1940 ~ JOAN LEONOVICH ~ 2021

Joan Elizabeth Leonovich of Medicine Hat, passed away on Saturday, December 18th, 2021 at the age of 81 years. Joan leaves to cherish her memory her husband, John Leonovich; children, Richard (Rick) Leonovich, Yvonne (Richard) Hogan and Victoria “Vicki” (Don) Boone; grandchildren, Everett (Claire) Lyonheart, Emily Betemps, Thane Hogan, Jolyene Hogan, Grace Hogan and Anesia Boone; brother, Walter Holt; sister, Ruth (Cecil) Riggan; brother-in-law, Roy (Hilda) Leonovich; sisters-in-law, Ruby Schoemaker and Inez Holt; brother-in-law, Bill Hutchison; special friends, Brian Goodman and Robert Goodman; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Joan was predeceased by her parents, Fredrick and Elizabeth Holt; daughter, Elizabeth Teresa in infancy; grandson, Ryan in infancy; brother, Art Holt; brother-in-law, Neil Schoemaker; sister-in-law, Diane Hutchison; mother-in-law, Ottilia Leonovich; honourary grandma, Anne Simaluk; and special friend, Lucille Goodman and her sons, Scott, Keith and Christopher Goodman. Joan’s greatest love was her husband, John of 61 years and her family. Howard Andrew Widmer passed away on Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at the age of 78 years, beloved husband of Darlene Widmer of Medicine Hat. He also leaves to cherish his memory three children, Deanna (Raymond) Ries, Colleen (Derek) Herter, Kerry (Kim) Widmer; three grandchildren, Brett (Tiffany) Ries, Kyle Herter (Rachel Hurley) and Mitchell Herter; two great grandchildren Lily Ries and Cooper Ries; one brother Lynn Widmer as well as several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. 1951 ~ GLENN IRWIN ~ 2021

Glenn Ross Irwin of Redcliff, passed away on Monday, December 20th, 2021 at the age of 70 years after a long courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Glenn leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 33 years, Carolyn; stepdaughter, Tracy Balaneski (Kevin); grandchildren, Kylee, Kiara, Karissa and Kolton; sister, Myrna Owens (Kent); and step sister, Charmaine Williams; special cousin, Arlene Banerd; sisters-in-law, Vivian Tomlenovich, Gwen Beatty (Tom), Eunice Andrews (Jim Morton) and numerous nieces and nephews. Glenn was predeceased by his parents, Tom and Margaret Irwin. Glenn was employed with Canada Post for 25 years. After retiring he spent his winters enjoying life in California. He was very active in many sports throughout his life and was always conscientious about staying in good shape. Glenn was well known for his thorough knowledge in gardening as many could see from his beautiful garden he tended to each summer. He also helped many with their gardening questions. He was an avid golfer, and a member of the Riverview Golf Club in Redcliff, shooting a 75 in one of his last rounds this season. Glenn is now up in heaven teaching the angels his dance moves. A special thank you to Dr. Mohanraj who was with Glenn throughout his journey from the beginning to end. Also special thanks to the staff at St. Joseph’s Home for their care and compassion. ARMANDE MARIE ALICE GOULET

November 13, 1927 ~ December 21, 2021

 

It is with sadness that the family of Armande Goulet (nee Beaudoin) announces her passing in Medicine Hat on Tuesday, December 21, 2021, at the age of 94 years. Armande was born in Gravelbourg, SK., on November 13, 1927. She was the youngest of five children. Armande worked as the supervisor of the Shaunavon Telephone Exchange, where she met her husband, Albert Goulet. They were married in Dollard, SK., on February 25, 1954 and shared 53 years of marriage. Together they raised three children, living first in Dollard and later in Shaunavon before retiring to Medicine Hat. Armande led a busy life until she suffered a stroke in 2017. She learned how to do Brazilian embroidery in Medicine Hat and made many beautiful pieces. Armande was known to help her neighbours and enjoyed doing so whenever and however she could. Her greatest pleasure was to be with her family, spending time with them and baking all their favourite things. Her grandchildren and great- grandchildren were a great source of joy to her. She was predeceased by her husband, Albert as well as her grandson, Ian Goulet. She will be forever remembered and loved by her three children: Richard (Bev), Adele (Wade) and Denis (Heather) as well as two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren: Ryan (Olga) and their sons, Caleb and Devin, and Aaron (Leslie) and their children, Owen and Julie.

