THERESIA GERTNER

THERESIA GERTNER
November 30, 1929 ~ August 5, 2023

Theresia Clara Gertner passed away peacefully at River Ridge Seniors Village in Medicine Hat on Saturday, August 5, 2023, at the age of 93 years.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Gloria Gertner, Peggy Crouch, Gladys Bohnet, Phyllis (Marcel) Berube, Harold (Tana), Gertner, Marilyn Donaldson (Eric Stilles), Dale (Tammy) Gertner and Doug (Shannon) Gertner; grandchildren: April Albrecht, Teresa Hansen, Shawn Bohnet, Logan Gertner, Dallas Dutchik, Monty Gertner, Amber Bennett, Tim Donaldson, Adam Gertner, Jordan Gertner, Justin Gertner and Layne Gertner; 17 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. She will always be remembered by her nieces and nephews – especially her sister, Mary’s kids who frequently visited her.
Theresia was predeceased by 10 siblings; the father of her children, Philip Gertner; two brothers-in-law, Paul and Chris; two grandchildren, Michael Donaldson and Kelvin Meier; two sons-in-law, Stan Crouch and Lorne Webster.
Theresia was born to Margaretha and Joseph Buettner in the Rosenthal area. She started her married life on the farm in Fox Valley however, after ten years decided to move to Medicine Hat. Theresia was always busy cooking, baking, canning, cleaning and sewing. She also had a talent for painting and could paint a room without using any tape!
Theresia later moved to other various towns before ending up in Canal Flats, B.C. She lived there for 15 years and worked at Fairmont Hot Springs Resort the entire time. She made a lot of friends but always talked of the Hat.
When Theresia moved back to the Hat, her health began to fail as she suffered a serious brain aneurysm. She was never expected to survive but through determination, she made it back to independent living.
She loved playing cards and taught the grandkids how to play and play to win! Bingo was another passion for Theresia. She was still doing puzzles, cards, and bingo in her final week of her life.
Health issues continued with Alzheimer’s setting in and she had been living in various care homes. For the last five years she resided at River Ridge Seniors Village where some of the staff treated her like gold. Thank you from all of us! Living to 93 years of age is a big achievement especially when you consider all of the obstacles she overcame. Mom finally got her wings… no more wheelchair!
Mom was cremated with dignity and her memory will be silently remembered by family and friends.
