Dorothy was predeceased by her parents, Cornelius and Erie Van Ieperen; her birth mother, Christine Matichuk; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Margaret (Dave) Green, Jim (Mary) Reesor, Joe (Marion) Reesor, Bob (Jean) Reesor, Merle (Mervin) McLuhan; her grandson, Kade; and special nephews Todd, Dwayne & Garth.
Dorothy Marie Van Ieperen Reesor was born in Regina, Saskatchewan to Christine Matichuk and named Ninette on August 2, 1940. Her adoptive parents, Cornelius & Erie Van Ieperen named her Dorothy. Dorothy & Maurice grew up along Battle Creek. She attended school in Consul, Rolling Hills, Herbert, and then back to Consul. She worked as a nurse’s aide in Maple Creek before she was married. She often talked about going into the church, where her father was the pastor, at a very young age to play the organ/piano. Dorothy was an amazing pianist and played by ear. She definitely had a beautiful musical gift. Even in 2022 she could still play by ear and it was a great enjoyment to her and to us. Although her skills declined in later months, she still retained her beautiful musical gift.
Dorothy married Ron Reesor on October 4, 1957, in the Consul Church of God. Together they raised their three sons and three daughters. They began their married life in the bunkhouse on the Reesor farm. They moved and started farming in the Little West district. Then they moved to Frontier, Saskatchewan, where Ron assumed the role of caretaking the rink, and then back to Little West in the springtime.
In 1965 they moved to Consul, five years later they moved out to the farm where Dorothy grew up, on Battle Creek. They farmed there until she moved to Medicine Hat.
We know her recent years weren’t the best, but our memories of her will be of an energetic, vivacious, wry humoured and intelligent woman, who loved to visit, play the piano, sew and create crafts. Dorothy’s legacy is her children and her descendants whose lives are and will continue to be an asset and blessings to their families, colleagues, friends and communities.
We love you. A celebration of Dorothy’s life is planned for January 14, 2023, at 2 PM in the community hall in Consul, Saskatchewan. Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be made to the charity of one’s choice. Condolences may be made at http://www.gracememorial.com. Arrangements are made by

CATHY MASER

CATHY MASER October 19, 1935 ~ December 31, 2022
Catherine Margaret Maser (nee Grage), formerly of Medicine Hat, passed away at the Legacy Lodge in Lethbridge, AB., on December 31, 2022, at the age of 87 years. She was predeceased by her husband, Marvin Philip Maser in May of 2015, after 60 years of marriage. Cathy was born in Maple Creek, SK., on October 19, 1935, and was taken home to the Grage ranch two miles south of the Cypress Hills Park where, as she grew, she enjoyed working with her mother Hellen (Nell) doing chores, haying, fencing, etc. Her father, Fred who was blind, helped Cathy with her correspondence courses until a school was started first in the Grages’ sitting room, then later a schoolhouse was built across the highway. For Junior High, Cathy stayed in a private home in Maple Creek then to a dormitory and finally finished high school by riding a bus driven by Leo Bryan. It was during the last years of school that an oil well was drilled up the meadow by Red Palmer (Arctic Oil Company) and he called the well, Cathy Grage #1; with the hope that when oil was struck there would be well #2, etc., but only water and a little gas was found. Cathy always grew up with the idea of just living on the ranch and being a cowgirl her mother had other ideas, so she was sent to Moose Jaw Teachers College where her sister, Helen had just graduated. When Helen and her friend Phillip Flaig came to visit her in Moose Jaw, they brought Marvin Maser along – and you know the rest of the story… followed by two years of teaching at Newheim School, marriage, children, handicrafts, sewing, embroidery and stamp collecting. When Cathy’s great uncle Henry left her some money, the happy couple were able to purchase their first house in Medicine Hat on 12th Street SE eventually upgraded to a house on 12th Street NW. When Marvin decided to quit his job and start Masers Appliance Service, Cathy went back to teaching first at St. Louis School in Medicine Hat, then Parkside in Redcliff and finally to Seven Persons School. The family moved from Medicine Hat to a farm at Seven Persons and finally built their dream home on an acreage closer to Medicine Hat. When they sold the farm due to Marvin’s poor health, they moved back into Medicine Hat and Cathy retired soon after. They enjoyed spending their winters in Yuma, Arizona for many years. Cathy was a 45 year member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Ladies Auxiliary #2100 and had been very active until the last couple of years. Cathy was predeceased by her parents, Fred Grage and Hellen Grage Lawrence; stepfather, George Lawrence; Marvin’s parents, Phillip and Paulina Maser; her sister, Helen and Phillip Flaig and four sisters and brothers-in-law, Viola (Fred) Rinke, Frances (Walter) Mund, LaVina (Clarence) Boschee and Shirley (George) Doktor. She is survived by her four children, Brenda (Wally) Garrioch, Deborah Saville, Duane (Linda) Maser, Candace (Dean) Romeril; nine grandchildren, Robin Neufeld, Andrea Garrioch, Victoria Saville, Layne (Katelyn) Saville, Jonathon Maser, Matthew (Dawn) Maser, Jasmine (Alex) Paredes, Sara Romeril and Amy Romeril; seven great-grandchildren, Chandra, Daelyn and Drayton Valley, Macsen and Halle Saville, Lachlann Herron, Kendrick Maser; a very special friend of the family, Brenda Slater as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the nursing staff and caregivers at the Legacy Lodge in Lethbridge for the compassionate care they provided to their mother. The family celebrated Cathy’s life with a private funeral service on January 5, 2023. If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Cathy’s name may be made directly to Margaret E. Yuill Cancer Centre, Medicine Hat Regional Hospital at 666 – 5 Street SW, Medicine Hat, AB., T1A 4H6, or to a charity of one’s choice. EVELYN JAHRAUS

EVELYN JAHRAUS September 20, 1922 ~ January 1, 2023
It is with extreme sorrow we announce the sudden but peaceful passing of Evelyn May Jahraus (nee Wharton) on New Year’s Day, 2023. Although she will be missed beyond words, we are grateful for her long and healthy life, having celebrated her 100th birthday this past September. She was very pleased to have received greetings from Queen Elizabeth to mark the occasion.
Evelyn was born and spent her childhood in Vanguard, SK, the only child of Martin and Elizabeth Wharton. After attending high school in Regina, SK., she moved with her parents to Medicine Hat. She trained as a stenographer at Garbutt’s Business College, later working in the offices at Alpha Dairy, Medalta Potteries Ltd., and Hycroft China Ltd. She then took a job in Brooks, AB where she met her husband, Ralph, who she married on Boxing Day, 1953. After raising her children, Evelyn returned to work providing childcare at various daycare centres throughout the city. Her most cherished vocation, however, was “Nanny”. She and Ralph attended as many events as they could to support and cheer on their grand and great-grandkids.
Evelyn was predeceased by her parents, husband, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins, as well as her granddaugher-in-law. She is survived by her children, Arlen, Kerrie (Leroy Vanderheiden), and Leta (Rick Zaleski); her grandchildren, Jamie (Bev), Nick (the late Kyla) Gauthier, Grayden and Ashton Zaleski; step-grandchildren, Daniel and Sara (Jesse Andres) Vanderheiden and her great-grandchildren, Evan, Hallie, Laine, Easton, and Chase Gauthier. Evelyn’s kind heart and positive outlook will also be missed by the residents and staff at Cypressview Lodge where she lived for the last seven years.
