AMBERLY ROSE (HALL) SCHMILFENIG

AMBERLY ROSE (HALL) SCHMILFENIG Amberly Rose (Hall) Schmilfenig, born on Nov. 25, 1977 (46) left us unexpectedly and suddenly at University of Alberta Hospital in Edmonton, AB, from a brain aneurysm.
She married the love of her life, Corey Allan Schimelefenig, on May 18, 2014, and together with their children, Sierra, Jackson, Abigail, Jewel, Austin, Hayley and her fur babies created a mountain of memories as the children were the biggest love of her life with Corey.
Amberly and Corey became grandparents, she loved the title “grandma” to their grandsons, Darien and Daniel.
She is survived by her parents Gordon Hall, Susan Pope (Lawrence Heck), her brother Rick (Pamela) Hall, and sister Jennifer (Wally) Weir, her stepsiblings, Carrielynn and Curtis Heck, her aunts, uncles and as well as her parents in law; Bob (Trudy) Schimelfenig, and their families. Amberly is also survived by her nieces, nephews and cousins. And finally, however not least all, her friends near and far.
A service to Celebrate Amberly’s life will be held on Saturday, August 10 th at 2pm at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints located at 7 Saamis Rotary Way SW, Medicine Hat. SHELLEY EILEEN TURCOTTE December 10th, 1956 – July 30th, 2024 Shelley Turcotte passed away on July 30th, 2024, at the age of 67 years. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Conrad Turcotte; sons, Trevor Turcotte and Cody (Erin) Turcotte; daughter, Amy (Reid) Sorsdahl; grandchildren, Karsynn, Colter and Cavan; sisters, Sylvia (Doug) Matley and Carolyne Jensen. Shelley was predeceased by her parents; brothers, Ed and Ewan and Ron.

PRESTON HELLE

PRESTON HELLE 1943 ~ 2024
In the wee hours of Friday, July 26, 2024, the angels arrived to escort Preston heavenward. His departure marked the conclusion of a battle with prostate cancer that had lasted more than a year. Even though Preston was anxious for the end to finally come, he never stopped considering others, thinking of ways in which he could bless them. This was the new Preston that so many of us came to know, love, and appreciate.

Preston was born in Eastend and took his schooling there. He left the classroom early to begin his working life. His jobs were many and varied, and it provided a good working knowledge in construction, earth moving, surveying up in the Territories, and finally, farming and cattle. His adventure with Agriculture proved to be the best part of his life. “If he had known it was so good, he would have started sooner.” He especially liked the idea of “winters off;” and time off in the California sun.

Perhaps his sense of humour is what allowed him to greatly enjoy both agriculture and his friendships. He was quick to reply with a good one-liner when the opportunity arose. It was one of his endearing traits and he used it well. He was also a man of habit and determination. He was constantly looking for ways to improve his health via exercise and diet. He walked more in a day than most could cover in a month. If ice cream was permitted in his latest diet, it was served at 8 PM! Preston never committed to an idea, or gadget, or a machinery purchase until it was thoroughly researched. He was a careful and conscientious man with decisions. He hated ending up with what is best known as “buyers’ remorse.”

In retrospect, there were a couple decisions that made Preston much happier than he expected: his first new home bought in Medicine Hat in 2013. He enjoyed the home and location so much that he often said, “If I had known how much I liked living in the desert, I would have moved here 10 years sooner.” It was a move and change to his life he never second guessed.

Another decision even more significant in Preston’s life was to follow Jesus. He didn’t jump into it; rather, he weighed the value of such a life changing event methodically, slowly, arbitrarily and open mindedly. He knew what Christianity taught, he had seen it lived by individuals he respected, and it made the possibility of a life forgiven for past mistakes, failures and disappointments a reality for himself. Preston asked Christ to be his Saviour and Redeemer; Now he came to the end of his life with a Promise of God of eternal life, a gift freely given to those who seek Him.

Joseph Preston Helle was predeceased by his parents, father George Helle and mother, Jeanne Helle, and a sister, Jacqualine (best known as Tinker). He is survived by his younger brother, Tim and his wife, Jan, and their 2 daughters of Salmon Arm, B.C. and vicinity. Also surviving are three grandnieces residing in Calgary, AB. FRANK CALLAGHAN 1934 – 2024
With deep sadness, the family of Frank Karl Callaghan share his passing on July 13th, 2024, at the age of 90 years, after a brief illness. He will be forever missed by his two sons Gord (Kathleen), Clay (Nancy), five grandchildren Carly, Bridget, Laura, Paige, Olivia and great granddaughter Ellie. Dad was predeceased by our Mom, Theresa, and son, Marty. He leaves behind his younger brother Bill Callaghan, and numerous nieces and nephews. The well-being of Dad’s entire family was his lifelong focus and we will be forever grateful for the love and wisdom he shared. We would like to thank the nursing staff of the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital Dialysis Unit and 5 East for their outstanding compassion and care.

MARVIN STUBER 1933 ~ 2024
Marvin John Stuber, beloved husband of Barbara Stuber, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 1, 2024 at the age of 90 years. He is the loving father of Carol (Michael) Dell and Sandra (Warren) Jans. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren, Vanessa Stewart and her children Taylor-Ann, Anna Leigh, and Mason, April (Corey) Hopfner and their children, Everett and Cassian, Rebecca (Shaun) Dunlop, Brad (Amberly) Dell, Lisa (Dillon) Jans and their son Lemmy, Tracy (Kyle) Konynenbelt and their children Kade, Kacey and Kash, and Carla Jans (Sean Starosta). Marvin was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Salamina (Rath) Stuber; his parents-in-law, Dave and Evelyn (Wiens) Redekop, and his sister, Marjorie (Paul) Weinberger.
Marvin was born in Medicine Hat, Alberta on September 6, 1933. He was raised south of Seven Persons on the farm and attended Bullshead Butte School. On October 25, 1958, he married Barbara Joyce Redekop.