BARB HOWIE

August 22, 1942 ~ December 20, 2021

 

Barbara Ann Howie passed away peacefully at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Monday, December 20, 2021, at the age of 79 years. She will be deeply missed by her many friends as well as her three daughters, Andrea Howie (John Lynn) of Canmore and their daughter, Michaela (fiancé, Joel), Pam (Lance) Knodel of Medicine Hat and their son, Nathan and Angie (Greg) Johnson of Calgary and their children, Jaime and Michael. Barb also leaves three siblings, Yvonne (Kevin) Healey of Elmvale, Judy Brownlee (Karl Ritter) of Calgary and Mike (Charlene) Genereaux of Madoc, ON. as well as many nieces and nephews whom Barb loved and they all loved their Aunt Barb. She was predeceased by three siblings, Denise (Bob) McKenzie of Belleville, ON., David (Nancy) Genereaux of Madoc, ON., and Larry Genereaux of Madoc, ON. Barb was born in Madoc, Ontario on August 22, 1942. She spent a lot of time there causing mischief with her brothers and sisters and cousin, Jack. Eventually she moved to Belleville and began her career as a dental assistant. Before long, Barb had three girls to raise and became a stay at home mom. She had her hands full with the very active trio. They moved out west to BC in 1971, where Barb spent a lot of time volunteering at various centres and was well recognized for her special abilities. After short stops in northern Alberta, the family put down roots in Medicine Hat. The house on 4th Street was a haven for all of the girls’ friends. Barb was like a second mom to so many young people and her door was always open for visitors. Barb found a full time job dental assisting for Dr. Garden whom she adored. In her typical fashion, she made many a nervous patient feel at ease; often holding their hand and reassuring them. At 63, she retired and resumed the activities that she loved and defined her latter years. Aquasize at the Y, solving more crossword puzzles than humanly possible, baking cookies and her famous pies and cooking Sunday suppers for her kids. She loved cheering for her grandkids, at their sports… sometimes a bit too loud! She also had a special place in her heart for her canine “grandchild”, Max. Barb and her best friend, Susan, spent so much time together and enjoyed their trips to Mexico immensely. Susan has been an absolute blessing to Barb and her family loves her for that. They must now say goodbye to an unbelievable person that brightened up the day of every person she met. Barb’s smile and giggling laughter warmed the hearts of so many. That is how she will be remembered and somewhere up above she is making an even better place for those around her. Barb’s final wishes were for her to be remembered with a celebration of her life and her family will honour her wishes in the near future. COR KRAMER

1935 – 2021

 

Cornelis “Cor” Kramer passed away peacefully at the Bow Island Health Centre surrounded by the love of his life, Clara, and his four children on Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at the age of 86 years.

The world lost a bit of its humour and gentleness when our much loved husband and father was taken unexpectedly by a devastating stroke.

Cor was born in Waarland, Netherlands on August 12, 1935. He worked on the family farm in Holland until they immigrated to Canada in 1954. Cor quickly settled into farm life in Lethbridge and area working with his dad and brothers while earning his welding certification. At age twenty seven he moved to Woodstock, Ontario to start welding. Shortly after, he met Clara van der Meer, who became his beloved wife of 58 years. His son and daughter, Jack and Wendy soon arrived, after which Cor moved his family back to Alberta to farm in Raymond. The birth of two more daughters, Judy and Tricia followed.

In 1985 Cor bought land in Bow Island and farmed until he retired in 1996. Then he and Clara started the good life, where Cor greatly enjoyed golfing, wood turning, playing pool, making wine, gardening, and travelling. Cor loved to spend time laughing and visiting with friends and his large extended family, including his brothers and sisters: Jack, Ann (Dick), Marie (Dirk), Truce (Cor Appel), Hank (Henny), Sam (Effie), Tina (Dick), John (Wiena), Pete (Lavone), Elly (Harm) and Tony (Margaret). He was predeceased by his parents Simon and Marie, and his siblings Jack, Marie, Hank, Sam and Tina; and his in-laws: Dick, Dirk, Cor Appel, Henny, Effie and Harm.

He will be deeply missed by his beloved wife, Clara, and children: Jack Kramer (Nicola Quigley), Wendy Hilsendeger (Steve), Judy Helfrich (Mike) and Tricia Kramer (Malcolm Matthews); his grandchildren: LeAnna, Nikki, Emily, Tyler, Luke, Conor and Tabby; and great grandchildren Kaidence, Bentley and Tanner; along with Christine, Hailey, Graham, Walker and Mavrik, who he considered his own grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 – 48 Avenue, Taber on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 between 7:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M.
