CORPORAL T. ALAN HARINK
HARINK Corporal T. Alan Harink, RCMP, Retired, beloved father of Kim Skin (Julian), and Jason Harink (Irene), passed away in Brooks, AB on Monday, April 10, 2023 at the age of 70. Alan was born on June 7, 1952 in Lethbridge, AB to John and Johanna (Huisman) Harink and lived in the Winnifred and Bow Island, AB areas until 1981. Professionally, Al was a dedicated worker for CP Rail, Island Implements, and the County of Forty Mile during his early life in Southern Alberta. Then, in 1981, Alan achieved his long-time goal of becoming an RCMP officer; proudly serving for 25 years in Penticton, BC and Dawson Creek, BC. During these years some of his many interests included being President of the Dawson Creek Rope and Saddle Club, as well as being an executive at the Dawson Creek Golf and Country Club. In 2005, Alan retired from the RCMP and returned to his roots in Southern Alberta, taking up residence in Brooks. Although officially retired, Al continued working in Brooks until 2015 with McConnell Welding/Clearstream Energy as an Operations Manager. Following his second retirement, Alan enjoyed having more time to ride his Gold Wing motorcycle with his fellow Blue Knights Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club and special lady Marcie Montean. He was also a proud member of the RCMP Veterans Association and the Royal Canadian Legion. Alan always said that his greatest accomplishment was being a father and grandfather; or, Papa, as he was known to them. Alan is survived by his daughter, Kim, her husband Julian Skin and their four children: Dane (Elyse), Cael, Teagan, and Lachlan of Dawson Creek, BC. He is also survived by his son, Jason, his wife Irene and their three children: Moses, Eli, and Ruby of Santa Rosa, CA, USA. Alan was predeceased by his brother John Harink of Brooks, AB and is survived by his siblings: Ann Staughton (Tom Wozniak) of Bow Island, AB, Robert Harink of Cochrane, AB, Keith Harink (Debbie) of Brooks, AB, and wife of John, Nora Harink of Brooks, AB. Alan is also survived by former wife and the mother of their children, Elaine (Lerner) Harink of Medicine Hat, AB. Al was also the proud uncle of many special nieces and nephews. Special heart felt thank you goes out to the amazing and caring staff at the Brooks Health Centre, all the friends and family that visited him during his final days, and the many wonderful people who have reached out during this sad time. A Celebration of Life is planned for Alan between 2 to 5 pm on Saturday, June 10, 2023 at: Royal Canadian Legion, 235 3 St W., Brooks, AB. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, donations can be made directly to the Brooks Legion, 235-3rd St. W, Brooks, Alberta T1R 1B8 or the Brooks Health Centre, Bag 300, Brooks, Alberta T1R 1B3 in his name.
