1929 ~ ALICE LARSON ~ 2022
Alice Louise Larson of Bow Island peacefully passed away on July 19, 2022, at the age of 93 years, beloved wife of the late Fred Larson. She leaves to cherish her memory three children, Debbie Richter (Steven) of Glendon, Alden Larson of Fort St. John, and Greg (Inga) Larson of Bow Island; six grandchildren, Karl, David, Bernadette, Kori, Ryan, and Amy; and two brothers, Harold (Irma) of Medicine Hat and Meryl of Edmonton. She was predeceased by her husband, Fred Larson on December 25, 2009; her parents, Henry and Lela Schnee; three brothers, Neil, Dale, and Harvey; as well as two sisters, Marion and Theda. Alice was born in Medicine Hat on February 20, 1929, but her birth certificate says February 21 so it was always a joke that she had “two” birthdays. She was raised on the Schnee family farm in the Conquerville area southeast of Bow Island. She could be found tagging along and learning about horses from her “Pop” when she was three years old. At four years old the hired man, sitting along side handed her the teams reins while hauling a wagon load of grain from the field to the farm. Thus starting her life long love of horses. She was as her brother, Harold would call her, a “horse whisperer”. She could do things with teams and riding horses that most people couldn’t. She had many amazing stories about her days growing up on the farm. She left the farm in the early ‘50s to work on various ranches around Alberta ending up at the Larson Ranch near Manyberries in ‘57, where she met Fred. They married in ‘58 and had three children. Alden in ‘59, Gregory in ‘61, and Debbie in ‘63. Fred and Alice bought and moved to their own farm near manyberries in ‘69 but due to health reasons they sold and moved to a new farm near Bonneyville. As retirement came, moves to B.C. and Saskatchewan were made. When Fred passed in 2009, Alice moved to Keremeos, B.C. In April of 2021 she took up residence at Pleasant View Lodge in Bow Island until her passing. Alice was an avid gardener learning at an early age on the farm growing large gardens for their family as well as those in need in the community during hard times through the 1930’s. She worked her garden right up to a few years before moving to Bow Island. Alice had a good sense of humour, loved organizing outings and family functions as well as “pranking” friends and family with her good friend, Vivian. Alice made a decision in her last days that she would like to spend eternity with that special friend, the garden, laughs, and to organize another program for all those that would like to join. She made the best decision ever to spend eternity in Heaven… in paradise. She hopes you will join her in the garden. Alice’s family would like to extend heartfelt thanks for the wonderful care Mom received at the Pleasant View Lodge, Bow Island Hospital and Long Term Care. There will be a memorial service for friends and family at a later date. To leave a message of condolence you may visit

AGNES ‘LYNN’ SKORPACK
June 5, 1939 ~ July 4, 2022
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Agnes ‘Lynn’ Skorpack (nee Frisch), beloved wife of the late James Skorpack, on July 4, 2022, at the age of 83 years. She is survived by her daughters, Barb and Cheryl; grand-girls; four great-grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives and close friends. Lynn was born in Medicine Hat, and as an adult, relocated to Calgary where she later met the love of her life and where they raised their daughters together. As they contemplated a slower pace of life, they eventually relocated to the country near Elkwater where they enjoyed retirement together along with their many horses, dogs and cats. Lynn was a social butterfly who was always up for a visit, a game or an adventure of any kind. She enjoyed the outdoors with her flowers or in the garden and was frequently found planting more things than anyone knew what to do with – but this was intentional as she always wanted to have enough to share. She had a love for travel and was fortunate to have recently taken trips with both of her daughters. Lynn spent much of her time helping others, both through her church as well as through volunteering in the local community. Lynn’s greatest accomplishment was her family. A Celebration of Life will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Thursday, July 28, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Ryan Semchuk officiating. A time of fellowship will follow in the Cook Southland reception Facility. If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Lynn’s name may be made directly to St. Joseph’s Home – Carmel Hospice, 156 – 3 Street N.E., Medicine Hat, AB., T1A 5M1. He was predeceased by his parents, Harry and Dot Hobbs as well as his father-in-law, Donald Walsh. Gary was born in Claresholm, AB., on February 16, 1953. At a young age, he started driving semi, and did so for years hauling cattle, grain and machinery amongst other things. Many will remember his “Wrong Turn Clyde” story… Gary was heading up north with the flat deck, took the wrong turn, and ended up in a residential area in Calgary requiring a police escort to get out of town! He continued to drive semi throughout his life, but his heart was with the land. He went back to farming full-time shortly before his marriage to Raylene on October 11, 1986. Gary was proud to be a third generation farmer, and in 2010, we were presented with the Alberta Century Farm & Ranch Award by the then Premier, Ed Stelmach. Gary liked to stay busy, whether working or volunteering, curling in the winter or golfing and camping in the summer, he was always on the go. He was a 48 year member of the Foremost Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion, during which time, he held every position at the Branch level. He even served as the elected Zone Commander, something he was very proud of. Private Interment will take place at the Foremost Cemetery. SCHEFFER, SANDRA RUTH
(nee SIMONSON)
February 15, 1947 – July 11, 2022
Peacefully on July 11, 2022, Sandra passed away in the arms of her husband Marinus (Rien) at her home in St Albert. She is lovingly remembered by her husband and children Mark Andrew and Marni Lynn, and her grandchildren, Graeme Michael, Peter Jakob and Jessi Marie, sister Norma and husband Rick, brother Robert and extended family and friends.
Sandra grew up in the community of the Highlands in Edmonton, where her parents Lawrence Simonson and Ruby Carmichael moved shortly after Sandra was born. Her happy childhood was shared with her sister Norma and brother Bob, as well as a large close-knit family of both Simonson and Carmichael cousins, aunts, and uncles. Their Highlands home was the location of many happy gatherings, dinners and celebrations.
Sandra cared immensely for Rien from the time they first met sixty-two years ago in the Highlands, and they had nearly fifty-six years of joyful and eventful marriage. She set high standards for her husband and children and happily made sure they were well looked after. When the family built a cottage on Lac St Anne Sandy was active participant in its development and construction, never afraid of working and putting her soul into it, along with the children. Sandy and Rien and Mark and Marni travelled a lot within Alberta, on camping trips and cross-country skiing outings, and got to know many of the back-country destinations in Banff. She supported Rien in all of his sometimes-dubious adventures, including starting his own business as an engineering consultant and a period when he got into marathon running. Rien was the love of her life, and he was the lucky recipient of that love. Her children and grandchildren were equally important.
Sandy was a great cook and those lucky enough to participate in her meals called her regularly for recipes, even at the latter stages of her life. She had an intuitive instinct for manners and dress and set an example for all in how to present themselves, without ever being overbearing or ostentatious. She was the one that remembered all family birthdays and celebrations and was sure to remind her husband of what was coming up in their social calendar.
She was the mainstay of her family and will be immensely missed by Rien as the most important part of his life.
The family is extremely grateful to the care team from Alberta Health Services, who went beyond the call of duty in caring for our wife and mother at home, the professional staff at the newly implemented Alberta Virtual Hospital, and especially Doctor Al Alous, her personal physician.
Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
A celebration of life will be held on August 19 at 2:00 p.m. at the Highlands Golf Club. All are invited.
