He leaves one brother Ivan Dalen (Suzan Shaefer); his nephew Garth (Shelley) Glass and their children: Adrian with his child Arlo (his mother Eiko); Kent (Katie) with their children Jack and Ellen; Jensine (Michael) with their children, Jasa, Jude and River; Anisa and Joy. Also Larry’s niece Valerie (Robert) Knowlden and their children Jesse (Carys), and Julia; his nephew Danny (Gaylene) Dalen and their children Ethan and Bryce; niece Cindy (Deryk) Tyler and their children Kale (Ally) and Chelsey (Matthew) with their daughter Willa; and best friend Wade Otterson and his children Tristan and William. He was predeceased by his parents, Julia and Arnie Dalen; one brother, Arnold (June) Dalen; his sister, Ellen Glass-Jaster and her first husband, Edwin Glass and her second husband, Oswald Jaster. The Dalen farm in Fox Valley was Larry’s world and his career. The tragic and untimely death of his father Arne when Larry was fifteen years old determined his path. He accepted his role as farmer and together with his mom and mentor Julia, carried on after Arne’s death. His older siblings were always available for critical times but ultimately Larry became the overseer of the homestead farms of his ancestors for 64 years. He never wavered. Larry stayed single and Julia remained his day to day companion until she was in her 90’s. In 2010, Larry Dalen was honoured with the Saskatchewan Century Family Farm Awards; recognizing families who had homesteaded and operated the same farm for 100 years or more. He was third generation farmer of his mom’s Selseth homestead (1910) and second generation farming the Dalen homestead (also filed in 1910). Larry did his utmost to carry things on and be a person of responsibility. The land was his life and legacy. Those who wish to pay their respects may do so at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME Tuesday evening from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday morning at the church from 10:00 a.m. – 10:55 a.m. The funeral service will be held in the St. Paul Lutheran Church (515 Sprague Way SE) on Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Ken Edel officiating.
