WAYNE FRIESEN
WAYNE FRIESEN 1952 ~ 2023 Wayne Garry Friesen passed away in the Sunnyview Care Centre at South Country Village in Medicine Hat on Friday, January 6, 2023, at the age of 70 years. Wayne is survived by his son, Thomas; siblings, Wendy (Vern) Hrenyk, Rae Kunze (Hank Tessier) and Larry Friesen; nieces and nephews, Jody, Kristy, Amy, Cindy, Christine, Chartotte, Carolynne, Kelly, Karla, Megan and Jacob. He was predeceased by his parents as well as one brother, Brian. Wayne was born to Abram and Ruth Friesen in Winnipeg, Manitoba on November 16, 1952. He travelled extensively throughout his life, finding work as a commercial artist each place he went. He eventually settled in Medicine Hat where failing health required his eventual move in the Sunnyview Care Centre at South Country Village. OSTER ANHORN
1924 ~ OSTER ANHORN ~ 2022 Oster Anhorn of Medicine Hat, passed away on Friday, December 9th, 2022 at the age of 98 years. Oster leaves to cherish his memory his sisters, Alice Stickle and Frieda Gehring. Sadly, Frieda also passed away just six days after Oster. Also left to cherish Oster’s memory are numerous nieces, nephews and his Masterpiece family. Oster was predeceased by his parents, Emanuel and Katharina Anhorn; and six brothers. Oster was always happy and smiling, he loved to chat, visit, sing and listen to music. He participated as much as possible in many activities, right up to the age of 98. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed many camping trips with the family. Oster’s happiest times were spending time going to celebrations and parties with family and friends. Oster was loved and looked after by the entire family. The family would like to give thanks from the bottom of our hearts for all the care and love that Uncle Oster received at Masterpiece. We know you will miss him as well. A Celebration of Life for both Oster and his sister, Frieda Gehring, will be held at SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL, #1 Dunmore Road SE on Saturday, January 14th, 2023 at 2:00 pm with Pastor Jamie McDonald officiating. FRIEDA GEHRING
1932 ~ FRIEDA GEHRING ~ 2022 Frieda Katharina Gehring of Medicine Hat, beloved wife of the late Leonard Gehring, passed away on Thursday, December 15th, 2022 at the age of 90 years. Frieda leaves to cherish her memory her son, Greg (Darlynne) Gehring; daughters, Debbie (Vic) Simmons, Cheryl (Al) Kessler, and Kim (Gilles) Brazeau; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Alice Stickle; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and her Masterpiece family. Frieda was predeceased by her husband, Leonard Gehring; parents, Emanuel and Katharina Anhorn; as well as her seven brothers. Frieda was born in the Hatton, SK area and moved to Medicine Hat at 13 years old. Frieda operated a private kindergarten for 20 years. She also volunteered at AHS and in palliative care for 20 years. Len and Frieda were very active and enjoyed travelling and cruises. Frieda sang in choirs, line danced, curled, and watched curling. She loved to socialize, visit, dance, play cards, and board games. She lived in Masterpiece and enjoyed meeting new people. The family would like to give thanks from the bottom of our hearts for all the care and love that Mom received at Masterpiece. We know you will miss her as well. WAYNE SYVERSON
WAYNE SYVERSON 1938 – 2023 Wayne passed away on Saturday January 7, 2023, at Masterpiece Retirement Home. He is survived by his loving wife Reva (nee Foulston), son Jay Lee and his wife Gail, granddaughter Carisa (Jordan) Wilson, grandson Chayse (Kristina) Rembowski; two great grandchildren Walker Wilson and Calvin Rembowski. Surviving brothers are Lorne (Glenda) Syverson and Keith Syverson; brother-in-law Harold Niebergall (husband of Wayne’s deceased sister Grace).
Wayne was born in Pontiac, Michigan and the family moved shortly after to the Vale, Alberta area where Wayne’s father farmed with his brother, Doc Syverson. Wayne attended Rush Lake School grades 1-8 then moved to the Division 4 High School Dormitory for grades 9-12. Here he met his future wife Reva Foulston…he moved to Edmonton where he enrolled in an apprenticeship for a craftsman in steel and reinforced concrete. Reva and Wayne married in 1957. A few years later Wayne and Reva bought a ranch near Bowell. Later they moved to a ranch near Nemiskam, then Seven Persons then Manyberries.
Wayne enjoyed calf roping in his earlier years and eventually included team roping to his resume. He travelled to rodeos across Montana, Alberta and Saskatchewan. He was known as a very consistent roper and his trophy case proves it with numerous buckles and saddles that were won. He also had a passion for riding good rope, ranch horses and looking at a field of good cattle. He also enjoyed branding season and the camaraderie of fellow ranchers as well as playing horseshoes and a good crib game.
Wayne suffered from Alzheimer’s for several years. He moved into masterpiece in 2020. He enjoyed his stay there until his peaceful passing; being well looked after by such great staff.
The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Thursday, January 12, 2023, at 1:30 p.m. with Life Celebrant Pat Grisonich officiating. Those who wish to remember Wayne with a donation may do so to the charity of your choice. To leave a message of condolence you may visit

ANNE PLANTE January 4, 1939 ~ January 6, 2023 It is with a heavy heart that Lawrence ‘Larry’ Plante announces his beloved wife of 66 years, Anne Theresa Plante, passed away in Medicine Hat on Friday, January 6, 2023, at the age of 84 years. Along with Larry, Anne leaves to cherish her memory: son, Thomas (Wanda) Plante; daughter, Catherine (Geoffrey) Ringrose; grandchildren, Elliot (Chelsea) Plante, Mellissa Plante, and Casey (Meagan) Ringrose; great-grandchildren, Jack Graham, Nash and Colt Ringrose; sister-in-law, Louise Mallaghan and brother-in-law, Jack Gebert as well as numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. Anne was predeceased by her parents, Peter and Susan Mallaghan; brother, Patrick; sister, Mary and two bothers in infancy. Anne was born and raised in Regina, SK., attending Sacred Heart School and Scott Collegiate before obtaining her university degree from the University of Regina. She married the love of her life, Lawrence Francis Plante in 1957, at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church in Regina, becoming a stay at home wife and mother. Anne eventually was employed with the Government of Saskatchewan working in many departments and retiring from Consumer Affairs in 1991. They moved to Creston, B.C., then back to Medicine Hat, eventually settling in Chinook Village. Anne enjoyed travelling and visited many US states, most of Canada, Spain as well as Belfast, Ireland where she visited her father’s birthplace as well as the pub that her grandfather owned. She enjoyed bowling, golfing, watching the Saskatchewan Roughriders, shopping, reading murder mysteries, sewing and following the news. Anne lived life to the fullest and was looking forward to many happy years at Chinook Village. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so starting one hour prior to the service. The service will be celebrated at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Friday, January 13, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. with Deacon Robert Risling celebrant. A time of fellowship will follow in the Cook Southland Reception Facility. Interment will take place in the spring at the Regina Cemetery.
