PHYLLIS BAYER

PHYLLIS BAYER February 26, 1938 ~ May 30, 2024 Phyllis Dorothy Bayer (nee Roth), a long-time resident of Medicine Hat, passed away peacefully at her residence in Masterpiece Southland Meadows on the eve of Thursday, May 30, 2024, at the age of 86 years.
Phyllis was born in Burstall, Saskatchewan and raised in Burstall and Medicine Hat. She married the late Leslie Bayer in 1958 and was his ‘right hand lady’ on the farm near Schuler, AB where she helped raise their two sons. From ages 19 to 81, Phyllis taught piano lessons for 62 years and played many a tune for church events and professionally as the organist for Cook’s Funeral Chapel for several years. She enjoyed golf, fashion, hosting college students at their home as well as spending time with friends and family.
Phyllis is survived by her sons, Monty (Michelle) and Morley (Christina); four grandchildren, Sloane, Jaydon, Nevayeh and Tayanna; sister, Marlene Craven; aunts, Viola Deering and Idella Ehnisz as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Leslie; father, Emanuel and her mother, Edna.

LESLIE BAYER

LESLIE BAYER May 2, 1934 ~ October 11, 2020 Mr. Leslie Grant Bayer, a long-time resident of Medicine Hat, passed away peacefully of natural causes at the Queen Elizabeth II Hospital in Grande Prairie, Alberta during the Covid pandemic of 2020 at the age of 86 years.
Leslie was born in Empress, Alberta and was raised on the family farm near Schuler, Alberta with his four younger sisters. He graduated from Medicine Hat High School in 1952, with a keen interest in shop and electronics courses. He farmed with his father, Fred, and eventually purchased the farm and adjoining lands in the 80s and 90s. Les retired from farming in 2006 and moved to Grande Prairie to be closer to family, staying busy in his retirement by going to auction sales, doing handyman work and maintaining the family home and vehicles. Les enjoyed his years in Medicine Hat, serving at Hillcrest Evangelical Church as an usher and helped construct the present building by participating in the planning, ground preparation and carpentry process. He also enjoyed Saturday night golf, boating and spending time with friends.
Les was survived by his wife, Phyllis; sons, Montell (Michelle) and Morley (Christina); grandchildren, Sloane, Jaydon, Nevayeh and Tayanna Bayer; sisters, Eileen (Emil) Fritzler, Marilyn (Ed) Prusko, Donna (Jim) Mattheis and Lois (Brad) Lein as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Fredrich and Alice Bayer.

KENNETH “KEN” CHARLES MELBOURN December 12th, 1940 July 7th, 2024 Ken Melbourn passed away o July 7th, 2024, at the age of 83 years. He leaves to cherish his children, Joan (Randy) Simpson, Joyce (John) Lynn, Jean Greenwood, Wendy (Joe) Kenney, Kenny Melbourn and Michelle Meidinger; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. Ken was predeceased by his wife, Betty Melbourn; parents, Robert and Eva Melbourn.

SHIRLEY MOSS

August 15, 1935 ~ May 12, 2024
Mrs. Shirley Dawn Moss, beloved wife of the late Mr. Ralph Moss, passed away peacefully in Medicine Hat on Sunday, May 12, 2024, at the age of 88 years. Shirley was born in Upsalquitch, NB and attended the United Baptist Bible Training School in Moncton followed by the Jeffrey Hales Hospital School of Nursing in Quebec City. It was there that she met Ralph, the love of her life and in 1958, they were married in Hartland, NB. Shirley loved being a nurse and was a mentor and encourager to many who expressed interest in a nursing career. She worked at South Country Village for almost 30 years, first as a staff nurse and then as the Director of Nursing. Following retirement, Shirley continued her service there as a board member. She was a faithful follower of Jesus and a member of Temple Baptist Church. Shirley loved traveling, gardening, meeting new people and spending time with her family. She was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Shirley’s memory will be forever cherished in the hearts of her family: son, Robert (Karin) Moss; daughter, Margaret (Scott) Hennes; grandchildren, Megan Hennes, Lauren (Peter) Gil, Ethan (Emily) Hennes; great-grandsons, Moss and Owen; sisters, Ardith (Wayne) McLaughlin and Phyllis (Charles) Connell; sister-in-law, Ilse Fenwick as well as numerous nieces and nephews that she enjoyed keeping in touch with. She was predeceased by her sister, Ruth Stucki; brother, Murray Fenwick and brother-in-law, Arthur Stucki. A Memorial Service honouring Shirley’s life will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Friday, July 19, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Ed Lehman officiating. A time of fellowship will follow immediately thereafter in the Cook Southland Reception Facility. Shirley’s Memorial Celebration will be live streamed.
