It is with heavy hearts the Goring family announces the sudden passing of Charles “Chucky” Ashley Goring, on November 20, 2021, at the age of 54 years. It is with profound sadness that the family of Benedict “Ben” Rudolf Lockert, beloved husband of the late Sheilagh Lockert, announce his peaceful passing at St. Joseph’s Home – Carmel Hospice, in Medicine Hat, on Monday, November 29, 2021, at the age of 92 years, our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend. Left to cherish and honour Ben’s memory are his two sons, Pat (Tanis), Greg (Wendy); daughter, Shannon (Steve ) English; six grandsons, Spencer (Alexa), Jamin (Alison), Cody (Breanna), Josh (Tori), Sean (Melissa), and Jason; one great-grandson, Liam; sisters-in-law, Virginia Lockert, Gayle Olson and Loretta (Hugh) Hermary as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Ben was predeceased by his parents Jacob and Eleanora; his loving wife of 52 years, Sheilagh; an infant son, Sean; daughter-in-law, Suzanne; one sister and four brothers. Ben was born on June 23, 1929, at the home farm in Vibank, SK. He attended St. Franciscus and the Elsas High School in Vibank where he graduated from grade 12. In 1950 and 1951, he attended Teacher’s College in Moose Jaw. Upon graduation, Ben taught at Grassington and Manybones schools and then Rockglen Elementary where he was very active with the Kinsmen Club and the hardball league in the area. In 1956, Ben moved to Moose Jaw where he worked at Investors Syndicate and Mannings Biscuits “Dad’s cookies”. This is where he met his future bride, Sheilagh McGrath. Ben moved to Regina and worked with Delta Finance Company. He rejoined the teaching profession and taught at Ursaline High School. Ben and Sheilagh were married on April 3, 1961, at Holy Rosary Cathedral in Regina. He continued to teach at Ursaline until 1963 when he moved to Medicine Hat where he taught at St. Mary’s Jr. High until his retirement in 1990. During his teaching career he coached numerous teams in a variety of sports. After teaching Ben enjoyed his retirement playing slow pitch for the Senior Provincial team, golfing, travelling, playing pool, and was an avid fan of the Saskatchewan Roughriders, the Medicine Hat Tigers and the Blue Jays. Above all else, Ben was a family man and a huge supporter of his grandsons and all their activities. The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital, 5 West and St. Joseph’s Home – Carmel Hospice for their compassion and care extended to Ben. BRIAN LATIMER

 

1943-2021

 

Brian Lawrence Latimer of Medicine Hat, husband to Millie Latimer, passed away in Medicine Hat on Monday, November 29, 2021, at the age of 78 years. He leaves behind his two children, Brad and Shannon; two fantastic grandkids, Talyn and Braden; three brothers, Wayne, Garth and Dale as well as his sister, Faye Douglas. He was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Ruth Latimer. Brian was born on October 30, 1943, in Oxbow Saskatchewan and married Millie on January 11, 1969. He worked with many great people in the oil and gas industry over the years and continued working at Eskimo, Dresser/ Titan services with his last 18 years being self-employed. He retired in 1997, at the age of 54. Brian leaves behind some great friends and golfing buddies, who he thoroughly enjoyed driving nuts, griping his way around a typical 77 at his second home, the Medicine Hat Golf and Country Club. There he made many life-long friends including the staff who were like family to him. He was always a “family first” type of guy but on the course, he enjoyed cleaning his son out, repeatedly, when they played. Brian truly loved taking care of everyone and saying he thought the world of his daughter, Shannon, would be an understatement, their bond was something to envy. Having grandkids gave a new purpose to his retirement; between their swimming lessons, bike riding, ice skating, snow skiing, rodeos and taking them on memorable trips to Phoenix and Vegas; he experienced some of the best moments he ever had. Brian and Millie had piles of adventures in the desert as well, going from course to course. They enjoyed the golf, the time with their friends and those hard-fought grudge matches they played against one another for “pride.” He often called Millie a saint for not only keeping many of these outcomes quiet, but for her ability to go with his spontaneity that he so liked to follow; his respect and love for Millie never wavered. He was truly old school, fiercely loyal and unwavering in his ability to call it like he saw it. Brian dearly missed his friends that left us too soon and always reminisced about their old times much like we will do with ‘Pops.’ Not enough can be said for the great care and compassion the entire family received from the Palliative Care nurses and our friends at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel. COLIN BUTTERFIELD

1948 ~ 2021

 

