Estella was the oldest of eight children of Oliver Ulmer and Eva (Baker) Ulmer. She attended school up until grade six, when she was needed to return home to help take care of her siblings. She is now reunited with her brother, Leonard and her parents, Oliver and Eva Ulmer.
Estella will be remembered as loving, caring, generous, and kind. She was always up for a chat no matter who or where she was. She was the greatest cheerleader any family member could ever want, and she attended every event no matter the time or place.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the compassionate staff at River Ridge Seniors Village for the loving care and attention they provided Estella.

THOMAS “IAN” REID HOPE
THOMAS “IAN” REID HOPE July 16, 1936 October 20, 2022 Surrounded by the love of his family, Ian passed away peacefully on October 20, 2022, at the age of 86 years.
Lovingly remembered by Myrtle, his wife of 62 years, Ian also leaves to cherish his memory his daughters Brenda (Marc) Edelson and Deanna (Hugh) Sutherland. Ian will be dearly missed by his three grandchildren, Jennifer Sutherland (Shane Yaholnitsky), Jason (Katie) Sutherland, Jeremy Sutherland, and five great-grandchildren Dominic, Akayla, Savanna, Charlie, and Rory.
Ian was predeceased by his parents Thomas and Annabelle (nee Reid) Hope. He was the youngest and last surviving member of the Hope siblings: Ken Hope, Grace Semenok, Marie Drever, Eileen Drever, Wilfred Hope, Winnie Bowyer, and George Hope. Ian had a large extended family that cared for him dearly.
Ian was born on July 16, 1936, in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan, and was raised on the family farm in the Piapot, Saskatchewan District. He received his education at the Caswell one-room schoolhouse. He shared the responsibility of the farming operations for a few years with his brother Ken. He then transitioned to a career with Beaver Lumber in Maple Creek. On a blind date in Maple Creek, he met Myrtle (nee Jackle), which was the beginning of a loving and caring relationship. They were married on July 15, 1960, in Maple Creek, and soon after moved to Spiritwood Saskatchewan for Ian to manage that town’s Beaver Lumber. Shortly after the birth of their daughters, the family moved to Medicine Hat Alberta. Through hard work and dedication, Ian achieved his certification as a Power Engineer. He was employed by North-West Nitro / Western Co-op Fertilizers in Medicine Hat until the plant closure. They relocated to Fort McMurray Alberta where Ian was employed by Syncrude until his retirement, after which they returned to Medicine Hat.
Ian and Myrtle shared a love for camping, exploring many locations in North America. They also enjoyed adventures to Europe, wherever the cruise ship would take them, and winters in Arizona. Ian volunteered his time and expertise in his communities, churches, and places of employment. He was a very talented Mr Fix-It and, together with Myrtle, built their retirement home. Ian enjoyed curling, golf, shuffleboard, playing cards, and visiting with family, friends, and neighbours. He especially loved watching his grandchildren participate in their sports, and treasured visits with his great-grandchildren. No matter how the season was going, he was always a devoted Calgary Flames fan.
When failing health deprived him of his favourite activities, he continued to take pleasure in nature, Myrtle’s baking, and the loving presence of family and friends. No matter what challenge he was presented with in the past few years, he never complained or lost his sense of humour. He weathered each storm with grace, dignity, and unwavering faith.
Homecare aides, and equipment borrowed from AJ’s Loan Cupboard made it possible for Ian to remain at home in his final years. He appreciated the professional care and companionship he received from Tim, Brett, Debra, Denice, Natasha, Mandy, Amber, Diana, Pierre, Liz, Karen, and others.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to his dedicated health care professionals, Dr Emad Salih, Dr Geberth Urbaneja, Dr Neil Watson, Dory Glaser Watson, and Preston Sloan for their expertise, support, and respect shown to Ian over the past years.
Per the family’s request, COVID-19 precautions will be in effect in all locations. Masks and hand sanitizing will be mandatory.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects between 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 28, 2022, at the Pattison Funeral Home, 540 South Railway Street SE, Medicine Hat and at St. Paul Lutheran Church one hour prior to the funeral service.
