WAYNE CHESLEY
August 4, 1939 – WAYNE CHESLEY – September 24, 2022
Wayne Phelps Chesley, beloved husband of 57 years to Bernice Chesley, passed away at the age of 83 on Saturday, September 24, 2022 in Medicine Hat. He leaves to cherish his memory their three children, Jill Chesley (Kathleen Danser) of Edmonton, Debra Chesley of Calgary, and Jay (Tracey) Chesley of Calgary; their granddaughter Elizabeth Chesley of Vancouver; his aunt Doreen Medland of Toronto; his nieces, Laurie and Judy; as well as other members of his extended family. He was predeceased by his parents Phelps and Olive Chesley, and his sister Gail Provan. Somewhat nomadic, Wayne was born in Punnichy, Saskatchewan on August 4, 1939, moved with his parents and sister to Medicine Hat by the late 1940’s and married Bernice in Winnipeg on February 5, 1965. They started their family while moving around western Canada for Wayne’s work with Ford Motor Company. Settling in Pincher Creek in 1974, Wayne opened his first dealership, Wayne Ford. After serving that community for 16 years, once their children graduated high school, Wayne and Bernice moved to Calgary in 1990. There, Wayne became General Manager of Canyon Creek Toyota. Two years later, he took the opportunity to open a dealership in his hometown of Medicine Hat. Wayne owned and operated Park City Toyota for 15 years before proudly selling it to his son in 2007. Wayne also joined the Cypress Club, eventually serving on its board and then acting as its President from 2000 to 2001. In 1998, when he joined the Rotary Club, Wayne began to experience one of his greatest satisfactions. Believing in the power and responsibility of service, Wayne acted as President from 2008 to 2009, and became a member of the Rotary District 5360 Board. He was also a Paul Harris Fellow, a member of the Bequest Society, and a proud member of the Arch Klumph Society. Through it all, Wayne and Bernice had the pleasure of travelling across the world together, mostly in their later years, visiting memorable locales such as Indonesia, Africa, Russia, India, China, Croatia, Ecuador, South Africa, Poland, and Tuktoyaktuk. The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Thursday, October 6, 2022, at 1:30 p.m. with Life Celebrant David Townsend officiating. The service will be live streamed. Those who wish to attend virtually, please visit pattisonfuneralhome.com and select live streaming, then select youtube (arrow). A private family interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery.
