FREDERICK ‘FRED’ PEARS
1934 ~ 2022
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our much loved Father, Grandfather and Great- Grandfather, Fred Pears. Fred left us on Thursday, March 10, 2022, at the age of 87 at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. He was predeceased by his loving partner and wife of over 60 years, Evelyn in April of 2020. He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Dan Pears, Cathy (Dan) West and Terry (Debbie) Pears; seven grand children; numerous great-grand children; sister, Christine (Ray) Klus and brother, Gordon (Brenda) Pears. Fred was predeceased by his father, Herbert (Fred) Pears; mother, Clara; brothers, Ronnie, Ken, Stanley and Allan; and sister, Pricilla Anne in infancy. Fred was born November 22, 1934 in Mallaig, Alberta where he was raised until he left home and moved to Stonewall, Manitoba where he met Evelyn. They moved to Winnipeg to raise their family and Fred began a career as an apprentice Sheet Metal Mechanic in 1956. Later, Fred and his family moved to Calgary where Fred remained working as a sheet metal mechanic until his retirement in 1999. During his younger years you could see Fred loading up his vehicle every November to make the annual trip back to Winnipeg to go deer hunting with his close group of friends from there. He remained life long friends with them even after he couldn’t make the trip anymore. When Fred made a friend, they were usually a friend for life. This can be seen in his friendship with Ray Foley who he met in school and who he would still call up on the phone to talk. Fred enjoyed his retirement years and took up woodworking as a hobby, and became quite good at it. He built some beautiful pieces of furniture for his family. These pieces will be cherished for years to come. In 2012, Fred and Evelyn moved to Medicine Hat. They loved the smaller city and made some good friends here as well. After Evelyn’s death in 2020, Fred found it hard without her and moved into Chinook Village where he remained until his passing. We would like to thank the staff on 2 North in the Medicine Hat Hospital for the care and comfort they provided Fred in his final days. A time of visitation will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Tuesday, March 15, 2022, between 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. (Condolences may be expressed by visiting our website at

and a cure was not to be.
He wrapped you in his loving arms
and whispered, “come to me”.
You suffered much in silence,
your spirit did not bend,
you faced your pain with courage
until the very end.
You tried so hard to stay with us,
your fight was all in vain,
God took you to his loving home

A golden heart stopped beating,
two working hands at rest,
God broke our hearts to prove to us
He only takes the best.”
