EDNA LUTZ

EDNA LUTZ April 23, 1934 – July 3, 2023
On July 3, 2023, Edna Lutz received her angel wings. At the age of 89, Edna passed away in her sleep. She is now reunited with her husband, Elmer, whom she has, so dearly, missed since his passing in 2010.

Edna was a wife, mom, grandma and great-grandma who will be deeply missed. She will be fondly remembered as being the biggest cheerleader at her kids and grandkids hockey and baseball games. Edna LOVED her family; she could never get enough of them. The more you visited and the more you called, the happier she was. She also loved her sports, curling and the Toronto Blue Jays kept her entertained in her later years.

Edna was born to Gottlieb and Matilda Debler on April 23rd, 1934, in Medicine Hat and was the second youngest of nine children. On August 12, 1955, Edna married Elmer Lutz and they enjoyed 55 years of marriage. Through those 55 years the two of them were blessed with a successful business and 5 children. Edna worked at Dominion Glass and then devoted herself to being a full time mom, one of the jobs she cherished the most. Edna was a great cook and was well known for her homemade fries and stew and strudels. Through the years, Edna was Elmer’s right hand woman. The two of them did everything together, side by side. A couple of things that the two of them were most proud of, aside from their family, was the cabin they built in Elkwater and their dream home they built on an acreage south of Medicine Hat. Five years after Elmer passed away Edna suffered a stroke. After the stroke Edna was unable to move back to her home as she required more care. Even though she had to move to an assisted living facility she still made the best of life. At the Wellington, Edna found some new friends and was reacquainted with some old ones. She looked forward to her card nights, listening to music and her nightly visits from Yvonne or Marla who went above and beyond to connect with Edna. In December of 2022, Edna was assessed as needing more care and Meadow Ridge became her new home where she lived until her passing. She was a one of a kind lady who had a witty sense of humor. Edna was also strong, brave, courageous, resilient, kind, caring, thoughtful, impatiently patient, apologetic and very loving. She will be dearly missed by her family and all who knew and loved her.

Edna lived a good life, the memories of her will be cherished forever and she will live on in the hearts of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren: son, Kelly (Cathy) Lutz and their family: Tyler (Laura) and their children, Deacon & Aubrey, Candice (Colin) Fuller and their children, Avery, Harper & Asher, Mariah (Tyson) Erb and their daughter, Sutton, Nicole (Mitch) Board and their daughter, Sloane, Tanner (Cassidy); son, Blaine (Carrie) Lutz and their family: Justin & Joel (Mellissa) and their daughter, Isabella; daughter, Jennifer (Wade) Rockabar and their family: Jessie (Tyler) Henry and their daughter, Paisley, Chance (Tamara) and their children, Katie & Jameson and Kimberley Rockabar and her children, Dayzen & Quinten; son, Keith (Debbie) Lutz and family: Keaton (Amber) and their son, Stetson, Konner and Kaid; daughter, Nancy (Mike) Vander Heiden and their family, Dylan, Madison and Mackenzie. Edna was predeceased by her husband, Elmer; parents, brothers and sisters and one grandson, Cole Vander Heiden.

The family would like to send their special thanks to Dr. Doug Mastel for the years of care that he provided to Edna and to the staff at the Wellington and Meadow Ridge, thank you, for helping to make Edna’s time with you the most enjoyable that it could be.

We do believe that God above
Created us for you to love.
He chose you out of all the rest
Because he knew you’d love us best.
Thank you for loving us.
Give Dad, Grandpa, Great Grandpa a hug from all of us.
Till we meet again…

He is survived by:

Ben (Sabrina deceased) and his children Kali-Rae, Morgan, Jayde and Liam
Karen (Richard) and their children Callista and Talia
Katie (Jesse) and their children Rylie, Roland and Arthur
Nancy (George) and their children:

