BRIAN ASHWICK

BRIAN ASHWICK July 18, 1943 ~ June 13, 2024 It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of Brian William Ashwick, beloved husband of Arlene Ashwick. Brian passed away at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Thursday, June 13, 2024, at the age of 80 years. Besides his loving wife, Arlene, his memory will be cherished by his daughters, Corina (Glen) Hogan and Brenda Ashwick along with their mother, Erika Anderson; seven grandchildren, Ashley, Emma, Joshua, Liam, Austin, Allysa and Brandon and one great-granddaughter, Faye; Arlene’s children, Corinna (Dennis) Brown, Clayton (Tammy) Ulrich and Cameron (Brittany) Ulrich; step-grandchildren, Nolan, Sydney, Taylor, Colton, Madison, Jordan, Tyler, Blayke and Alyson and lastly, his trusted companion, Trish Dog. Brian was born on July 18, 1943, in Medicine Hat a son to William and Cora Ashwick. Following a long career in advertising, marketing and display, Brian retired to a lifelong hobby and passion in repairing and revitalizing antique radios and oil lamp collecting. He had a keen interest in current affairs and spent much time watching and reading informative programs. Brian will be deeply missed by his family and friends. A Celebration of Brian’s life will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street SW, Medicine Hat on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. with Dr. David Carter officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery. BRENDA JACOB

BRENDA JACOB 1950 ~ 2024 Brenda Beverley Jacob, loving wife of Jim, passed away at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at the age of 73 years. Along with Jim, left to remember Brenda are her children, Nicole, Scott (Lana), Jeff, Jonathon, Shennah, and Quinton; two grandchildren, Destiny and Dylan; siblings, Lorene (Lawrence), Sylvia (Will) and Bill (Veryl); Jim’s siblings, Tom (Janice), Janice (Tom) and Frances; long time friend, Jackie McLeod, aka ‘Louise’ as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Bev and Flo; Jim’s parents, Frank and Jean and her brother-in-law, Adolf. Brenda had a huge heart for kids as was evident through her role with Jim as foster parents for many years; even adopting four of the children that they cared for. Brenda was a kid at heart, playing practical jokes on people and always having a laugh at someone else’s expense… even up until her final days. Even though her health had deteriorated the last few years, Brenda always kept up her spirits and looked on the positive side of things. She was a hardworking woman who loved to socialize and spend time with her family and friends. Brenda’s favourite pastime was shopping… oh, could she shop! She will be deeply missed. She leaves to cherish her memory her partner, Steven Hackett; son, Jay Lattery; daughter, Melanie Wright; brother, Marvin (Marie) Lattery. Bonnie was predeceased by her parents, Ralph and Gladys Lattery; brother, Gordon Lattery and sister, Genevieve Straub.

1951 ~ SAMUEL HILLIER ~ 2024 Samuel “Sam” Hillier of Medicine Hat, passed away on Thursday, June 13th, 2024 at the age of 73 years. Sam leaves to cherish his memory his spouse. Gail Yellowega; sons, Terry (Candace) Hillier and Jason (Jennie) Hillier; grandchildren, Victoria “Tori”, Josie Banks-Hillier and Brenden Hillier; brothers, Angus (Clara) Hillier and Perry Hillier (Michelle); sisters, Sadie (Reg) Baker, Helen (Glen) Baker, Doreen (Alvin) Baker and Alvina (Bruce) Baker; Gail’s children, Cheryl (Cal) Aasman, Chris (Margie) Yellowega and Curtis Yellowega and their families; as well as numerous honourary sons, daughters, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Samuel was predeceased by his parents, Angus Hillier and Maude Price; and first spouse, Ann Hillier. Sam moved to Lethbridge in 1997 and then to Medicine Hat in 2005. Sam was a loving, kind and honest man who truly loved people, life and the great outdoors. He was quick to make a joke and make people laugh. He was a carpenter/cabinet maker and following his retirement he started his own contracting business. A private Graveside Service will be held. Mrs. Mary Kathleen Gallagher (West) passed away at the Rosedale Hospice in Calgary, AB., on Thursday, June 13, 2024, at the age of 91 years. Mary will be lovingly remembered by her family: children, Mark (Moira) Gallagher, Clare Gallagher and Paul (Joy) Gallagher; grandchildren, Laura Gallagher and Sheila (Trevor) Thompson; great-grandson, Noah Thompson; step-children, Raymond West, Maureen (John) Remus, Catherine (Frank) Buscholl, Nancy West and Joseph (Cindy) West; numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; siblings, Fr. Louis Brennan OFM, Gertrude Ball and Evelyn (Joe) Rickard. Mary was predeceased by her first husband, John Gallagher and second husband, Derek West; parents, Christopher and Genevieve Brennan and siblings, Deirdre O’Broin, Kevin Brennan, Carmel Dinan, Nuala Brennan and Donal Brennan. Mary was born in Dublin, Ireland on March 24, 1933. She immigrated to Canada and made her home in Medicine Hat in 1972. Mary enjoyed golfing as well as line dancing. She was an active member of the CWL, donating much of her time to the church as well as the many charitable causes supported by the church. She will be deeply missed. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, 238 – 2 Avenue N.E., Medicine Hat on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. with Father Vincent Tuan Ha celebrant. The mass will be live-streamed, those who cannot attend but wish to experience the mass may visit the Cook Southland website and select the View Broadcast button on the homepage at service time.
