It is with heavy hearts that the family of Mrs. Freda Edel, beloved wife, of the late Mr. Benjamin Edel, announce her passing at River Ridge Seniors Village in Medicine Hat, on Thursday, August 24, 2023, at the age of 92 years. Freda was born August 29, 1930, in Emerson, Manitoba to Jonathan and Miriam Edel. On November 28, 1953, she married Benjamin Edel at the East Olds Baptist Church Parsonage in Olds, Alberta. Freda and Ben attended Temple Baptist Church in Medicine Hat for many years. She worked and enjoyed being a waitress, with Phil’s Restaurant in Medicine Hat serving as one of her places of employment. Freda was a hardworking, warm, caring and loving mother. Everything she did was out of devotion to her family. She was a very kind and selfless person, always putting others before herself. Freda was also fun loving and had a humorous side about her. As for sports, she enjoyed watching NHL hockey with her children. Freda had an amazing green thumb… She loved gardening and grew many fruits and vegetables as well as flowers and trees on their acreage. Freda also excelled at cooking and baking; she baked the best apple pie! Things most memorable for Freda would have been the births of her grandchildren, family gatherings at Christmas time and summer vacation visits with her children. Freda was so very proud of her family, and the five children she helped raise. She will be lovingly remembered by her four daughters, Judy Olson, Edwina Edel, Gwendolyn Edel Drake, Andrea Edel; sons-in-law, Ken Olson and Mark Drake; three grandchildren, Joshua Olson, Charlotte Edel and Rachel Edel; two great-grandchildren, Wyatt Edel and Evelyn Edel as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A private family interment will be held at a later date at the East Olds Baptist Church Cemetery near Olds, Alberta, where Freda’s cremated remains will be placed to rest next to her late husband, Benjamin.