Colin Arthur Butterfield passed away at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Monday, November 29, 2021, at the age of 72 years. Colin’s memory will live on in the hearts of his three children: Michelle (Ryan) Robinson and their daughter, Kayla; Scott (Denise) Butterfield and their children, Clara and Rayne; Randy (Karla) Butterfield and their children, Brea and Brady and the mother of his children, Sheila (Don) McLennan. He will also be remembered by his siblings, Hazel (Terry) McMillan, Beverly Sample, Bob Butterfield, Don (Marion) Butterfield and Valerie Butterfield as well as his second family at the Redi Group Home, Gord, Maryanne, Perry, Linda and Nathan and the loving caregivers throughout the years. Colin was predeceased by his parents, George and Mabel Butterfield. Colin grew up in MacGregor, MB., and later moved to Thompson, MB., where he raised his three children and worked at Inco. In 1986, Colin suffered a brain aneurysm that would forever change his life. He moved to the 12th Street Group Home in Medicine Hat where he remained for more than 30 years. His favourite pastimes included playing crib, watching movies and going to Tiger games, but he especially loved watching his grandchildren play their sports. DEBORAH CARLIN

 

July 24, 1953 – November 28, 2021

 

“Mother, if tears could build a stairway and memories a lane,

I‘d walk right up to heaven and bring you home again”

 

Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend left us on Sunday, November 28, 2021, at the age of 68 years to continue her journey. Deborah “Debbie” Lee Nieman was born on July 24, 1953, in Medicine Hat, Alberta. Despite living in Calgary for more than 45 years, Debbie considered Medicine Hat home. Debbie met her future husband, Brian Carlin while he was playing for the Medicine Hat Tigers. They were happily married for 49 years. During that time, they welcomed two daughters, Tamara and Jillaine.

Debbie was an animal lover with tenderness for all creatures, particularly dogs. She treasured her furry companions, most recently her feisty pup, Dudley. Debbie was known to carry spare leashes in her purse in case a dog needed to be rescued. Chica was one such four legged friend who was saved from the streets of Mexico and brought home to a better life.

Debbie will be remembered by many as a loyal friend with a huge heart. She touched so many with her kindness, compassion, generosity and support. Beautiful and radiant, Debbie was described by many as classy, sophisticated and was always put together. She was a fantastic cook and entertainer, being a guest in her home was always a treat…she thought of every detail.

Above all, Debbie loved her family. She was very proud of her grandchildren. They brought her tremendous joy. Debbie was their biggest fan and adored attending school concerts, dance recitals and hockey games. She always held dear witnessing the births of her five grandchildren, waiting to welcome them to the world.

Remembered for her joyful laugh and love of travel, especially sunsets from her balcony in Puerto Vallarta while enjoying a margarita with her toes in the sand. Some of her fondest memories were the summertime boat cruises and dance parties, full of children’s antics and laughter. Debbie also held dear the cherished memories made over the years with her close friends “The Flamingo Sisters”.

Debbie faced her sudden diagnosis with tremendous courage and grace, rarely complaining and always making sure those she loved knew it. Debbie leaves behind her loving husband, Brian Carlin; daughters, Tamara (Brad) Isbister and Jillaine Carlin (Jason McFarlane); grandchildren, Carlin and Jorja Dezainde; Caden, Logan and Wyatt Isbister; Taylore and Shelby McFarlane; dear friend and brother, David Nieman and nephew, Stacy (Nadine) Jussila as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Debbie is reunited with her parents, Marjorie and Elmer Nieman and brothers, Larry and Allan “Bob” Nieman.

ELIZABETH McKINLEY

Beth McKinley of Medicine Hat passed away on Monday, November 29, 2021, at the age of 95 years. She leaves behind: daughters, Carol, Kathy (Pierre Beaudreau) and Barbara (Vincent Lee); grandchildren, Dan Beaudreau and Philip Beaudreau; sister, Emma (Mel Friedrick) as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Baxter; parents, Charles and Anna Orosz; brothers, John and Charles and sisters, Ann (Hank Schoorl) and Helen (Peter Schamber). Beth was born in Milk River, the eldest child of Hungarian immigrants. The family struggled and she worked hard hauling water from the well and looking after her brothers and sisters. She left home at 16 and worked at many jobs before deciding to become a teacher. Her first posting was to a one room school in Wisdom where neighbours soon introduced her to an eligible bachelor. Within a year, she and Baxter were married. They settled on the McKinley ranch where they raised their three daughters. In 1984, they retired to Medicine Hat and began a long and happy retirement. They traveled, took up bowling and doted on the neighbourhood children between visits with their own grandsons. She was active in her church. Beth loved flowers and all plants flourished under her care. She will be remembered for her kindness, independent nature and saskatoon pies.
