ANNA LINK
ANNA LINK August 23, 1934 ~ December 22, 2022 Mrs. Anna Link of Medicine Hat, beloved wife of the late Ewald Link, passed away at the Riverview Care Centre on Thursday, December 22, 2022, at the age of 88. Anna is survived by her two daughters, Sherry (Adolf) Erdmann of Medicine Hat and Sandra (Brandon) Bullock of Sylvan Lake; six grandchildren, Anne deGraaf of Calgary, Lea (Daryl) Drysdale of Medicine Hat, Matthew Erdmann of Lethbridge, Kristin (Blake) Crawford of Rocky Mountain House, Rochelle (Cade) Scott of Red Deer and Zachary (Laura) Bullock of Sylvan Lake; several great-grandchildren as well as one sister, Mary (Peter) Braun. Anna was predeceased by her father, Cornelius Dyck (1952), mother, Katharina Dyck ~ nee Wall (1997), sister, Katherina Dyck (1939) as well as two brothers, Jake Dyck (2007) and Dean Dyck (2019). Anna was born on August 23, 1934, in McMahon, SK., and they later moved to the Barnwell/Taber area. As a young child, she worked hard helping her family in the sugar beet fields. Anna lived there until she was 16 years old when she moved to Calgary and started working for Safeway where she was a founding member of their union. In 1957, she met Ewald and they were married here in Medicine Hat. She supported Ewald in the construction business as it took them to Yorkton, Kelowna, Cranbrook, Lethbridge and Sylvan Lake before bringing them back to Medicine Hat in 1993 to enjoy their retirement. Anna enjoyed baking, snow skiing, curling, golfing, crocheting, knitting and learning how to swim in her 40’s, something she was very proud of. Above all else, she cherished her time spent with family and felt strongly that no amount of money or success could take the place of time shared with family. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Riverview Care Centre for their care and compassion. Anna’s life will be honoured privately by her family at a future date. “ANNIE” LORRINE ANSON
ANSON, “ANNIE” LORRINE May 11, 1932 December 14, 2022
It is with sadness and much love that we mourn the passing of “Annie” Lorrine Anson on December 14, 2022 at the age of 90 years. Lorrine is predeceased by her beloved husband William, son Douglas and siblings Ruben Bohnet and Phyllis Hirsch. She is survived by her son Donald and grandchildren Brett (Natalie), Chelsea (Devin), Nicole and Paul.
Lorrine was born in Medicine Hat to parents Fred and Elizabeth Bohnet. It was in Medicine Hat that she met and married Bill and they shared 67 years together. Bill’s career had them make the move to Calgary in 1968. Once the family settled into their new surroundings she started work with Calgary Co-Op until retirement. Lorrine and Bill started a family tradition when they purchased a cabin in Trout Lake, BC. Family and friends gathered there every August for summer vacation for many years, and continue to do so today. Once in full retirement winters were spent as snowbirds in Arizona and the summer months in their RV at Country Lane Estates.
Family meant the world to Lorrine. Her support for her children and grandchildren was unwavering. That love was evident in the years of care she and Bill gave to Doug through his illness. She was a good friend to many, enjoyed a lively party and was a gracious host, an amazing chef and also a force to be reckoned with on occasion.
The family would like to extend a thank you to the wonderful caring people who treated her as family on the Cowboy Trail Unit at Bethany Riverview. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her memory to the Bethany Riverview Recreation Team by reaching out to them at
bcf@bethanyseniors.com.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, January 5, 2023 at 1:00 pm at Eden Brook Funeral Home (17 Avenue SW and Lower Springbank Road). Condolences may be forwarded to the family by visiting

BETTY VAN STAALDUINE
VAN STAALDUINE, Betty
Betty Van Staalduine, beloved wife of the late John Van Staalduine for 62 years, died on Friday, December 23, 2022.
Betty is survived by their 5 children: Jerry and his wife, Cathy and their children, Glenn, Blair and Morgan; Lenora; Lyndon (Moose) and his wife Jackie and their children, Kaitlyn and husband Grant Heidinger, Brady and Kasi; Patti and her partner Darcy Faller and their children, Amanda and husband Kris Kristianson, son Kallum, Kristle and partner Dustin Baynham, son Bradly and Vance; Tim and his wife Debra; as well as 2 sisters: Sylvia Robinson and Norma Graham. Betty moved into Foremost following John’s death in 2018 and enjoyed her time in the Fairway manor.
This poem written by Betty, awarded a silver medal at the southeast zone of the Alberta 55+ Games, pretty much sums up her life philosophy.
Like women everywhere I have lived my life. I didn’t climb a mountain. I didn’t fly to the moon. I didn’t discover penicillin. I raised my family. Five beautiful children make their way in the world. I kept my home. I loved my neighbour. I laughed, I cried. I am at peace. I have lived well.
There will be no formal Funeral Service held.
If you wish to do something in Betty’s memory, stop and smell the flowers, donate to a favourite charity, hug the ones you love.

BERTHA ERICKSON
BERTHA ERICKSON
1927 ~ 2022
It is with great sadness the family of Bertha Erickson announce her passing on December 27, 2022. Bertha was the first child born to John and Helen Schafer, at home near Richmound, Saskatchewan, on November 6, 1927. Bertha grew up in the farming community of Schuler, walking two miles to school and back with her lunch in a syrup pail. Her mom taught her to be a great cook and at age ten she was cooking for their company. Her education ended at grade eight and she worked for and boarded with local farm families. She moved to the city and worked in the vegetable gardens for ten hours a day for $1.00. Bertha met Albert Stuber and they were married on November 19, 1946, at Schuler. They resided at the Stuber farm northwest of Elkwater where their daughter was born in November of 1947. The family moved to Medicine Hat and then bought a house in Redcliff in 1951. Bertha worked as a cook, chambermaid, housekeeper, greenhouse labourer and in childcare. She was secretary of the Redcliff C.W.L. and was a 25 year member. In the 1980’s, Bertha and her mom went on their first air plane ride to visit her brother in northern Alberta. Later, she travelled to Disneyland and Disney World for family holidays. Albert passed away on January 15, 1986. Through Albert’s family, she met and married Raymond Erickson on June 2, 1990. They lived in the city, travelled by bus to many destinations, grew a huge garden, helped their friends and hosted the annual garage sale. Raymond passed away on February 13, 2004. Bertha always enjoyed cooking strudels, kniefle, cheese buttons and kucha. Seeing her great grandchildren gave her the biggest smiles. She moved from her home in 2016 and into extended care in 2021.
Bertha is survived by her daughter Carol and her husband Harvey Meier; granddaughters Tara and husband Connie Goddu and Michele and husband Rob Downie; great grandchildren Rylee Goddu, Grace Downie, Luke Downie, Dakota and husband Mike Comfort and their children Austin and Evelyn; her sister Helen Zacher; sister-in-law, Julia Schafer; nieces and nephews; extended family Linda and Wilbert Langille, Cathy Meier, Elliott and Lori Meier and their families. She was predeceased by her brothers Adam and Peter Schafer and brother-in-law Wendal Zacher.
Family and friends who wish to pay their respects may do so at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME on Monday, January 2, 2023 from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated in the Holy Family Parish (1451 Strachan Road S.E.) on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Naveed Arif, celebrant. Luncheon to follow mass with interment then following at 2:00 p.m. in the Redcliff Cemetery. To leave a message of condolence you may visit

DEBRA BENSON
DEBRA BENSON 1954 – 2022
Debra Mae Benson, beloved wife of the late Douglas Norman Benson, passed away after a courageous battle with Cancer on December 26, 2022 at the age of 68 years.
Nan was a New Year’s Baby born Jan 2, 1954. The oldest daughter born to Edgar Robinson and Matilda (Tillie) Menage. As a young girl the Robinson family moved to Medicine Hat, and this is where she called home for the remainder of her life.
In an Autumn wedding in 1972, she married Pa, and in 1974 they welcomed their only daughter Michelle. In 1995, their first granddaughter Shandler was born, and in 2002 they welcomed their second granddaughter Larkin.
Nan held many occupations in her life. A hairdresser, real estate agent, florist, merchandiser, teacher’s aid, officially retired in 2021. It is safe to say she was a lifelong learner. She was also an avid artist, the family sous chef, she was fiercely competitive, especially during family crib tournaments, loved to visit with friends, two seater sports cars, and going for breaky. Mom was our family historian, she knew all the generations of stories, which she was more than happy to share. She was the first to celebrate our successes, and always wanted to cushion our blows. Thank you for loving us.
She will be forever missed, forever cherished, and forever loved.
We would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at the cancer clinic and 4 west for their service and dedication throughout Nan’s journey, and a special thank you to Vicki for your friendship and unconditional love.
Family and Friends are invited to come celebrate the magic of Debra’s life on February 23, 2023 at the MT Nest Cafe, located at #104-266 4th Street SW from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.

KATHERINE “KATHY” BISHOP
KATHERINE “KATHY” BISHOP 1949 ~ 2022 Katherine (Kathy) Bishop, beloved wife of the late Wally Bishop, passed away in the Medicine Hat hospital on December 23, 2022 at the age of 73 years. She was the eldest daughter of Sadie & Marion Sewell, born March 7, 1949 in Lafleche, SK. Kathy married Wally Bishop in 1971. They were both adored and survived by their five children, Les Sewell (Pam), Charlene Wyrostok (Chris), Darren Bishop (Allison), Trevor Bishop (Vandy), and Jaime Bishop. Kathy is also survived by her six grandchildren, Baiden and Bauer Sewell, Caleb and Kieran Wyrostok, and Kane and Diesel Bishop; as well as her sister, Donnelle Morrisette (Ray). Kathy dedicated much of her life to raising her children and helping with the family farm before moving to Medicine Hat, AB in 2001. Her work ethic was second to none in all aspects of her life, whether that was demonstrated on the farm, working in Medicine Hat prior to her retirement, decorating her home and community with copious Christmas lights during the holidays, or growing the most impressive vegetable and flower gardens that all her neighbors admired. Kathy exemplified what a devoted wife entails in her 49 years of marriage, but especially when Wally became ill. She became his 24-hour caregiver never wavering in her dedication to keep him comfortable and caring for him for at home until his passing. Anyone that knew Kathy, knew how important her family was to her. Her incredible love for her six grandchildren was obvious and could often be observed as she attended their many sporting events and how eager she was to tell all those around her how proud she was of all their accomplishments. She loved her family with every ounce of her being, and nothing made her happier than when her children and grandchildren could all be together for family dinners and holidays. Kathy will always be remembered for her kind heart and gentle nature. She was genuine, loving, and always tried to help others. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Christmas was Kathy’s favorite time of year, and although those that love her are devastated by her passing, there is peace in knowing she is back with “Dad” and that they were finally able to spend Christmas together once again. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date with her family and closest friends. To honour her memory and her love for animals, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a local animal rescue shelter in the community of the person donating.
Rest in peace mom…love you!

JAKOB EICHELE
1932 ~ JAKOB EICHELE ~ 2022 It is with profound sadness that the family of Jakob Eichele announces his passing on Monday, December 26th, 2022 at the age of 90 years. He was a compassionate, patient, and devoted husband, son, father, grandfather and friend who will be dearly missed. Jakob was born in a little village close to Helenental. In his youth, he was an apprentice carpenter. When it became evident that the political climate in Europe was changing, he left his family, friends and motorcycle to venture off by himself, making his way to Canada. He was determined to make a new life for his family. Jacob was able to find a job and place to live in Medicine Hat. He soon succeeded in having his parents and sister join him in Alberta. It was while playing football aka soccer in Redcliff, he met Elfrieda and they were married in 1960. The couple moved to Weyburn, Saskatchewan for six years, Redcliff for one, returning to Medicine Hat in 1973. As a carpenter, he worked for several construction firms. He proudly told stories of building many homes for family members, as well as his own in the evenings, after working all day. He had a lot of energy! Jakob’s final home was his greatest achievement – he was determined to age there, looking after his garden! His children brought him happiness, but his grandsons were his joy! Jakob doted on his boys. He enjoyed babysitting them as much as sharing a Pilsner when they got older. He loved his grandchildren more than air. Jakob leaves to cherish his memory his children, Audrey (Brad) Pavelich and Richard (Lorette Dube) Eichele; grandchildren, Scott (Megan) Pavelich, Aaron Pavelich, and Blake (Madison) Pavelich; brother-in-law, Alfred Ferchau; sisters-in-law, Ellen Ferchau (Paris Koukis) and Francis Ferchau; as well as nieces and nephews.
Jakob was predeceased by his beloved wife, Elfrieda; parents, Johann and Eva Eichele, sister, Lilly Seifried and brothers-in-law, William Seifried and Carl Ferchau; as well as nephew, Randy Seifried. The Funeral Service will be held at SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL, 1 Dunmore Road SE, Medicine Hat, AB T1A 1Z5, on Tuesday, January 3rd, 2023 at 1:30 pm with Pastor Shane Hein officiating.
