MARJORIE MARGARET STURM
1944 – MARJORIE MARGARET STURM – 1944
Marjorie Margaret Sturm of Medicine Hat, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 9th, 2023 at the age of 78 years. Marjorie leaves to cherish her memory her two sons Robert and Brian (Trena) Sturm and her grandchildren, Marcus (Ali) and Joe (Kelli) Rosner. She was predeceased by her parents, Robert and Lydia Deering and brother, Ralph (May Ann) Deering. Our beloved mother and grandmother was born in Medicine Hat on October 24th, 1944. She lived on the family farm with her mother and father, Robert and Lydia Deering, and brother, Ralph. She attended school at Woolchester, Saddle Horse and Antelope Cut until grade 9. Growing up she loved to ride horses. After school she worked on the farm for a few years, then went to Medicine Hat to look for work. She worked in a greenhouse for awhile before the boss’s wife was hospitalized and she was asked to take care of their four boys and cooking meals for the family. When the boss’s wife returned home, Marge moved on to find other work. She was hired at the Husky restaurant as a cook for a few years and then moved to the Shell restaurant where she owned and operated the kitchen for two years. When Rob was born she sold the restaurant and went back to the farm until it was sold about a year later. Brian was born and she moved to town and bought her own house. She accepted a job working for Schlenker Auction sales and was given the opportunity to run her own cafeteria during the farm and household sales and cattle auctions. She ran her business for 15 years. She would work long hours preparing meals, baking pies, stocking pop and snacks and ordering other food to prepare the cafeteria for the sales. She hired two wonderful ladies, Barbara and Ann, and it would develop into long lasting friendships. When the cafeteria business finished, mom found her final and permanent job at the brand new Trukkers restaurant as a short order cook. She worked there for 25 years until the age of 65 years. She was loved by her boss, the staff and the customers. Mom became the “First lady of Trukkers.” After retirement, mom’s health started to decline. She had a heart attack followed by kidney failure, which resulted in her starting dialysis which eventually resulted in her having her legs amputated. After the first amputation, she was forced to sell her home and move into the Wellington Seniors lodge. She loved the lodge and appreciated the great care she received from the staff. Mom loved bowling, gardening and her local news. She truly loved her two boys who were her whole life. She did whatever she could to provide a great life for them. She raised two strong, hardworking, and independent boys. During her life she made a positive impact on the lives of her family, friends, co-workers and those who knew her.
