FLORENCE MARGARET LAFFERTY

LAFFERTY, FLORENCE MARGARET (NEE PETERSON) December 29, 1930 March 8, 2024
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Marg Lafferty, at the age of 93 years, on Friday, March 8, 2024, in Calgary, AB.
Marg was born on December 29, 1930, in Richmound, SK, to John and Agda Peterson. She was a special gift as she was the youngest child, and only daughter, in a family of four boys. Mom spent her childhood in the village of Rosemary, AB.
Mom is now reunited with her parents and four brothers, Birger, George, Erik, and Gordon; and her youngest son Patrick. She will always be loved and cherished by her daughter, Debbie Ireland (Darryl Weir), son Mark Lafferty (Kelly), and two grandchildren, Patrick and Kathleen.
After being a “stay-at-home” mom until her children were adults, she moved to Medicine Hat and finished her career as an administrative secretary for the City of Medicine Hat in the Electric Department. Mom’s most important work, however, was being a mom. She was fiercely proud of each of her children and encouraged them to pursue their passions. She often went without in order to provide for them. She was an amazing cook and particularly enjoyed baking, doing jigsaw puzzles, visiting and sharing stories with family and friends, golfing, and playing board games. Mom loved all animals, particularly cats. She was very compassionate toward those less fortunate and took every opportunity to help them.
Mom was active until shortly before her passing. She was comfortable about her impending death and was looking forward to being reunited with her family members who predeceased her.
She gave so much to us, expressing her love every day. We will always remember her, and her memory will be a blessing as we move forward without her physical presence in our lives. Rest in peace, Mom. We will always love you.
