1953 ~ MARLENE GUNDERSON ~ 2021
Marlene Dawn Gunderson of Medicine Hat, beloved wife of the late Patrick Gunderson, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, October 5th, 2021 at the age of 68 years. Marlene leaves to cherish her memory her sons, Edward (Tamara), Jason (Rocel), and Thomas (Lee); grandchildren, Quinn, Abigayle, Jayna, Mason, and Stanley; sisters, Connie Fisher, Janet Bradley, and LeeAnne Drescher; sister-in-law, Sheila; as well as many extended family and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Patrick, her parents, Hugo and Jean Fregin and her brother, Harry. Marlene loved taking her dog, Buddy, for daily walks, visiting Connie and Anne and spending time with her grandchildren. In her younger years, she was a “Hockey Mom”, a camper, and a great protector. She always welcomed her family and friends with open arms and that included serving them pancake breakfasts. She looked forward to holidays when she was able to get the family together to celebrate. She will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her. David Dean Wiest of Redcliff, Alberta passed away on Monday, October 4, 2021 at the age of 59 years. He was predeceased by his parents Doreen and Don Wiest and one brother Robert. Joanne L. Phillion (nee Aaker), passed away peacefully at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Wednesday, October 7, 2021, at the age of 69 years. Joanne was born on June 20, 1952, and spent her childhood and youth in Scratoga Park with her family. She was a loving mother and Nanna. Everyone who knew Joanne, knew her love of cooking, baking and bingo. On the weekends you could find Joanne watching her grandson, Blaiden at his hockey games. She loved every second spent with her family and grandchildren. Joanne will be lovingly remembered in the hearts of her son, Dellon (Candace); daughter, Valina; grandchildren, Blaiden, Faith, Grace and Cade; brother, Henry (Pat) Aaker as well as all those who knew and loved her. She was predeceased by her mother, Phyllis in 2001; father, Henry in 2012 and her brother, Butch in 2018. A Celebration of Joanne’s life will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat, on Tuesday, October 12, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. with Life Celebrant Gerry Getz officiating. MARY REMBOWSKI
March 26, 1928 ~ October 7, 2021
Mrs. Mary Rembowski, beloved wife of the late Mr. Frank Rembowski, passed away peacefully at River Ridge Seniors Village in Medicine Hat, on Thursday, October 7, 2021, at the age of 93 years. Mary’s memory will forever be cherished by her family; daughter, Shirley Lapp (Rod Turnbull) and son, Dale (Michelle) Rembowski; grandchildren, Suzan Lapp (Mike Piazza), Shane Lapp, Carisa (Jordan) Wilson, Chayse (Kristina) Rembowski; great-grandchild; Walker Wilson; Michelle’s children, Michael, Mackenzie (Karissa), Morgan and Matt as well as numerous sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Along with her husband of 62 years, Frank, Mary was predeceased by her parents, Jennie and Andrew Chebuk; sisters, Ann and Katie as well as her brothers, Bill, Mike, George and John. Mary was born in Wasel, AB., on March 26, 1928. She met Frank at her uncles logging camp and they were married on June 23, 1951, in Edmonton. They lived in many places throughout Alberta and Saskatchewan, settling down in Medicine Hat in 1959. Mary worked at Eaton’s as well as in the restaurant they owned.  In 1971, they moved to the country where Mary enjoyed her cows, goats, sheep and gardening. This gave her grandchildren many cherished memories and opportunities to learn about farm life. Mary was a member of the Medicine Hat Oil Wives and was a long-time member of the Ladies Eagles, where she traveled to many different locations; the furthest being Buffalo, New York with her daughter. Mary was known for her love of cards, bingo, sense of humour as well as her Ukrainian dishes. She will be remembered by all for her beautiful smile. The family would like to recognize and thank the staff at River Ridge on the Expressions Wing for taking such good care of Mary for the last couple of years, great job. A family gathering celebrating Mary’s life will be held at Prairie View Cemetery on Friday, October 15, 2021, at 11:00 a.m., with Life Celebrant Gerry Getz officiating.
