DIXIE JOHNSON 1936 – 2022 Vivian Jean Johnson, beloved wife of Garry Johnson, passed away peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Saviour, surrounded by her family, on Friday, November 4, 2022 at the age of 86 years.
A private burial service will be held at the Burdett Cemetery prior to the funeral service on Tuesday, November 15, 2022.

Dixie leaves to cherish her memory, her beloved husband Garry and their two sons Greg Johnson of Burdett and Darren (Alanna) Johnson of Bow Island and by her nine grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren; sister Peggy Brown, sisters-in-law Sheila Bjerkseth, Deanna Dutton and by numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her beloved daughter Wendy, her parents Jean and Dick Towndrow, step mother Helen Towndrow, by her aunt Nellie Towndrow and also by her brothers-in-law Chuck Brown, Joe Bjerkseth and John Dutton.
Dixie was born on August 23, 1936 in Cupar, Saskatchewan. She had one sister Peggy. Dixies’s dad went off to war in 1939 leaving Jean to raise the two girls on her own. Dixie said her mom did a fine job of working and being a mom. She attended school in Regina and after graduation, she entered nursing school at the Regina Grey Nuns Hospital for three years, graduating in 1958. In 1959, Dixie came by bus to Bow Island. What a shock it was coming from a big city to a small town but she loved nursing! In 1960 she married the love of her life Garry Johnson and in 1962 she decided to leave nursing and make a home for her family, eventually having three children.
Dixie struggled with epilepsy from the age of sixteen until her passing. With determination she was able to cope with this thanks to the support of her loving family. Dixie was a volunteer and helped wherever she could, canvassing and being a member of the Women’s Institute since 1985. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, reading and spending time with her numerous grandchildren.
Dixie had many memorable trips with family that included Disneyland; Phoenix; a memorable trip to the Maritimes with Garry, her sister-in-law Sheila and brother-in-law Joe; an Alaskan cruise; and a three week trip to Europe with her sister Peggy, brother-in-law Chuck and her Dad. Dixie and Gary fostered and sponsored many children throughout the years.
She was at peace with her Lord knowing she was created by him and knowing how much he loved her.
If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Dixie’s name may be made directly to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta, 100, 119 – 14 Street NW, Calgary, Alberta T2N 1Z6 (www.heartandstroke.com) or to the Southern Alberta Bible Camp, Box 99, Lomond, Alberta T0L 1G0.

It is with deepest sadness that we announce our Dad’s passing on November 05, 2022 at the age of 93 years. Dad was predeceased by our mom, Estelle, in 2014. He is also lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Trevor (Desirae), Travis (Laura), Kim, Neil (Jaclyn), Jody (Bill), Stacy (Jen), Curtis (Amanda), Kaylie, as well as nine great grandchildren. Dad was born in Fox Valley, SK, and it was there he met Estelle Hepper, whom he married in 1952. They farmed there until moving to Medicine Hat in 1956. Dad was employed by North West Nitro Chemicals for ten years where he became a 3rd Class Steam Engineer. In 1966, Dad, Mom and four kids moved to the Manyberries area where they farmed and ranched until 1991. He was a co-owner and played an integral part in the creation and operation of Lost River Construction Ltd. Dad and Mom semi-retired to an acreage, then moved into Medicine Hat. After Mom’s passing, Dad lived independently in a senior’s residence.During his youth, Dad was an avid baseball player and his love of the game continued as he played senior slow pitch into his eighties. Curling was also a favourite pastime of his, and Mom’s. Dad was also a leader of our 4-H Beef Club for eleven years. Our steers were chosen from our own herd and he was very proud when several went on to become champions. Dad also served on the Board of Directors for Pinhorn Grazing Association for twenty-five years.Dad and Mom belonged to the Orion Community Association and spent many hours preparing for the dine and dances that they enjoyed so much. They loved to dance and we are so thankful that Dad was still dancing at ninety-three. He will be forever missed and lovingly remembered. ELINOR SNORTLAND
ELINOR SNORTLAND 1929 – 2022
Elinor Kathryne Snortland of Medicine Hat, passed away on Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at the age of 93 years, beloved wife of the late Floyd Snortland. She leaves to cherish her memory two children Darrel (Helen) Snortland and Denise Snortland (Ross Scrimshaw); eight grandchildren Jody (Lawrence) Pellissey, Cole (Roseann) Snortland, Brooke Price, Erin (Dan) Cavan, Colin (Maguy) Snortland, Jayden Snortland, Amber (Jay) Adams, Chad (Chaiki) Palmer, her great grandchildren Georgia and Katherine, Skyler and Lily, Beau and Brenna, Lou and Maë, Jak and Nora, Katie and Khloe. She was predeceased by her parents Halfdan and Emma Kvavig, her son Delbert Snortland, daughter Dolores Palmer, and grandson Shay Snortland.
Elinor was a homemaker all her life and made the best home for her family. She was the best cook and baker, becoming known for her cinnamon buns. She sewed, quilted, knit, crocheted, and loved her flower and vegetable garden. Both Elinor and Floyd loved to dance, and Elinor taught her family to dance around the kitchen. She had a wonderful sense of humor, and the adjective everyone used for her was “sweet”. Elinor was happy when her family was around even if it was for a quick five minute visit. At Christmas, when the grandchildren were young they would go to the farm and stay for a few days. There were lots of presents under the tree, lots of food to eat, fun and laughter and among it all Elinor could be found sitting on the floor with all of her grandchildren around her. The family has many happy memories of Elinor. Everyone of them is precious and will be treasured forever as her family will treasure her.
The graveside funeral service will be held at Hillside Cemetery on Tuesday, November 15, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. with Life Celebrant David Townsend officiating. Those who wish to remember Elinor with a donation, may do so to the charity of your choice. To leave a message of condolence you may visit

Ray ‘Razor’ (as he was known) will be greatly missed by his wonderful friends, Bobby and Rosanne Leger and family, Todd Stadnyk, Charlotte Hazel; all of whom provided him with unselfish care, love and companionship. We are so grateful for all they’ve done and to have had them in his life. He loved you all.

Following his retirement with over 30 years of service, Ray worked for Balistech Industries and was affiliated with the Medicine Hat Blue Jays and the Connaught Golf Club.
Ray had many interests and was quite an avid sportsman. Whether it was golf, fishing, hunting, hockey or baseball, he excelled at most and won numerous awards in recognition of his talent. Ray loved a good party and was always ready for a good time especially when he could host gatherings in his beautiful back yard. He will remain in our hearts and we are comforted knowing that Dad is now at peace.
Thank you to Dr. Classen for his support, compassion and care he provided to Dad during the past several months along with those in the healthcare field that bonded with him over this time.
