YOPIE KOHLMETZ

April 20, 1940 ~ October 22, 2021

It is with sadness that I, Theodore Kohlmetz, announce the passing of my beloved wife, Jacobje ‘Yopie’ Kohlmetz. She passed away at River Ridge Seniors Village in Medicine Hat on Friday, October 22, 2021, at the age of 81 years. Our Yopie was taken to the Great Beyond and her passing leaves behind a loving husband, Ted, and a daughter Christine who stood tirelessly by her until the end. Yopie also left behind a sister, Annie; a younger brother, Henry “Stormy”; a granddaughter, Natasha and her partner, Dan as well as a granddaughter, Serena and her husband, Michael. Yopie also left behind many faithful relatives and friends. Yopie and I lost our only son, Kevin Steve when he was seventeen years of age. I believe very strongly that Yopie and our Diggy Boy, Kevin, are at last able to hug each other again and have finally been reunited. Our Yopie was a remarkable and wonderful lady and our Diggy boy was and still is a remarkable young man in the Great Beyond. Our Yopie was and still is the most beautiful, intelligent, loving, loyal and compassionate human being who had many friends both human and all kinds of creatures whom she loved, still loved and who will never forget her. My Yopie had been, and still is, the best wife, friend, helpmate and partner anyone could ever hope to have and to hold. Others will remember her as a kick-ass bowler, rummy player, dancer, baker, chef and most importantly the worlds greatest mother, wife and Oma. We all, whether believers or not, will meet again and will be forever grateful for having been so lucky to have known her and her endless love. Yopie was born in the Netherlands and immigrated to Canada at the age of eleven. The first time I saw her when she was just fourteen years old, it seemed as though there was this apparition, like a vision from long ago, standing in the doorway. Yopie, the most beautiful young girl I had ever seen, dressed in a white starched and ironed apron carrying a wicker basket with long blond braids and white ribbons. I was smitten and instantly fell head over heels in love. It was the beginning of a very long love story and I’m counting on being able to embrace her and our Diggy Boy again. Yopie and I were married for 63 years and whenever I end up thinking of those happy times, which I will never forget, my eyes instantly tear up and I end up totally ‘losing it.’ We will neverless have our Yopie deep in our hearts for a very long time, certainly until we all meet again. Auf ein baldiges Wiedersehen, mein Schatz. A private family time of remembrance will be held. (Condolences may be expressed by visiting our website at http://www.cooksouthland.com).
