JO SCHLENKER

1924 ~ JO SCHLENKER ~ 2022
It is with profound sadness that Willa and Walter Posnikoff announce Jo’s peaceful passing at the Good Samaritan Society in Medicine Hat on Thursday, October 13, 2022 at the age of 98 years. She was predeceased by her parents and her husband, Emil Schlenker on May 22, 2014. Jo was the second of five children born to Albert and Agnes Steele of Verlo, Saskatchewan. She was the last living sibling. Jo also leaves behind two sisters-in -law, Beatrice Steele and Darlene Steele as well as many nieces and nephews and extended family on the Steele and Schlenker sides of her family. Jo had many health issues over the years and bore her struggles with strength and dignity and when asked how she was doing she would always say, “I’m good” with a smile on her face. She never complained and would often comment, “I am tough, I am Irish!” And she was. Jo was a loving wife and mother. She took great care of us and these memories will be cherished forever. She loved her family and always engaged in their lives in anyway she could and was also a true friend to many. Jo and Emil were actively involved in the community for many years. They received the Platinum Award for community involvement in 1993. Some years later Mom was recognized for a Spirit Award by the City of Medicine Hat. They made many wonderful friends over the years. Of course, dancing was an integral part of their lives and they just loved to dance together! They enjoyed extensive travel to many places around the world and made frequent trips to Thornhill, Ontario to visit Willa and Walter. Thank you to Good Sam’s for their excellent care over the years as well as the many family members and friends who visited with Jo over that time. Also, our sincere gratitude goes out to Dr. Jeraj who cared for her for over 30 years. Her’s was a life well lived!! She is now dancing in Heaven with her dear Emil!! The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Saturday, October 22, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Sheila McLeod officiating. A private family interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery. The service will be live streamed.
