CLEGG, AARON DAVID
It is with deep sorrow that the family of Aaron Clegg announces his passing at the Red Deer Hospice on Feb. 16, 2022 with his wife Erin by his side.
Aaron was born in Medicine Hat on November 30, 1972 to Jim and Mary Clegg. He graduated from McCoy High School in 1990 and went on to study Social Work at Red Deer College. He began his working career helping youth through Heritage Family Services then on to AADAC. He had a heart for people and this lead him to go back to school to earn his Master's in Psychology. He then worked with CSC at Bowden Institution and on to the Red Deer Remand Centre as the psychologist, in addition to operating a private practice.
Aaron so loved the outdoors; camping, hiking, fishing, all activities that he enjoyed sharing with his family and friends. The four of them would spend time in the mountains, enjoying family vacations as they explored all over Alberta and BC, travelling to Cuba, Hawaii, Disneyland and the Cook Islands. Aaron shared his love of healthy recreational activities with Nick and Max including cycling, hiking, cross country skiing and the importance of spending quality time together. Even while struggling with Acute Myeloid Leukemia, Aaron was dedicated to going to the gym. His doctors and nurses always marvelled at his desire to work out while other patients had to be encouraged to even get out of bed! We are certain this tenacious attitude allowed him to stay around longer with us.
Aaron spent the last two years actively living so that he could spend the most quality time that he could with his wife and two sons. He is survived by Erin, his wife of 19 years, sons Nicholas and Max, his parents Jim and Mary Clegg, his sister Michelle (Jim) Cole and their children Elizabeth and Anthony along with numerous Aunts, Uncles and cousins. He is also survived by Erin's parent's, Ken and Maxine Haggarty, her siblings, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Red Deer Hospice, Unit 32, Home Care, the Cancer Clinics and Emergency. With a special thank you to Dr. Philpott, Dr. Prajpati and Dr. Geddes for their care and guidance along this journey.
A funeral mass will be held for Aaron at St. Mary's Catholic Church (6 McMillan Ave Red Deer) on Thursday, February 24 at 11:00am. For those unable to attend the funeral, the service will be live-streamed and viewable on the St. Mary's Catholic Church Facebook page. An internment will take place immediately after the funeral as he will be laid to rest in the Ste. Anne of the Prairies cemetery in Trochu.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that a donation be made in Aaron's name to the Red Deer Hospice Society (99 Arnot Ave, Red Deer AB T4R 3S6).
