1946 ~ RICHARD McDONALD ~ 2022

It is with great sadness that the family of Richard Wilson McDonald announce his passing on Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at the age of 76 years. Richard was born May 13th, 1946 at Cornwall, Ontario, son of Athol and Edna McDonald. Rick was a “travelling man”, and the song, “I’ve Been Everywhere Man”, pretty much describes him. He loved driving, travelling, and seeing new places. His work life allowed him to travel far and wide, from Melville Island in the cold north to Indonesia in the heat, as well as extensively in Canada and the USA. Driving many miles for his jobs did not dampen his enthusiasm for travelling; family vacations always involved him chauffeuring the family to Ontario and B.C, or elsewhere. Rick and Dodie were married in 1974. They were blessed with a daughter, Kimberlie, in 1975 and a son, Adam, in 1978. Rick loved his family deeply, including his grandchildren who brought him great joy. He will forever be watching over Ben, Erin, Sinjin, Owen, Brody, Arizona, Meadow, and Mace; as well as great granddaughter, Lexi. Rick leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Dodie; his daughter, Kimberlie (Dwayne) Soper; son, Adam (Keri Robinson); his grandchildren and great grandchild. He is also survived by his sister, Dianne (John) Angus; mother-in-law, Mildred Fleming; as well as cousins, extended family, nieces and nephews, and many cherished friends. Rick had a great sense of humour which never failed him even through his many health issues. Happy fishing and happy trucking Rick. The Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 30, 2022 at 11:00 am at the Royal Canadian Legion, 702 2 St SE, Medicine Hat, AB T1A 0E1. FLORENCE ANN THACKER (nee HECK)

Florence Ann Thacker (nee Heck), affectionately known by her family as “Grandma Goose”, passed away peacefully surrounded by her children on Monday, July 25, 2022, at the age of 97 years . She was born on September 19, 1924, in Denzil Saskatchewan to Anna Maria Heck, sadly her father Hironymous Heck had passed before her birth. After several years of struggling on a widow’s pension and taking in sewing to make ends meet, a marriage was arranged with Andrew Volk of Burdett who had four children of his own. The newly blended Volk family were active members of the Catholic church community and attended the Jasmine school. Florence met her husband, George at a dance in Burdett. They were married in 1947 and raised six children; Lynn (Ute), Janis (Meryl) Goodfellow, Jim (Dalyce), Dale (Natalie), Diane (Tim) Main, and Richard. She was predeceased by George in 2019. Florence, with boundless energy, was able to do an incredible amount of work in the home as well as in the fields. In total, she helped raise thirteen grandchildren: Raimey, Nathan, Clint, Reed, Lawnie, Kassie, Martin, Emily, Kyle, Gavin, Brianne, Cam, and Danika. She was able to enjoy in total 24 great-grandchildren. Florence was an avid ball player and curler. At the age of 50 she found her forever sport… GOLF. This passion for golf led George and Florence to Arizona for 17 winters. Florence never lost her “Heck” sense of humour even in the final years of her life. The family wish to extend their deepest thanks to the staff at the Bow Island Long Term Care facility and to the staff at the Pleasant View Lodge. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Burdett Hall on Thursday, August 4, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. Everyone is invited to wear their favorite Golf attire in honour of Florence. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Bow Island and District Health Foundation c/o Long Term Care, Bow Island Health Centre, P.O.
