IRENE PALMER
1929 – IRENE PALMER – 2024
Our gentle, kind & compassionate mom passed away in Medicine Hat, Alberta a few days after her 95th birthday, with her daughter by her side reminding her of the wonderful memories she created for her family & friends. Mom was the glue for our family. She loved us unconditionally, was an awesome listener, the best mother-in-law anyone could ask for, a devoted friend & always there for anyone in need. Mom cherished her family; sons, Jim (Shirley), Cam (Brenda), Brent-deceased (Darlene), and Tracy; her daughter, Nancy Dalgleish. Glen shared the same birthday as Irene and was like a son. Glenda, mother of Brent’s children. Mom was so proud of her 12 grandchildren & enjoyed seeing all the children they created & those children’s, children! Mom loved her little sister, Vera Salmon and her sister-in-law, Dorothy Smith. Mom was at the right age at the right time to begin a special connection with her nieces & nephews back when they were young adults & committing their shenanigans! Irene is reunited with her parents Bill and Ollie Smith, her loving husband, Bill; brother, Cliff and brother-in-law, George; Bills family: parents, Percy and Emily; sister, Elsie (Danny); brother, Jack (Audrey); brother, Len (Ina).
Being transferred by dad’s company they were often on the move, even during their retirement years they had a few moves. Mom was a prolific packer, planner and hands on creator! They frequently bought, renovated and sold homes in the same community before moving onto the next. The original house flippers! They built so many wonderful & lasting friendships throughout Manitoba, Ontario, Saskatchewan, BC and Alberta throughout their 68 years together.
Mom started curling in Saskatchewan when she had a young family & continued to curl in whatever province they lived in and enjoyed so many years of fun, regardless of wins or losses. She was a proud member of Medicine Hat Curling Cub and curled well into her 80’s. If Mom wasn’t on the ice herself, she was calling the shots behind the glass or watching every rock thrown on every televised game!
A celebration of life will be held for Mom at Saamis Memorial Funeral Chapel, #1 Dunmore Road SE, Medicine Hat, AB at 2PM on Thursday May 2,2024. If unable to attend, family and friends can be granted private livestream permission by contacting the funeral home.
