John Charles Muirhead of Cypress Country, beloved husband and dear friend of Fern for 67 years, passed away on Saturday, December 4th, 2021 at the age of 88 years. Father of Deb (Bryan) Kolb of Fernie, BC; proud grandfather of Seana, Graeme Lees (Ashley), Kostie, Pamela, Andrew and Matthew Muirhead; great grandchildren, Khloe and Felix of New Westminister, BC, Jackson and Lincoln of Calgary, AB; sister, Delores Dechka of Brandon,MB and her family . He attended schools in the Douglas area before going on to obtain a BSC from the University of Manitoba by the age of 19, achieving a mark of 100 in chemistry in the final year earning the U of M’s Chemistry medal. John and Fern were married following graduation in 1952. From university, he worked in the oil exploration field in several points in Alberta before heading to Ottawa to a career with the Defence Research Board at Shirley Bay. During the 5 years spent in Ottawa, Deb and Murray were born. With deep roots in Western Canada and a desire to return to the west, a transfer to Suffield and Ralston was made in 1957. During the 6 years in Ralston, son Eric was born and in 1963 the family moved to Crescent Heights, residing on 13th Street NE until 1982 when John and Fern moved to a country residence south of Dunmore. John retired in 1988 after 35 years with DRB and DRES. John enjoyed the outdoors and hiking, curled for many years both in Ralston and Medicine Hat, read extensively, enjoyed crossword puzzles (the more challenging the better!), and with the arrival of computers, compiled a large and detailed Muirhead family history. He and Fern made several trips to Northern Ireland to explore John’s Irish roots. He enjoyed time spent with family and especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren grow to adulthood. A gentle, compassionate man with a quiet sense of humor who will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held at a later date. A week ago today, Colin Butterfield’s family gathered at Cook’s to honour his memory. The tributes that were spoken by his family were heartfelt; thanking everyone who played a special part in Colin’s life… especially his 12th Street Group Home family.

So go and run free with the angels

Dance around the golden clouds

For the Lord has chosen you to be with him

And we should feel nothing but proud

JESSIE ‘HELEN’ ISAAC

April 22, 1942 ~ December 4, 2021

It is with a heavy heart that the family of Jessie ‘Helen’ Isaac announce her passing on Saturday, December 4, 2021, at the age of 79 years. She is survived by her beloved partner, Bill Torok; children, Angela Isaac (Shawn) and Lori Isaac (David); grandchildren, Ayda, Isabella, Kai and Cameron and sisters, Kathleen Cassata and Wilma Reid (Philip). She was predeceased by her beloved parents, William and Annabelle Kyle; brother-in-law Russell Cassata, and nephew Layton Reid. Helen was born in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, where she graduated from Pictou Rural High School and attended nursing school at the Aberdeen Hospital. She then moved to Medicine Hat where she worked at the MHRH in Psychiatry. When her arthritis made it too difficult to nurse, Helen became a Day Home provider and was a second granny and a very special person to many of her children and their families. Early years, Helen loved playing cribbage with her dad, helping her mom in the kitchen at mealtime, picking wild berries in the yard of their family home and going to Melmerby Beach and Park Falls with her family. She also took up curling and bowling. Following in her mom’s footsteps and as young woman, Helen became a member (and served as past Noble Grand) of Wildey Rebekah Lodge in Medicine Hat. Card games with friends, monthly lunch dates with the ‘girls,’ time spent with family whether preparing for family suppers, enjoying a glass of wine, visiting the Pender’s Farm, or just quality time with her grandchildren were also highlights in her life. Bill and Helen were friends since 1969 and partners since 2004. Together they enjoyed gardening, cooking, canning/making pickles, watching curling & baseball (especially the Toronto Blue Jays), camping, time spent at the cabin and many good times with amazing friends. Every night before bed, Bill would say to Helen “one more hug and one more kiss’… they were truly soul mates. Helen was always giving to others and expected nothing in return. Her memory will be forever cherished in the hearts of her family and friends. She will be deeply missed and forever loved! A Celebration of Helen’s life will take place at a later time. Where there is love, there is peace,

Where there is peace, there is God.’

“I HAVE WALKED THROUGH THE DAY AND THROUGH THE NIGHTS,

IN SUNSHINE AND IN STORM, AND ALWAYS…ALWAYS,

THERE IS THE WONDROUS BEAUTY OF GOD”

A note from her great niece, Tracy:

As I’ve spent the past few years helping auntie Laura, I was able to really get to know her better. She was a very strong and independent woman. Still flying across the country by herself, to airforce reunions at the age of 89. Over the past year, giving up her independence was very hard on her and she was not afraid to let me know how frustrated she was. Auntie had a life well lived and full of adventure, and I am so thankful to have spent these last few years getting to know her better. In honour of Laura, call a relative or friend who may be alone, pop in on someone with a coffee, or just do something nice to make someone elses day better. Above all, just be kind. Thank you so much to friends and family who reached out to auntie and I this past year. And special thank you to Dr. Jonker and the wonderful staff at the Good Samaritan’s for helping Laura live out her days with dignity and respect. Rest easy auntie, you will never be forgotten. Cremation has taken place and as per her wishes there will not be a funeral service. (Condolences may be expressed by visiting http://www.cooksouthland.com). Honoured to serve the family is