Kelly (Sonya) and their children Landon and Jamie
Daniel (Lisa)
Howard (Roxanne) and children Crystal (Faith Ann and Lanlee) and Tyler
Violet (Ron) and children Jasmine (Robert) and Quinlan
Jack Wong was born in Toison, Canton, China on June 29th,1927 to parents George and Shee.
He immigrated to Canada in 1955, alone, without his wife, Lan, and his three children Ken, Nancy, and Daniel. He remained in Canada for 10 years and during that time, he worked at the B.C. Café with his parents, and brother, Chuck.
After the government re-opened immigration again, Jack was finally reunited with his family. About a year later, Howard was born, and the family moved to Gull Lake, Saskatchewan, where they bought a restaurant. In Gull Lake, they had their daughter, Violet.
The business thrived and in 1980 he had an opportunity to go to Cypress Hills to open a new restaurant with two partners. During that time, Ken and his family moved back to Gull Lake to help run the family business. In 1982, Ken moved back to Calgary, the business was sold, and Jack moved to Maple Creek with the rest of the family.
During the summer, Jack and his partners ran the restaurant in the park but then in 1983 he formed a new partnership and bought the Esso station at the junction of 1 and 21. They ran it for a couple of years and then sold that business.
Another partnership was formed to build what is known today as “The Resort at Cypress Hills”.
At the age of 75, he decided to give retirement a try and he and mom remained in Maple Creek. They loved to travel and saw many places. He also enjoyed sightseeing, golfing and casino-ing. What he loved best was winning at mahjong. Even though his mind slowed, when it came to mahjong, he was sharp as a tack.
He had the privilege of watching all his children become successful adults and enjoyed watching his grandchildren grow.
He was widowed in 2011, but continued to live in his own house until he was 94. Then as old age snuck up on him, he moved to Paradise Pines in the long-term care home.
He passed away peacefully in his sleep with his family by his side on July 3rd 2023, just days after his 96th birthday.

DARLENE SCHOCK

DARLENE SCHOCK 1941 – 2023
It is with very heavy hearts we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, sister, auntie and friend, Darlene Schock of Medicine Hat, Alberta, beloved wife of the late George Schock. Darlene passed away on Monday, July 3, 2023, at the age of 81 years. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughters, Patty (Dennis) Klemchuk of Fairview, Alberta, Cheryl Schock (Jay Savage) of Cranbrook, BC and Bonnie Schock of Dunmore, Alberta; grandchildren, Brandon Maser of Toronto, Ontario, Chelsea (Josiah) Smith of Medicine Hat, Curtis (Tanya) White of Mayerthorpe, Alberta and Addison Clark of Dunmore; Curtis and Addison’s father, Clint Clark of Medicine Hat; great grandchildren, Hazel, Lane and Bennett White of Mayerthorpe and Elise Maser of Toronto; sisters, Marlys (Jim) Frank of Medicine Hat and Judy (Pat) Nieman of Edmonton, Alberta; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, John and Florence Schock and Marlene Schock of Medicine Hat; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families, and a community of friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Louise and Frank Nobel; her mother and father-in-law, John and Dorothy Schock; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Irene and Victor Schneidmiller, Bill and Ilene Schock, Carl and Jean Schock, and Donald Schock.

Darlene was raised in Manyberries and later the Thelma area of Cypress Hills, Alberta where she went to school and worked with her parents at the family farm, grocery store, gas station and post office. She met and married George at a young age, and the two of them took to working very hard to create their own family farm and ranch in that same area and raise three daughters, Patty, Cheryl and Bonnie. Despite long days helping George in the fields and working cattle, Darlene still found time every year to grow and harvest a large garden, pick berries, milk cows, and raise chickens, all of which helped her make the most incredible meals and delicious baking that was sought after by many. A bit later in life she shared that cooking talent when she worked at Elkwater’s restaurant, ski hill, and golf course. Darlene took great pride in her homemaking abilities to create and keep a tidy home and pretty it up with her own crafty abilities of sewing, painting, crocheting, and knitting. Along with her many other talents, Darlene was also musical and often played the accordion and sang alongside George who played the guitar and banjo for family and friends. And although some may never admit it, she was also known to win a few spontaneous foot races that happened in the wee hours after brandings.
Darlene will be remembered as a fun, honest, loving, determined, hardworking and independent woman. Her contagious smile, sincerity and friendship will certainly be missed by all who knew and loved her including family, friends, and neighbors.
