CASEY STIGTER

CASEY STIGTER June 2, 1934 ~ February 11, 2023
Casey Stigter, beloved husband of the late Jenny Stigter, passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Home – Carmel Hospice in Medicine Hat on Saturday, February 11, 2023, at the age of 88 years. Casey leaves to cherish his memory two sons, Harry (Audrey) and Don (Ingrid); seven grandchildren, Jeff (Michelle) Stigter, Michelle (Tim) van der Hoek, Alison (Kevin) Stonehouse, Amanda (David) Vandyk, Ashley (Jorik) Langeweg, Sheldon (Braunwyn) Stigter and Amber Stigter (Tyler) as well as eleven great-grandchildren. Casey is also survived by his brothers, Harry (Diane) and Pete; sister-in-law, Alice Stigter; Jenny’s sisters, Mary Vander Kwaak and Rene Thompson and sister-in-law, Netty Prins. Along with Jenny, Casey was predeceased by a newborn son in 1962, parents, Arie and Maria Stigter; brother, Lane and sisters, Audrey, Martha and Rhea. Casey was born on June 2, 1934, to Arie and Maria Stigter in Honselersdijk, Netherlands and in 1951, the Stigter family immigrated to Taber where he worked as a farm hand. In 1956, Casey met the love of his life, Jenny Prins and they were married in 1957. In 1961, they built their first greenhouse. In 1966, Casey, along with nine other greenhouse growers, started Red-Hat Co-op. He was very proud of what the Co-op meant to the growers and of what it had become including the success it still is to this day. In 1982, Casey was instrumental in starting AGGA (Alberta Greenhouse Growers Association) which was also an organization he was proud of. He was a lifelong member of the Christian Reformed Church where he enjoyed playing his trumpet for many services. After retirement in 1989, Casey and Jenny spent many a winter either on a cruise ship or pulling the trailer south to Sky Valley RV Park in California. Casey’s life will be celebrated at the Christian Reformed Church, 300 Primrose Drive S.E., Medicine Hat, on Friday, April 14, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor George Koopmans officiating. ALLAN JAMES THOME October 22, 1954 April 2, 2023 It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Allan James Thome. He leaves to cherish his memory his son, Sean, his brothers Perry (Debbie) and their family and Clarence (Vicki) and their family. He was predeceased by his parents John and Eva Thome.
Allan was a passionate man who always stood up for what he believed in. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family. He was loved by many and will be missed until we can be together again. Rest in peace Allan. Your journey on this Earth has come to an end.

It is with deep sadness that her family wishes to announce the loss of Clare, beloved wife, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin and friend. Clare passed suddenly and peacefully at the age of 95 in her residence at the Haven in South Country Village, Medicine Hat, Alberta, in the company of her family.

Clare was married to her loving husband, Alfred William (Bill) for 55 years until his passing February 10, 2022.

Clare taught with the Calgary Board of Education and additional Country Schools in Saskatchewan for 41 years. She was a member of the Alberta Teacher’s Association, as well as the Retired Teacher’s Association. Clare was a very active member of the Catholic Women’s League in Victoria, Calgary and Medicine Hat.

Clare is survived by sister, Betty (Peter†) Scherger; brothers Raymond (Helen) Wagner, Pius (Velva†) Wagner; numerous Wagner nieces and nephews; as well as Blore and Cook cousins in Canada and England.

Clare was predeceased by her parents, Lucas and Filomena Wagner; husband, Bill; sisters, Katherine (Peter) Schmaltz, (Rudy) Schmidt and Lorraine (Adam) Ries; and brothers, Anthony (Bernice) Wagner and Joseph (Erma) Wagner.

Clare’s family wishes to thank the staff at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital for extending an exceptional level of care during Clare’s brief stay.

Thank you to the staff of the Haven, South Country Village where Clare found and enjoyed her new home and an amazing staff that was like family to her.

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church 238 2nd Ave NE, Medicine Hat, Alberta on Friday, April 14, 2023 starting at 9:45 am. The eulogies and Funeral Mass will follow at 10:40 am, with Father Roque Pereira, Celebrant and Father Francis Tran, Concelebrant. A reception in the Parish Hall will immediately follow the service. Interment will take place in the Leader Cemetery, Leader, Saskatchewan, later that day.

ROD SEITZ 1939 – 2023 Rod (Rodney) Seitz of Medicine Hat, beloved husband of the late Loretta Seitz, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 5th, 2023, at the age of 83 years. Rod leaves to cherish his memory one son, Kelly (Tracey) Seitz; two grandchildren, Jamie (Jon) Schigol and Mason Seitz; one great-grandchild arriving very soon, Jon Mason Schigol; three sisters, Janice (Gary), Elaine (late, Don), Donna (late, Albert); and one brother, Randy (Sharon). Rod was predeceased by his wife, Loretta Seitz (May 2015); his son, Danny (April 2003); his parents Fred and Cora Seitz; and Loretta’s parents, Bertha and Lave Rieger. Rod was born in Medicine Hat and raised on the family farm at Little Plume. While still living on the Seitz family farm, Rod met the love of his life Loretta at the Elkwater stampede grounds, and they were later married on November 7, 1959. Rod and Loretta lived on the Seitz family farm at Little Plume for a few years where their first son, Kelly was born. Soon after they moved to Medicine Hat where their second son, Danny was born. In 1967, Rod and Loretta moved to Swift Current and opened a dry-cleaning business. They returned to their roots and families in Medicine Hat in 1978 where Rod owned and operated an overhead door store along with a rug laying business. In retirement Rod worked part-time at the Crestwood car wash. Rod and Loretta enjoyed socializing at the Medicine Hat Moose Lodge with friends, playing slot machines at the casino, listening to country music, camping, fishing, and golfing.
Rod had a special place in his heart for his grandchildren and loved spending time with them. Family and friends who wish to pay their respects may do so at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME on Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. A private graveside service will be held at Hillside Cemetery on Friday, April 14, 2023 with Life Celebrant David Townsend officiating.
