WENDY MAY INSKO

WENDY MAY INSKO September 21, 1964 April 7, 2023 It is with unimaginable sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Wendy Insko. She was a partner, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother and friend, and she was loved. Wendy was predeceased by her dad, Butch, in November 2022. She is survived by her partner, Dean Dinning; mother, Bonnie Insko; daughter, Brandi Pederson; grandchildren, Presley and Paisley Pederson; brother, Steve Insko; sister, Kim Insko; and Dean’s children, Kyla and Kallyn and their families. She will also be remembered in the highest regard and missed dearly by her many friends and clients. Her furry buddies Hank and Rosie will miss the fetch and cuddles at the farm. Wendy’s biggest joy was her grandchildren, with whom she spent countless hours. Sports, dance, visits, shopping and tending to those “damn” cats were among their adventures together. The girls will miss her deeply and will cherish all the time spent with Gramma Wendy. Wendy’s partner Dean was her greatest love and he loved her back just as hard. The vacations, weekends out at Rattlesnake, RV and bike trips will forever be changed. We are eternally grateful for his unwavering support to Wendy and the family. The family would like to express our deepest gratitude and thanks to the people and medical staff that gave Wendy the most amazing care during her short illness. She was bathed in love, light and warmth and we will be forever thankful for that blessing. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations would be welcomed by Alberta Pound and Rescue Centre (APARC), 1002 South Railway Street SW, Medicine Hat, AB T1A 2W2 or the Alberta Children’s Hospital, 2888 Shaganappi Trail NW, Calgary, Alberta, T3B 6A8. BOB STAPLES

BOB STAPLES April 25, 1930 ~ April 15, 2023
Robert Stanley Staples (Bob) passed away peacefully at Meadow Ridge Seniors Home in Medicine Hat on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at the age of 92 years. Bob was one of three children born in Empress on April 25, 1930, the other two being a sister, Norma and a brother, Stanford. Yes, triplets at the beginning of the great depression. Unfortunately, Stanford died in infancy, but Bob and Norma had a close connection, speaking their own language that no one else understood. Bob attended Viewfield School which was a mile away; a walk he did many times and continued to do well into his seventies long after the school was gone. He then went on to high school in Medicine Hat and Tech in Calgary, but by this time he had two loves – farming and Chris. The farm he could buy, but she took some courting. Perseverance paid off and a few years later he had a new bride and a Social Plains farm. Four children arrived and with a move up the road to the Staples’ homestead, came a brand new house and a new baby. Bob was a farmer and cattleman with a love for all animals. Years went by, kids left for university and second eldest son, Murray bought uncle Cecil’s farm just a short walk from home. Murray suffered spinal injury in 1978, but eventually was able to live pretty independently in his bachelor shack. Bob’s morning routine consisted of feeding calves in the winter, gardening in summer, and feeding barn cats followed by having coffee with Mur. This was repeated in the afternoon with rum replacing the coffee. Dad had a good life by his own account with a loving wife Christine for 62 years, good friends and family with many get togethers and laughs. Bob became Catholic before marrying Chris and as the years went by, his faith grew stronger. In fact, he was known to do a little preaching himself when he got a few rums in him. The highlight of his Catholic faith was a pilgrimage to Our Lady of Medjugorje. Bob will be sadly missed by his children: Blaine (Leona), Glenda (Allen), Rob and David (Jacquie); grandchildren, great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and good friends. He was predeceased by his wife, Christine; son, Murray; parents, Stan and Mary; brother, Roland; sisters, Beth and Norma and two infant siblings. The family would like to thank the staff at Meadow Ridge for their care they provided to Bob during his time there. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so starting one hour prior to the Vigil Prayers which will be recited at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Sunday, April 23, 2023, at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will be offered again starting one hour prior to the Funeral Mass which will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, 238 – 2 Avenue N.E., Medicine Hat on Monday, April 24, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. with Father Roque Pereira celebrant. Interment will take place in the Empress Cemetery on Tuesday, April 25, 2023. MARY MADELINE KULTGEN

MARY MADELINE KULTGEN 1930 2023
On a calm spring morning of April 18, 2023, with the sun shining and her children by her side, Mary Madeline Kultgen peacefully passed away at the age of 93.
Madeline was born February 18, 1930, in Lethbridge Alberta. She was the only daughter of Marcella and Phillip Skroch, a devoted wife, a loving mother of six, a cherished grandmother and a beloved great gramma.
Madeline was a proud, life-long, community member of Foremost, Alberta and she was involved in many organizations through the years – most notably the CWL of OLPH. Madeline dedicated her life to supporting and building her family’s farming operation; tirelessly working alongside her husband for many years doing everything from marking for Ken when he was aerial spraying, to shovelling barley out of the barn while Ken was gone hunting, to feeding the whole harvest crew for many years with the help of her daughters and eventually her daughters-in-law.
Madeline’s home was as welcoming as her smile. Madeline and Ken loved to host family and friends for dinners that turned into living room concerts. They enjoyed few things more than playing music to entertain guests or alone together each evening. She never missed an opportunity to socialize with her family, to find an encouraging word, or to have a good time. Be it playing cards, dancing the night away at her grandkids’ weddings, or simply riding out to the farm to enjoy touring the crops, for Madeline it was about being present. Her approach to life was inspirational to all who knew her, as she was positive and gracious, using humour to embrace the challenges of life and transcending hardships with the most beautifully humble strength.
Madeline is survived by four children, Colleen Kultgen, Phillip Kultgen and partner Dennis Schott, Ken and Kim (Ward) Kultgen, Marcell (Kultgen) and Randy Warnock; 15 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents Marcella (Sullivan) Skroch and Phillip Skroch;, her brother John Skroch; her sons Clifford Kultgen and Calvin Kultgen; her daughter-in-law Darlene (Schnieder) Kultgen; and her loving husband of 59 years, Ken Kultgen Sr.
As we say goodbye to the matriarch of our family, we will keep her legacy alive in the moments we choose kindness, compassion and grace.
If anyone would like to join the family in Prayers for Madeline, the service will be held at 7:00 pm, on Friday April 21, 2023 at the OUR LADY OF PERPETUAL HELP CATHOLIC CHURCH in Foremost Alberta.
A Private Family Funeral Service and burial will take place on Saturday April 22, 2023.
To honor Madeline’s memory, the family requests that donations be made to the Foremost Community Hall in lieu of flowers. There are several ways to make a donation:
