ANNA LINK
ANNA LINK August 23, 1934 ~ December 22, 2022 Mrs. Anna Link of Medicine Hat, beloved wife of the late Ewald Link, passed away at the Riverview Care Centre on Thursday, December 22, 2022, at the age of 88. Anna is survived by her two daughters, Sherry (Adolf) Erdmann of Medicine Hat and Sandra (Brandon) Bullock of Sylvan Lake; six grandchildren, Anne deGraaf of Calgary, Lea (Daryl) Drysdale of Medicine Hat, Matthew Erdmann of Lethbridge, Kristin (Blake) Crawford of Rocky Mountain House, Rochelle (Cade) Scott of Red Deer and Zachary (Laura) Bullock of Sylvan Lake; several great-grandchildren as well as one sister, Mary (Peter) Braun. Anna was predeceased by her father, Cornelius Dyck (1952), mother, Katharina Dyck ~ nee Wall (1997), sister, Katherina Dyck (1939) as well as two brothers, Jake Dyck (2007) and Dean Dyck (2019). Anna was born on August 23, 1934, in McMahon, SK., and they later moved to the Barnwell/Taber area. As a young child, she worked hard helping her family in the sugar beet fields. Anna lived there until she was 16 years old when she moved to Calgary and started working for Safeway where she was a founding member of their union. In 1957, she met Ewald and they were married here in Medicine Hat. She supported Ewald in the construction business as it took them to Yorkton, Kelowna, Cranbrook, Lethbridge and Sylvan Lake before bringing them back to Medicine Hat in 1993 to enjoy their retirement. Anna enjoyed baking, snow skiing, curling, golfing, crocheting, knitting and learning how to swim in her 40’s, something she was very proud of. Above all else, she cherished her time spent with family and felt strongly that no amount of money or success could take the place of time shared with family. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Riverview Care Centre for their care and compassion. Anna’s life will be honoured privately by her family at a future date. Tom leaves to cherish his memory three children, Warren (Sheila) Schafer, Bonnie (Andy) Moon and Robert (Cheryl) Schafer; grandchildren, Sonya Schafer, Karl Schafer, Chris (Kendra) Moon, Lacey (Robby) Taylor, Alex (Sarah) Moon, Danny (Ally) Moon, Kenneth Schafer, Shelbey Schafer (Jean-Francois Dussault), Brandon (Whitney) Mutschler, Brodie Mutschler; 12 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Tom was predeceased by his parents, John and Maria Schafer; his wife, Magdalena Schafer; infant son, Kenneth Schafer; and sister, Betty Koehler. Tom grew up in various places in Saskatchewan. He met the love of his life, Maggie, in 1956 and they married in 1961. They moved to Medicine Hat in 1962 to raise their three children. He spent many weekends at the lake fishing with family and friends. Tom worked in various groceries stores, even when they moved to Biggar, SK in 1980. When they returned to Medicine Hat in 1986, he worked at different jobs including driving a tow truck for Phil’s Towing. Tom and Maggie embarked on the trip of a lifetime to Hawaii along with Betty and Bert. This supplied many fond memories and stories. He retired after his massive heart attack in 1996. Horseshoes were a passion for Tom for years. He was extremely proud to earn a bronze medal at the Alberta 55 Plus Summer Provincials in July 2019 playing horseshoes. Over the years he has been an avid sports fan and you could find him watching the game on tv while cheering for the Oilers, the Blue Jays, and the Eskimo’s or Saskatchewan Rough Riders. Tom loved to hear how his family was doing and holding the little ones. A Memorial Service will be held in the spring to pay tribute to Tom. Memorial gifts in Tom’s memory may be made to the Alberta Heart & Stroke Foundation, PO Box 460 STN K, Toronto, ON M4P 9Z9 or Alberta Cancer Foundation, 710-10123, 99th Street NW, Edmonton, AB, T5J3H1 or the The Lung Association Alberta/NWT Division, P.O.
