Hat upon retirement, she continued to cruise around the community with her walker until shortly before her passing. Upon retiring to Medicine Hat, she also took up golfing and bowling. She especially loved the Sweet Grass Hills (“they are my talisman”), Red Rock Coulee, and the Ranger Station. Celtic music was always a favourite and she loved her birds! Joyce was fortunate to have some wonderful travels with Gordon and many family and friends. But most of all, Joyce loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and they adored her. The family would like to say a special thank you to the staff at St. Joseph’s Home for their kind and compassionate care of Joyce in her last few weeks and to AgeCare Valleyview for the role they played in assisting Joyce in her transition to retirement living. The Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, September 26, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Saamis Memorial Funeral Chapel, #1 Dunmore Road SE, AB Medicine Hat with Pastor Shane Hein officiating.
