LEO GEORGE SCHILE

LEO GEORGE SCHILE August 10th, 1957 – May 30th, 2024
It is with a heavy heart, Karen (nee Markell), loving wife of Leo George Schile, announces the passing of Leo after a short battle with cancer on Thursday, May 30th, 2024, at St. Joseph’s Home-Carmel Hospice. Leo is survived by his loving wife, Karen; daughter, Brandi Schile; daughter-in-law, Holly Knisley; grandchildren, Wyatt and Noelle Starlight-Cole; brothers, Don (Bonnie) Schile and Jack (Darlene) Schile; sisters, Dolores (John) Goguen and Leona (Leonard) Plouffe; Karen’s mother, Joan Markell; Karen’s sisters, Mary Anne (Bob) Kawaza and Gayle Brazier; brother-in-law, Brad Brown; his fur babies, Charlie, Yogi, Sid and Georgie; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by stepson, Tory Cole; dad and mom, Louie and Barbara Schile; brother, Clarence (Becky) Schile; father-in-law, Russell Markell; sister-in-law, Linda Brown; brother-in-law, Ron Brazier.
Leo was born in Medicine Hat on August 10,1957 and raised in the Maleb area where he attended Conquerville School. He helped his dad on the farm until they moved to Medicine Hat. He married Karen Markell on June 5,1992 and were happily married for 32 years. He worked at Ogilvie Flour Mills for 38 years. After retirement he enjoyed 10 years of what he loved-hunting, fishing, gardening, and was an awesome cook. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at St Joseph’s for the wonderful care Leo received there.
Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, June 6, 2024, at 1:30pm at the WYNDHAM Garden Conference Centre (954 7th St. SW, Medicine Hat).

LANNY WATT

LANNY WATT 1956 – 2024 Lanny James Watt passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 2, 2024, at the age of 68 years, beloved husband of Sandra Marie Watt of Medicine Hat. Besides his loving wife Sandra, Lanny is survived by his son Donavon (Christine) and two grandchildren Tianna and Rylan; his mother Marion Watt; one brother Len (Tammy) Watt and their children Brittany (Trever) Hayes and Tanner (Kelsey) Watt. He was predeceased by his father James Watt, parents-in-law Meinrad “Hank” and Christine Frey. Lanny was born on March 29, 1956, at Swift Current, Saskatchewan where he received his schooling. On October 5, 1974, he married Sandra Frey in Medicine Hat. Lanny worked as a heavy-duty mechanic on the pipeline. His hobbies were camping and fishing. Prior to his illness, Lanny could often be found working on one of his many projects. He stayed busy whether it was working on a vehicle, tinkering in the yard or cruising Golden Sheaf Campground in a golf cart. No matter what he was working on he had an incredible attention to detail; he was multi talented and inventive. Lanny loved spending time with his family and was incredibly proud of his two grandchildren. His family would like to thank the staff at St. Joseph’s Home for the care and compassion shown to him in his final days. As well, thank you to the staff of palliative care and home care. MARLENE SAUER 1953 – 2024 Following a 15 year long battle with Alzheimers, Marlene Christina Sauer passed away on Thursday, May 30, 2024, at the age of 71 years, beloved wife of Richard Sauer of Maleb, Alberta.

CLARENCE KNODEL

CLARENCE KNODEL June 30th, 1931 May 18th, 2024
Clarence Knodel went to be with his Lord and Saviour on May 18, 2024, at the age of 92 years. Clarence is survived by his loving wife Eleanor; three daughters; Judy (Rod) Andruckow, Carol (Blair) Hennes, Cindy (Jorge) DaRosa; and two sons; Lorne (Meredith) and Jeremy (Amanda); and by 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three brothers, Lawrence (June), Jim (Val), Albert (Gladys); his sister-in-law Doreen (Manny) Roth; brothers-in-law Reuben (Norma) Schmidt and Ken (Lorraine) Smith, and many nieces and nephews. Clarence was predeceased by his parents, Andrew and Elizabeth Knodel; Eleanor’s parents Adolf and Olga Schmidt; three brothers, Fred (Gladys), Bill (Mary), and Ben (Wynn); and two sisters, Rose (Art) Lehr and Marion (Del) Hadler; as well as sisters-in-law Irene (Steve) Mills and Ruth (Dave) Naismith) and brother-in-law Irvine (Terry) Smith.

Clarence was born in Irvine, Alberta, on June 30, 1931. He met Eleanor Schmidt at Hillcrest Christian College, and on November 13, 1954, they were married. They raised their five children on a farm west of Medicine Hat. Clarence drove school bus, farmed, and worked at Hillcrest Church. He also volunteered with the church camp and Prairie Gleaners for many years. Many also know him from his 25 years in the 55+ Men’s Slowpitch League. His last two years were spent at Masterpiece Southland Meadows. The family wishes to express utmost gratitude for each staff member who provided excellent care for him.

Clarence’s life was built on his faith and commitment to Jesus Christ, his family and friends, and service to others. He loved all his family’s many gatherings and celebrations and always made time to play with the grandkids and great grandkids. Clarence will be greatly missed by his dear wife, his family and all his friends but we rejoice that he is now in heaven with Jesus.

A memorial service for Clarence will be held at 1:00pm on June 7th at Hillcrest Church, 3785- 13 Ave SE Medicine Hat, and will also be live-streamed for those who cannot attend. In lieu of cards, we ask that you write a short note about how Clarence touched your life, which the family will put together in a memory book.
